A very important dignitary like the Ooni of Ife dies and I don't see Nigerians posting "RIP Ooni, the world's going to miss you". But if it is one American celebrity who probably died of drug overdose, my timeline would have exploded with posts. It's obvious we don't value our own.
Rest in Peace Ooni of Ife.

RIP....son of oduduwa...say hi to obatala
Get ur story right........... Ooni wz never Son to Oduduwa. When Oduduwa wz about to die, he handed over d royal mantle to Oranminyan who wz his youngest grandson. Oranminyan couldn't stay long in Ile- ife cos of the nature of him being a warrior. He fought all over and finally settled at Oyo akoko before he moved to the present Oyo Alaafin. Due to the vacancy created by Oranminyan and taking 2 accounts that, the other grand children have gone 2 establish there own settlement( orangun, onipopo, onisabe, Benin). Oluwo is the name given to pple meant 4 sacrifice den. There was this Oluwo who wz pregnant and cud not be use cos of her pregnancy, she gave birth, and she wz used. The child she gave birth to wz install as the Ooni so as to take care of the royal stool in d absence of Oranmiyan. Ooni emanates from 'omo oluwo ni'............ And that, apart from partisan politics, is why the Alaafin Oyo and the Ooni Ife have never seen eye to eye.

Did oranmiyan not go back to Ife to become the 6th ooni where he ruled and eventually died. The opa oranmiyan (obelisk) was built in Ife in his honour for all his conquest in battles. His descendants have since become ooni since then.

Oluwo ko, ogboni ni.

The Senate President ought to wait for the official release (not newspaper publication) before releasing this!

But Oduduwa himself was an Ooni, the first Ooni of Ife. Oranmiyan was the 6th Ooni too, you should take a trip to ife to check out his staff and also make a request that you want to see the exact spot he died which has now been turned into a shrine, it's just a few metres from where the staff is located. Derin Ologbenla was an Ooni too. So why are you vibrating huh

He probably read that story book written by the born again reverend father from Oyo. Some of the things in the book are correct while some are not.

Actually, it was.

The slave trade was what disrupted the region.

Me minion? grin

Well are you aware of the character called Ogun? A prince of Ife and eventual 3rd Olufe. He fought wars all over what has become Yorubaland and put the lands he conquered under his Father's authority

Why do you think the princes from Ife found it relatively easy to settle and found dynasties outside Ife?

Not just slave trade. Internal aggression and wars(for land, power, justice, betrayal and women) was common in those days.

You saying an Oba was democratically elected by the citizens?
You sure you know what democracy is?

But I just remembered something. ..probably the Pre- Oduduwa government was based on democracy
