"TASK FORCE 777"

In 1972, Egyptian President Anwar as-Sadat exiled more than 30,000 Soviet advisors and began moving towards peace
with Israel and closer ties with the west. Egyptian
intelligence began receiving word that groups such as the
Abu Nidal Faction and Popular Front for the Liberation of
Palestine had vowed to take violent action against Egyptian
targets and people. Because of this threat, the Egyptian
Army was tasked with creating a unit capable of counter-
terrorist and hostage rescue operations.
In 1977, Egypt's Task Force 777 was created. Initially, this
unit was staffed by 3 officers, four NCOs, and forty
operators. Soon after, they were thrust into battle
unprepared in the Libyan desert. They had no order of
battle, no experience and little organization.
Then, in 1978 they were dispatched to assault an airplane
hijacked by the PFLP ( Popular Front for the Liberation of
Palestine) and flown to Cyprus. Having only an hour to plan
while in the air they were unprepared. Then, the Egyptian
Ministry of Defense neglected to inform the Cyprus
authorities of TF 777's imminent arrival. The local police and
Guard units thought the assaulting commandos were
terrorist reinforcements and took TF 777 under fire. An 80
minute firefight that cost the lives of 15 777 operators and
several Cyprots ensued.
TF 777's most notorious operation though, was the botched
rescue attempt at Malta. Palestine Radicals, angered over
Egypt's failure to protect the fleeing Achille Lauro terrorists,
seized Egyptair flight 648 ( ironically, the same airplane that
had been used to transport the Achille Lauro terrorists out
of Egypt ) and flew it to Luga Int. Airport in Malta. This time,
Egypt made sure that the foreign government new TF 777
was coming.
The members of TF 777 however, made several errors. First, they failed to perform any surveillance of the ground
situation. Second, they failed to debrief hostages that had
survived a botched execution attempt. Third, they didn't
study blueprints of the Boeing 737. Fourth, they did not have stun grenades. Lastly, TF 777 operators elected to blow a hole in the roof to gain entry to the 737.
In order to stun the terrorists and gain time for operators to enter through the hole in the roof, the explosive charge was increased beyond recommended levels. The blast was so powerful SIX rows of seats were knocked loose and nearly twenty passengers were killed. Then members who entered though the doors began throwing smoke grenades and firing indiscriminately. Snipers positioned on top of rescue vehicles began firing at fleeing civilians. In all, the botched operation killed 57 hostages.
Understandably, Unit 777 has kept a low profile since this
incident. They have been involved in Egypt's civil war against the "Brotherhood" and have lost several operators in this conflict. Because of the secrecy now surronding the unit, the exact weaponry used today is not known. However, because of close contact with the US military, who supplies much of their trainig, it is reasonable to assume they are using much of the same weapons US teams use.
Force 777 is based near Cairo with a fleet of Mi-8 and
Westland command helicopters ready for immediate
deployment 24 hours a day. They have recieved training
from the American SFOD-Delta and SEAL Team 6 units
( Before ST 6 was shut down ) as well as from France's GIGN
and possibly Germany's GSG-9.

Below are few pictures of the "task 777" special force !

Uhmmm.....those pics look like Iraqi Army Elite Golden Brigade (Iraqi Army Special Forces).

Nigerien army kills 30 Boko Haram militants inside Nigeria

Nigerien army has killed no fewer than 30 suspected Boko Haram fighters in an operation to flush out militants in border villages inside Nigeria.

The hunt for the insurgents on Thursday came a day after armed men believed to be Boko Haram fighters killed no fewer than 12 villagers in Niger.

“Our defence forces who are engaged in the operation inside Nigeria between the towns of Malam Fatori and Damasak, killed the insurgents on Thursday,” Reuters news agency quoted a security source as saying.

Boko Haram has fought a bloody six-year insurgency aimed at carving out an Islamist state in northeastern Nigeria.

It has stepped up cross-border attacks since it began calling itself the Islamic State’s “West Africa Province” after pledging allegiance to the hardline militant group in March.

@bidexii. Niger is hunting down BH in nigerian territory.Tell me this isnt true. Our army is doing the opposite, holding or garrison towns and waiting for terrorists attack is not a brilliant way to end insurgency on time. Taking the war to them is more like it. Let the paramilitaies, CJTF and mopol garrison with assistance and training provided by few army personnels. More strike force batallions should be created to hunt BH element down in every nook of the NE. Terrorists thrive on breathing space, deny them this and the ideology dies off slowly.

Av always regret saying these "BH is a blessing in disguise"!the reason for these is dat the Nigerian armed forces would not av stepped up its game in weapon/hardware procurement ? And we would think we av a force that can protect us ,meanwhile u don't use obsolete weapon to protect against insurgency. ! Nigerian armed force is procuring and they r still in the business because the need his necessitated !
On the SSG-69 against M82 sniper riffle , first of all they r not sniper riffle in the same class ! The ssG-69 is an handheld sniper riffle, soldiers use it to hunt men ! But the "BARRETT M82" sniper riffle is in the class of ;"anti-particle or anti-material sniper riffles " they use it basicly to disable armored CARS/VEHICLES//LIGHT SKINNED TANKS. And for long range kills !

The truth is that Chad most especially do hunt BH in nigeria territory but not all the time ? Air strikes they claim sometimes are false ! But in an instance where by u r chasing or tracking BH down it might end up in another countries territory, especially the border town's. The bottom line is some are true infact av seeing some videos, but there was a time when the CDS and COAS stopped CHAD from entering nigerian borders but I don't know how effective that law has being enforced !
On the issue of taking the fight to BH territory I think that has being what nigeria army as being doing since February but there r still some BH strong hold territory in sambisa forest the Nigeria army as not touched and I don't know the reason for these ?
And it is from these strong hold they carry out there hit and run strike on small villages and hamlets :which they call the guerrilla war fare style. For BH to be completely eliminated the MJTF would cooperate, share information and trust each other and I think these is what "PMB" is trying to do now I think he as visit countries like chad, niger and cameroon times without number since he assumed office .
And countries affected should have and create a rapid or quick force reaction that as airborne capabilities that can be airborne @ anytime "T" and reach the most further village affected !

The most pathetic thing about the whole debacle is that Nigeria has expended enough money to be one of the best equipped army in Africa, unfortunately most of the money ended up in private pockets.
It's quite sad!

Another reason why the outgoing service chiefs should be restrained from leaving the country. How do u fight a war on insurgency with one hand deep in the cookie jar and the other you pretend to be throwing KO blows at the insurgency. There is no way u would sucessfully throw the enemy off balance. Stealing will kill the morals of young men on the field. We need to promulgate a code of conduct in the defsec. Secrecy in procurement is not helping matters.

gbam seconded ! Instead our r using soft skinned toyota hilux that can be easily shreded by bh's 23 mm aa cannons at stand off ranges ,we were told that 40 helicopters will be purchased for use yet uptil now nothing asin we r yet to see a single hhind has arrived I mean seriously this is annoyin to say d least I hope GMB will successfully will probe and if possible recover some d funds looted by pple who ought to knw better

Also supported, if truly buhari stands for change as he claimed then those service chiefs has to be probed: we where told about the chinox helicopter and viper helicopter to be purchased from israel but unfortunately USA blocked the procurement ?
The type of choppers we are seeing that is being procured are those type that "the money of ONE chinox or viper attack helicopter can buy thRee to four. They are just weaponized . We such av helicopter that has day and night capabilities and that can fire guided munition's
Trust me they will tell u that money as being used to buy the helicopters we r seeing and brave men are on the field dying !
The NA on there on side can get new T-90s MBt/BMP-3 IFV the richest african oil country, instead we went for used T-72 and few numbers of BMP-1. With all those big money jonathan released it dosent commensurate with what we r seeing on the ground !
Nothing works in a corrupt society !

The one I hate the most is the issue of " middle men " contractors in our procurement ! No country does that a again when it comes to defense issue again, but Nigeria is still in the practice

what do u have to say about dasuki saga since u know the military very well. is it true as a retired colonel he is not entitled to military guard.in a situation where dss comes with a search order, will the military oblige or do u take order from just the military.
That pointed out , I will like to serve the military but not a military that is corrupt n can't kit or train dia soldiers very well.dasuki was caught with 5 armored vehicles which can kit 300 soldiers very well.
I also want to know if the military is still marginalising the igbo people when recruiting or do u have a quota system now.

Bidexii..nice thread. Taking off from where Sirus left off. Pls can you clear the air on some questions I have?
1. Why are troops in Adamawa always better kitted?
2. Why are there hardly any combat footages from a war of over 6 yrs? Is the army against it or what?
3. What is the estimated strenght (number) of Boko haram foot soldiers?

Deathmachine..pls add thoughts if any..Thank you.
4. Unlike the U.S campaign in Iraq, a large number of commissioned officers have been killed in this war..why the high number?
