more grace bro, I love your zeal. but pls try to be washing d wall of d pond. it looks very dirty & it's not healthy enough for the fish. Note: fishing business is more better than poultry because fish does not consume a lot if food, they hardly fall sick & very expensive while selling them. more grace my brother, I'm proud of you in though I don't know u. this is d kind of news WE should be hearing instead of APC VS PDP EVEY DAY.

The fish that you will use to spawn. Plz ensure that the fish is 'long' as a result of its genetic make up and not as a result of starvation.

Exactly... Pple just assume its so easy wt no stress... It should be a full time job (depending on the number of fishes you have). Apart from the physical stress, you also have to deal with the mental/emotional stress involved

Gosh!

Very dirty fish pond.

Vey dirty water.

And to cap it all, you go into the pond with your bare feet.

Damn!!

Try and clean up that pond. Haba!!!
Re: A Nairalander Managing His Little Fish Pond- Self-employed by Nobody: 8:44pm On Aug 08, 2015
i think there are too many of them in a small place. The pond needs expansion for that amount of fish.

Spot on!!! Except they expect him to wash the ponds every 2 weeks and change the water every day which is stressful for the fishes.

You are talking rubbish!!

Just because you are set in your dirty and unhygenic ways does not mean that's the way things are done.

In sane countries, that 'fish pond' will be drained, all the dish destroyed and the "fish farmer" prosecuted for breeding livestock for public consumption in a dirty environment

The pond does look crowded.
Have no fisheries knowledge,
Or experience. Do think less congestion will be good for them to thrive.
Re: A Nairalander Managing His Little Fish Pond- Self-employed by UjSizzle(f): 9:30pm On Aug 08, 2015
My uncle had a fish pond in the past. Whenever we had to change the water, we'd fine bones of the smaller fishes at the bottom. Turned out the bigger ones ate the smaller ones for reasons I couldn't fathom. They were feeding well (twice a day and he changed the feed everytime they got bigger). I guess bullying isn't exclusive to the human race undecided
Anyway, I loved how they swam to the surface in a flurry to feed; the dragon flies kissing the water and the birds trying to catch fish. Always a pleasure to watch smiley

God bless your hustle OP. I'm assuming the water level is low because you're trying to harvest some of them (we did that too), but the tank doesn't look clean at all. You should work on that.
Well done.

Hian, you insulted him because of his opinion?? In "saner" countries, they make use of earthen ponds and the waters are not clean, in fact, most times, the are "green" in color, it takes a lot of work to wash the ponds and the more you wash, the more they wear off, the more they leak.

To all shouting the water level is low, the wall is dirty....
Do u expect him to be swimming wt the fishes to catch them? Or can't u see the guy is in for a catch?
Learn something now.
Fertilizing ur pond for algae growth is an option for supplementing/complimenting ur fish feed.
Fishes feed on algae.... Abi na u dey feed the ones wey dey for river?

May God bless us all (fish farmers)

Please, how much will it cost to feed 50,000 juveniles for 6 months?
What is the average consumption like daily/weekly/monthly? What other costs should be factored in for a project of this size? I want to work on a cashflow projection for a proposed fish farm and your input would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Water level is low because he is doing some work in the pond.... Either sorting, harvesting or simply changing the water.
Thats the way a used fertilized pond will look like. It cannot be 'sparkling clean'. U will see algae on the walls which in itself is not bad but rather advantageous to the fishes.
