Again i think we should look for other means to arm the military. It is even a security risk putting all our hopes in one basket for anything. The USA will protect its interest and depending on where we rank in there international dealings we come next. So where do we start we there interest does not support ours?
It is time to go local and to try other nations. No man is an Island! I maintain look for it else where. The kind of weapons we seek is not difficult to find. After all is not like we have the muscle to acquire or run the hi-tech equipments. The current treat we are challenged with can be tackled with the basic security tech even South-Africa can provide. Is it hard to get training for staff, spy tech, bomb detectors, protective gears, drone, recon planes,Amour ed vehicles, updated assault rifles, ground attack jets and helicopters. At the moment the challenge we have is the response time when under attack and preempting attacks.
If we get aerial support the attacks could be devastating on BH anytime they do that attack.

conspiracy u say... dnt b naive. i bliv d nigerian army 2 b capable of human right abuse. hw many tyms av we seen pics & vids of soldiers beatn & harrassing unarmed civilians? imagine wt dey wld do in war zones...
As clever as u are,u believe the American Leahy law on nigeria was solely prompted by the NA human right abuse? Well I don't think so. The US would do every thing within her power to ensure that Nigeria recognizes homosexualism; which a top US official asserted last week.

And that is why I tagged the US move conspiracy. Thank u!

And where are your government firms that fall into this category?? undecided smartass....smh ...$$
ocelot2006:
Nigeria makes weapons and combat platforms from assault rifles to machine guns, pistols to submachine guns, tactical vests, Armoured vehicles, UAVs, and naval gunboats. What we don't manufactur are more complex systems like NVGs, Aircrafts, communication gear, Sensor systems, etc.

The Nigerian Army Engineering Corps designed and producing the Igirigi MRAP, same vehicle that conveys troops into combat up north.

DICON, The FG owned Defence company, produces MOST the light firearms (assault rifles, pistols, machine guns, RPGs, Mortar tubes, munition) used by the military. In addition, the company produces ALL the tactical vests/bullet proof vests and CAMEL water system used by our Soldiers, Airmen, and Sailors in combat.

The Nigerian Airforce Engineering Institute designed and produced our UAVs (Amebo I and II, GULMA)

The Nigerian Navy Naval dockyards (Engineering) designed and produced NNS Andoni, a gunboat

Those, SMART A$$, are the government firms/organization involved in our local defence industry.
