yorubadelta: bro's you are so correct. when i first arrived here the Nigerians kept telling me and my wife was that to be successful you had to drive a cab as a man and be a certified nursing assistant as a woman. I tried that crap and found it was not for me. I had to break away from Nigerians and their set minds and norms. In fact i avoid Nigerians abroad like the plague. They will definitely hold you back. I am very successful in my chosen field and my wife is a well sort after makeup artist. The good thing about america is if you can imagine it, then you can achieve. No matter what it is. They have the enabling environment to make your dreams come true. The OP is saying that paying taxes and paying rent is a negative. What a mentality. So it is better to squat with friends and live with no electricity than actually having it. Nigerians. 8 Likes |

tai2:All of these things and more, are over there. Even fufu and palm wine. Yes, they are there, but they could be very expensive. The major problem be say, Oyibo no dey play. If you use Naija mentality go there, na there the wahala go start. If you breath one kind, police go come carry you, or at least, ask you some questions. But for Naija, you fit naked sef dey waka with your 'thing' anyhow in front of Aso Rock, with your three kids well dressed, and nothing go happen. Naija is a joke. But oyibo? You might want to think again. This is the key to surviving in white man's land: CAUTION! 8 Likes 3 Shares |

am living in austria which is one of the best place to live in the world not just in europe.its standard of living and happiness of the people is in the first ten best countries in the world and america is not even in this top ten, mostly are european countries.but what op said is the perfect truth.you can only enjoy any place in the world if you have money.95% of nigerians while come back home if you offer then good money to start a life.when i said good money don`t ever think of millions of dollars.just think of 10% of what you was thinking you could make in europe now you are in nigeria before travelling.that`s how bad it is.if you have never spent at least 3 months abroad, never ever in your life disagree with anyone living over there when he or she try to explain to you how hard it is.my father use to say before when i was a kid that he dont came to onitsha to watch electric poles.then i was a kid and i used to laugh and wonder why he always use this word even when his one of the most successful person in his branch of buisness and our village is just 40 mins away from onitsha.but now i understand it every well without anyone explaining it to me.infact those beautiful roads you see, there are cameras in it which will take your photo if you over speed in any given speed limit and you will pay for that.dont think i will not because you most.infact if you refused to pay it,they will take it from your monthly salary with penalty also.and this is when you are still saying that the money your earning is not still enough to save.just live this story for another day coz i know that you will never understand because i was also thinking so. kamez: |

Bollinger: Don't mind them Sir, here in the UK they think being successful is to hussle the gov for a council flat and be collecting benefits.. that's why so many of them wanna die on top the matter of ILR/Citizenship. Some Nigerians here are so lazy and have one kind of mentality that keeps them living in poverty. Can you imagine them advising you to drive cab.. and your woman should be cleaning bumbum for the rest of her life? Smh. No wonder most them will never progress. I thank God for you and your wife's life. I'm not a "bros" btw .. haha 6 Likes |

My pity is reserved for Nigerians who look up a random country on the Internet, hear that school fees is cheap or that their women are beautiful and then start looking for how to go there without understanding that the wrong move can lead to serious problems they might not recover from. Go to Obodo Oyibo with money and a plan to return because if not, hmm, life is tough o. U.S, Canada, Australia, New Zealand are much easier than the 100 or more countries Nigerians carry themselves to in the name of going abroad to make it. A lot of people posting here have seen the softer better side of obodo oyibo probably because they went well-armed financially or otherwise. What will you say of people languishing in 100 or so other countries in the name of "I want to travel". That America offers its success stories does not mean there are no Nigerians suffering there because they entered without a proper plan or the right migration status. People are saying there are jobs in the United Kingdom for legal residents. Yes of course. But how many people got such permits legitimately asides from the professionals went there on a work permit without using one dagbo means - arrangee marriage and otherwise to secure their residence and status? And does it work for everybody especially these days? Yet people will be here talking as if the bulk of them followed the rules and were 100% truthful on their visa applications before they got to remain behind in the U.K and elsewhere. Yes, there are exceptions but the Nigerian norm is to enter with one excuse and then find a means to stay behind using other means and a lot of less fortunate people make the mistake of following these routes without the backing that others have or the timing. Claiming asylum might have worked in the 90's it does not work like that in 2016. My advise is for people seeking to use illegal means to go abroad at all costs to consider their decisions because landing on foreign shores is not the final part of the struggle. If you fail to plan you might end up worse than you started and have to do dirty deeds to survive. 4 Likes |

Op was right, I had ever told an Ethopian Tax Driver in DC that I am too old to go live in the US. He agreed and conclude with the words here is " it the ladies, the kids, the dog before us (men)". If Nigeria sorts out Electricity we have no need to go anywhere. If one gets to the level of Bank Manager her and is thinking of starting over in obodo oyibo then there is a problem. RaptorX: Pls don't misquote me, read the entirety of my comment. I never said someone who's "fresh" from Nigeria. Rather I said after earning an associate degree within 2-3yrs or bachelors within 4yrs or less, it all depends on your prior level of education and the course you studied in Nigeria. It is a 'catch-22' you can't sit comfortable at home watching The Kardashian Show and expect to make this kind of money, something has got to give. If you read my comment thoroughly, you will note that I said you must be hardworking and willing to work several overtime hours. Everyone will pave their own path in life, however, if you are a determined Nigerian coming to the U.S with a green card and graduated secondary school or university in Nigeria already, I can direct you towards a career path that will make you a minimum of $200,000 a year if you achieve the following (1) You complete your associate degree in 2yrs. (2) Upon landing a job, you are determined to work several overtime hours. It's like many things in life, if you put in just a little more work or effort you can improve your current situation. Moreover, many employers offer tuition reimbursements for employees trying to further their education in their field of work. While working with your associate, you may decide to go further to earn your bachelors/ masters or masters/doctorate all at the expense of your employer. You need not get stuck in student loan debt like many Nigerians I know. I know of folks who took huge sums of student loans to study accounting or media arts etc but can't find a decent paying job upon graduation. This may not be the case for all, but the point is, you should study a course that's in high demand, make money and then pursue your passion. If u r too passionate for your current field of study, pls stick to it. And u r wrong in saying a vast majority of Nigerians are not 6 figure earners, according to the U.S Census Bureau, Nigerians have the highest number of doctors among all immigrant groups including Indians. Don't underestimate your people. 3 Likes |

I wonder where people get all this from. I have been here for 19yrs came here for my university when I was younger and I have seen myself rise to the top not where I want to be yet but still going and same goes for my other school mates i met from nig. The only ones I see stagnant are the lazy and unserious ones. The mortgage part is what got me. The reason the UK does this is to help the country grow to help people that can't afford a huge lump sum climb on the property ladder. What does the govt back home do for our youth? Here kids as young as 21 can get a mortgage if they have a good source of income . Although due to the recession this has become a but tough for those on low income because now u need about 10 to 20 percent deposit which in some cases parents and friends chip in. I see it as helping u to be independent unlike still living with ur parents at 30. Mix with the right people that's my only advise cos people think because they have been here for centuries they know it all. Ask God to guide you and you can never fail. 5 Likes |

Setting up very well in Naija and visiting obodo oyibo occasionally for business and holiday is better.Naija has so many issues, but the issues are manageabe, and we crack jokes out of them...But in Obodo Oyibo, any small crisis ,the whole country crumbles, take Greece as an example, the structures and serene environment and all this ,just some mismanagements by the government and the country is almost gone! 2 Likes |

yorubadelta:Where are d Jobs in UK? 99% of my frnds who did their masters in d UK had to come back after completion cos they couldn't get a professional job which is d only basis for which u could b offered a chance to change ur student visa that includes a working permit to resident status...menial jobs might be available but that can't give u d chance to stay after stuies..and for every professional job a foreigner is applying for, the policy states that foreigner must not be given a job at the expense of another qualified UK citizen..in other words, jobs will Only be available to a foreigner if no UK citizen is applying for dat same job..with 9% rise in unemployment rate in UK,professional and skilled Jobs are increasingly more difficult to get....so when u say jobs boku for UK, I am quick to imply that u referring to washing of plates, cleaning of poultry farms, washing of corpses, selling in d bar and some other kind of odd jobs.. |

bigerboy200: The highlighted is exactly why they couldn't get jobs.. An average company wont wanna pay visa sponsorship fees to the government just to keep an immigrant working for them .. when they could employ other suitable candidates for free. It's sad I know, but this is why I said jobs are plenty for those who are legally here i.e. those with highly skilled visas, ILR or Citizenship. UK immigration laws are now so strict and its only gonna get worse.. but that doesn't change the fact that there are countless opportunities for decent employment.. a Nigerian graduate WITH STAY in the UK cannot be unemployed for more than 6months.. unlike in Nigeria where graduates remain without jobs for years. 5 Likes |

Nigeria bad, Nigeria bad. Yet when my fellow Nigerians here see small money, the first thing they start doing is building a house or houses back in Nigeria, because they know there is some security Nigeria offers in terms of assets. The moment the obodo oyibo dream goes bad, the hope is to run back to Nigeria and sleep in a house they don't have to pay mortgage on. Where they can spend the rest of their days idling about if they so wish. How many Professors and co who lectured abroad, retire there? All these people shouting there are jobs abroad and make it look easy. Go to Abuja and Lagos, offices are filled with returnees with multiple degrees, who are back to Nigeria for the easier life. Some simply waited to get papers and then run back to Nigeria to find career improvement with their foreign qualifications and acquired accents. Others could not find satisfactory jobs and are back home even hustling civil service jobs. Yes, people make it abroad. But it is this myth that gold awaits anyone who jumps on a plane that is the undoing of many people. 6 Likes |
