Not long, as it turns out. I should be clear: We have tail bones, not tails. Nevertheless, they are vestigial features from our evolutionary past, when we actually had tails.

Anyway, my point should have been that we're all animals, and the absence/presence of tail isn't a prerequisite for classification into the kingdom: Animalia. There are other primates, certainly anthropoids like chimps and gorillas, who have lost their tails too. If they are animals, so are we!
