Hello people, my friend works in the bank and also running her post graduate program in the same state. She will be starting her exams very soon but her boss won't allow her go for it, and she has been pleading with her (boss) but to no avail, now she(my friend ) is contemplating on resigning.

Please advice me on what to tell her. 'Jobs no easy to come bye oh.'

she is crazy. why would her boss allow her to go take an exam. it is showing the boss that she is disloyal and is not committed to the job because that is telling the boss she wants to upgrade from the job she is doing after she passes her exams. some people need decorum lessons. so she expects the boss to say yes ? she is mad. just quit the job if your exams are more important than the job. case closed. or call in sick

lack of decorum is not the fact that she wants to move up in life, the lack of decorum is in telling your boss you want time off to go do some exams which is exams on a course the company did not send you on.

yeah but neither did she sign the employment contract and stated that she is selling her soul to the company, she is still entitled to annual leave and she can use her leave days to write her exams. Last time i checked bosses are not allowed to just refuse someone leave simply because they can, its violating her right to fair labour practices.
Its shocking we still have people who believe in human slavery like this.

employees aren't allowed to take off days in Nigeria? She can simply have the days taken off her annual leave days.

if every employee took off days willy-nilly the company will fold up. you have your annual leave, arrange your exams around your annual leave. its just as simple as that

you call taking days off for exams taking days off willy-nilly? This is someone getting higher qualifications that could actually be put to good use in the company. Some people are simply blinded by their narrow-mindedness. If she wanted days off to go on a holiday that would be one thing but to refuse someone days off because they have academic exams is simply _retarded.

I don't blame the millions of Nigerians that go abroad to seek greener pastures. They might as well go where their skills could actually make an impact as opposed to just being slaved away for peanuts at the end of the day.

listen here woman, this is exactly why employers usually dont like employing black people. you have this entitled mentality. if you dont like the companies policies you can quit. why would the company give you time off to go take exams for a course that they did not send you on ? for what reason ? if they wanted to put you to good use for their company they know the courses they will send you on. you doing courses on your own without their consent is not for their benefit. you think they are stupid ? they know if you get a better job offer after your course you will bounce and leave them, so quit that nonsense about you helping them when you get the qualification.
