Elision is better used in spoken English than in writing. The major difference between Queens English and RP is that RP focuses exclusively on standard pronunciation while Queens English is also concerned with aspects such as grammar, vocabulary and style. So, in the context of your post on pronunciation, I think RP is appropriate (although I quite agree with you that Nigerians relate to Queens English better than RP). I really appreciate your polite response. #WeLearnEverday |

Phonetikkks: In free variations, we can have two pronunciations uk and us. Lieutenant is leftenant in us and lewtenant in uk. Both of them are correct. You must be consistent in which ever one you are using. I want to add to the above list. Drawer.... Is draw. Expected.... Expectid. Exam... igzaem or iksaem 2 Likes |

avicky: Nice and impressive contribution! However, the pronunciation "leftenant" is actually British. But in recent times, we hear popular American pronunciations accepted in British phonetics. Americans say "lootenant". In addition, Vowel ---- vowl Jewel --- jewl Counselling ---- cowns lin (not "cown seh lin" ) Cheers. |

Phonetikkks: Yes, you are right. Lewtenant is us. Just like either - even bbc newscasters do say ieder instead of uk aider. Machete is masheti |
