‘Dream Team won’t fail Congo test’
By: Humphrey Njoku

Nigeria’s Under-23 team head coach, Samson Siasia has expressed confidence of victory against Congo.
The Dream Team V1 will confront the Central African side in Sunday's African Under-23 championship final round, first leg qualifier at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Siasia said he has worked on goal scoring that been the lowest ebb of the side in previous matches.
“I’m very confident that Nigerians who will troop out enmasse to see our match on Sunday will see one of the best displays ever by the Dream Team.
“As a team my boys have always created chances but our greatest problem has been to convert these chances to goals.
“We have been doing a lot of work in this critical area and if what I have seen in training of recent is anything to go by then I can assure Nigerians that these boys will make them proud by scoring enough goals against the Congolese come Sunday,” said Siasia to NFF official website, www.thenff.com.
Siasia said the non-availability of the overseas players is not a problem as the match is qualifier for a continental competition and not on the Fifa calendar.
“The clubs in Europe and elsewhere are not obliged to release these players, that was why we concentrated our efforts in building the team around home-based professionals,” said Siasia.
The team, however, has the services of former junior international striker, Umar Aminu, who was able to convince his club to release him for the game.
The winner of the two-legged encounter will qualify for the eight-team African championship tourney in Senegal that will see the topmost three teams qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Congo aim to shock Nigeria again

https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/320/cpsprodpb/9E70/production/_84306504_leroy.jpg

Congo coach Claude LeRoy wants to inflict further misery on Nigeria this weekend when he takes his side to Port Harcourt for a 2016 Olympic Games football qualifier.
The Red Devils stunned the Super Eagles 3-2 last year in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier - it was the first home Nations Cup qualifying loss suffered by Nigeria and ultimately denied them a place at the finals and a chance to defend their title.
Now, the consistently successful 67-year-old Frenchman hopes to repeat at under-23 level what he achieved at senior level and edge Congo closer to Rio de Janeiro and a first Olympics football appearance.
"We are in an identical position to last year with no one beyond Congo giving us a chance," LeRoy said during a training camp in Atlantic city Pointe-Noire ahead of the third-round first-leg tie.
"But my team have a huge chance of not only eliminating Nigeria, but qualifying for the Rio Olympics.
"There is no reason why we should fear Nigeria. Congolese football has made tremendous progress recently and we must maintain that improvement."
LeRoy can call on four of his senior squad for the third-round, first-leg clash - goalkeepers Christoffer Mafoumbi and Pavelh Ndzila, defender Sagesse Babele and striker Sylvere Ganvoula.
While Nigeria received first and second-round byes, Congo have already claimed a notable scalp in former Olympics football bronze medallists Ghana.
Both nations won 1-0 at home and Congo squeezed through after a penalty shootout at Stade Municipal in Pointe-Noire.
Nigeria boast a proud Olympics football record, winning the 1996 Atlanta gold medals after a thrilling final against Argentina and finishing runners-up to the same country at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Former star national team striker Samson Siasia coached the 'Dream Team' in China and will be in charge Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in south-east Nigeria.
He has called up Tottenham midfielder Musa Yahaya - nicknamed 'Iniesta' as his style resembles that of the Barcelona star - and Sweden-based goal-poacher Taiwo Owiniyi.
The striker got Nigeria out of jail this year in a 2015 All-Africa Games qualifier against Zambia, scoring both goals in a second-leg away triumph after the Dream Team were held at home.
South Africa, whose previous Olympics appearance was in Sydney 15 years ago, are upbeat ahead of a Harare showdown with neighboursZimbabweat Rufaro Stadium Sunday.
"This team has what it takes to go all the way to Rio," believes coach Owen da Gama. "The training camp is buzzing with excitement."
Ugandacoach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic says he is looking forward to proving Egyptian TV analysts wrong after they labelled his team a "punching bag".
The countries face off in Mediterranean city Alexandria Saturday and the stars on show should include two consistent goal scorers, Egyptian Mahmoud 'Kahraba' Abdel Moneim and Ugandan Farouk Miya.

Siasia targets 4-0 win over Congo

Nigeria U23 team coach Samson Siasia has predicted a convincing 4-0 home win over Congo on Sunday when they clash in the first leg of a CAF U23 Championship qualifier in Port Harcourt.
Nigeria U23s get Aminu boost
‘SiaOne’, as he is fondly called, said his team, fondly nicknamed Dream Team VI, are fully prepared for victory as they take another step towards featuring at next year’s Olympics in Rio Janeiro, Brazil.
"We have been preparing hard for the game and I am sure we are going to win the game convincingly, I am looking at us getting like a 4-0 win, but victory is what we will play for,” said Siasia.
“We are making efforts to get their match tapes to know them better.
“The boys are in high spirit and ready for the task."
Siasia will be without several of his foreign-based call-ups like Musa Mohammed, Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon, but Turkey-based forward Umar Aminu, Taiwo Awoniyi and Godwin Saviour will be available for selection.
The effective combination of Awoniyi and Saviour was evident at last month’s FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand after they had also combined to eliminate Zambia in a 2015 All Africa Games qualifier.
However, Congo coach Claude Leroy is equally bullish ahead of this showdown after they eliminated highly-fancied Ghana in the previous round of the qualifiers
"We have a huge chance of not only eliminating Nigeria, but qualifying for the Olympics. There is no reason why we should fear them," said the much travelled Frenchman, who last year led Congo full international team to shock the Super Eagles 3-2 in a 2015 AFCON qualifier.
Congo have invited a dozen foreign pros and will parade several full internationals including goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi, who was outstanding at this year’s AFCON as the Congo Red Devils reached the last eight in Equatorial Guinea.
The CAF U23 Championship will be staged by Senegal later this year and will serve as the qualifier for the 2016 Olympic football event.

Siasia gets Aminu boost for Congo clash

by Samm Audu
Coach Samson Siasia has received a massive boost with the arrival of Turkey-based striker Umar Aminu for Sunday’s CAF U23 Championship qualifier against Congo in Port Harcourt.
“Aminu has joined the team after he was released by his club from their pre-season training. It’s a bit late, but we will see how it goes,” Siasia disclosed.
Aminu was stand-out star for Nigeria at the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey after he emerged Goal King at the 2013 AYC in Algeria and he is now playing regularly in Turkey for Osmanlispor after a stint at Samsunspor.
Siasia will be without several Europe-based call-ups like Musa Mohammed, Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho as they are engaged in pre-season with their clubs.
Enyimba midfielder Kingsley Sokari is also ruled out after reporting late to training camp on account of his transfer talks in Tunisia with Esperance.
Siasia is therefore expected to stick with the core of the team who eliminated Gabon and Zambia from the 2015 All Africa Games.

Nigeria: Siasia Denies Bribery Allegations

By Tunde Eludini
The coach of the Nigeria U23 team, Samson Siasia, has vehemently denied the bribery allegation levelled against him by some players who claimed they were dropped from the Dream Team VI squad because they failed to offer bribes.
Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt ahead of this weekend's Olympic Qualifiers against Congo, Siasia stated that he was being impersonated on social media platforms like Facebook. He said anybody with a credible proof of him collecting bribe should bring out such to the public.
"I haven't collected any form of bribes from anyone since I started coaching, and I will never do such," the Beijing Olympic silver medal winning coach said. "Some persons have been using social media account which I am not aware off to talk to players. The public should note this, I don't have a Facebook account. I dislike it when people decide to spoil my name. It is sad and unacceptable. If you have proof against me, show it to the world."
Several allegations have been flying around about Siasia collecting bribe. Only recently, Pahang FA striker, Dickson Nwakaeme, told football portal a llnigeriasoccer.com that he was dropped from the 2008 Olympic team because he could not pay the N2m bribe demanded from him.
Meanwhile, Congo's U-23 boys expected in the country on Friday will face the Nigeria U-23 team in a final round, first leg qualifier for the 2nd African U-23 Championship, coming up in Senegal in December this year.
Siasia's wards expect a tough match against Congo, which eliminated Ghana's Black Meteors in the last round and is coached by experienced Frenchman, Claude LeRoy.

Dear Siasia, it is good to aim big o bt with d crop of players u have that scoreline is very unlikely. U better concentrate a lot more on ur defence to avoid letting in goals while pushing forwards to get 4 goals. I wish we can win by that margin anyways.

When did the U20 World Cup end? Jst barely over a month ago. What is pre-season tour? Is the competition and training as intense as that of the U20 WC?Sokari knows this team in and out. He has been a member since even before the Super 6 tourney in January. Aminu has never even trained with this team before. Who now stands a better chance of fitting in, Kingsley Sokari that has been with d team since inception and reported 1week ago or Aminu that has never trained with d team and arrived 2 or 3days before kick-off? Except Siasia will tell us that Sokari has nothing to offer.

While the Coach Samson Siasia tutored side will be aiming for a comprehensive victory in the cracker to make the reverse fixture a mere formality, the Red Devils who will be led by Claude Leroy, who masterminded a 3-2 victory over the Super Eagles in Calabar during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with the senior national team will be hoping to cause another upset that will make them stand a chance of qualifying for the African championship at the expense of Nigeria when they host the final qualifiers in Brazzaville in two weeks time.
In order to ensure that Nigeria qualifies for the championship, Siasia has selected a crack squad made up of three players from the Flying Eagles squad who were part of the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup namely; Taiwo Awoniyi, Saviour Godwin and Musa Yahaya to join the likes of Segun Oduduwa, Iroha Ebuka, Atanda Sadiq, Ikechukwu Okorie, Etor Daniel, Etobong Elisha and goalkeepers, Daniel Emmanuel, Yusuf Mohammed and Emmason Daniel among others to prosecute tomorrow’s encounter with the Rivers State Government throwing the gates open to encourage fans troop out en mass to cheer the team to victory.

The former Super Eagles coach who believes strongly that they are going to get positive result in the match stated that his players will not underrate the Congolese because doing so could be very dangerous.
“The players know what is at stake and that they are meeting a very good side and as such we are not going to underrate our opponents because they deserve some respect. But what I can assure Nigerians is that we are not only going to grab the three points at stake in today’s encounter but will win convincingly to make the second leg a mere formality.
Also speaking on the match, Congolese Coach, Claude Leroy, noted that they are in Nigeria to get a good result and be in an advantaged position when they host the Dream team in Brazzaville in a fortnight.
According to the French tactician, his players are capable of causing another upset against Nigeria, noting that their target is to pick the three points at stake in today’s encounter.

Hmmmmmmmmm Thats serious.
What do I have to say again?

I thought as much. This Congo game is going to be a hard nut to crack. I still believe we can beat Congo. They are beatable.

He doesn't have any personal issue with Sokari ,since after the World Cup Sokari went for trials in Europe. He came in a week to the the qualifying match ... And u want him to be part of the team? My opinion I think Sia1 is right for his omission , he can be part of the team in the 2nd leg .

There is a big difference between talking hard and talking too much, siasia is just talking too much. At the end of the day, the pressure would be on the strikers to make good of his loud mouth. 4-0 against an experienced congolese side coached by a veteran coach with vast african experience? The pressure from the fans is already too much, sia1 should quit adding to it.

Supporting Oliseh is one thing but the right choice? Impossible. Amunike has the same qualification. Will you say Amunike is the right choice to coach the National team?

lexyman:
I think they made the right choice , he's d most qualified coach we have now.

Interms of experience , he knows his weakness that was why he came with the expatriate .although I am a super fan of Steven Keshi , but I wil give Oliseh the support because the whole plan on paper looks juicy and they want the team to succeed ...I don't expect anything to happen now but I think the future is bright .
Amaju can't go wrong with the choice of Coach , he has been preparing himself taking a lot of training regarding football matters in the past 15 years and he's surrounded by some of our best player in the past ,as part of the technical study group ... For them to consider Oliseh , I am giving them d support . Bro let's support d Mafia , he can handle the team.

Icon4s points are so clear. There is a clear bias in Siasia's choice in this situation. If Aminu can get a chance in the team, it is impossible for it being late for Sokari.

The ambitious Turkish club, who will feature in the coming season’s UEFA Europa League, rounded up their training stint in Holland on Thursday with a 2-1 win over Greek club Asteras Tripolis.
They drew their first two matches against top Belgian clubs Anderlecht and Club Brugge as well as defeated Dutch second division side Fc Volendam 3-1.

I beg to disagree with your conclusion, Sokari is a midfielder while Aminu is a striker. His midfield tactics might already be balanced and bringing in Sokari could complicate things, given that the team has problems finishing their chances, Aminu could bring the relevant foreign experience even if he were to come off the bench during the game. I could be wrong though, jus trying to reason where he is coming from not everything is as it seems

Friends am scared of this Coach let me not lie to you oooo!
The mention of his name alone is what scares me and not even the team. How I wish and pray Siasia and his boys will beat this Congo U-23 team.

Siasia And The Nigerian Fear Of LeRoy

—As Nigeria U-23s Face Frenchman's Congo In Olympics Qualifier
By Adeboye Amosu:
To soccer-loving Nigerians, the fear of French coach Claude Le Roy is the beginning of wisdom. The reason is not far fetched, as the vastly travelled coach has been a thorn in the flesh of Nigerian teams in the past.
And fans in the soccer-mad West African nation will hope for better luck when the country's U-23 side face their Congolese counterparts, handled by Le Roy, for a place in the African U-23 Championship billed for Senegal later in the year.
On head-to-heads, Le Roy enjoys a 3-2 lead against Nigeria and those wins have come in crucial matches, most notably in the final of 1988 African Cup of Nations in Morrocco, when the Super Eagles fell 1-0 to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
Comple tesportsnigeria.com reviews past meetings between Nigerian teams and Claude LeRoy as Samson Siasia seeks to outwit the wily old fox…
DEBUT MEETING
The 67- year old first came to Nigeria's consciousness in 1988, when the Super Eagles confronted their Cameroonian counterparts in the final match of the encounter. He had led the Indomitable Lions to second place finish two years earlier in Egypt.
That game marked the beginning of what has today become one of the most intriguing rivalries in African football and dominance of LeRoy over Nigeria.
Henry Nwosu, the man whose impressive first-half header was controversially chalked off, believes the Leroy jinx is real and warned his former international teammate, Samson Siasia, who is in charge of Nigeria's U-23 side, to psyche his players for a tough battle against Congo.
''I must confess that Claude Le Roy has a magic mojo against our team," Nwosu confessed to Comple tesportsnigeria.com. "It started from that game against Cameroun in Morrocco and even though we have managed to beat his team on a number of occasions, he has prevailed in key games.
''The players are aware of this fact too, but it is the job of the coaches to try and prepare them mentally for the task ahead.
''Thank God we have a coach who played football to the highest level and knows how to prepare for key games like the one we have ahead of us."
Nwosu's view was corroborated by Peter Rufai, the man who was in goal in that game against the Cameroonians.
''I believe there is something about that man, Claude Le Roy, that is not known to us up until this moment. He seems to have a magic wand when he confronts us [Nigeria]," Rufai told comple tesportsnigeria.com.
''He is a wonderful character and he transformed that psychological edge he has over us to any team he is handling." ......................
