Nobody betrayed each other. Reason is this: The never trusted each other. The have trust issues. The woman knew firsthand that the husband wouldn't jump so she took precautionary measures (to save her self). The man himself I believe was cajoled by the woman to follow her commit the suicide. he knows the wife wants to do away with him so he also took precautionary measures to save his head.
