And u call piece of shit a rail road. Do u know how much debt the country's unborn generation will be made to pay for taking that loan? This is the problem with nigerians. Some people just settle for less(poverty mentality). GEJ and Okonjo took a loan of over one billion dollar for a world class rail project, they turn around and invest a misely 200 million dollar on old coaches that are not fit for World War Two era transportation system and divert the rest, then you post disgraceful images to commend those thieves for a job well done. We have been settling for less in decades that is why our country of 170 million people can only generate 4,000 MW after spending over 20 billion dollars. Bad leadership will thrive when you have docile followership.
The guy never travel before so he's seeing painted 1948 coaches for the first time. He enjoys mediocrity.

StOla:
You're not ashamed to post those rural vehicles as trains in this modern era?

Did you see the type of railway developed by the other country that got a similar Chinese grant?

What a clown you are.
socialmediaman:
So you're happy that a 504 was bought for you at the cost of 500 million Naira? While the project is commendable (though the trains are outdated), we should get our balance back from the criminals who embezzled them.

These idiots live abroad as very law abiding citizens and they'll never try this over there because they know the law won't recognize your face, but they come home to Their own fatherland and try to destroy it, why should they be pitied?
Thank you for your confirmation that the project is COMMENDABLE.
What would you say about the "best excellent" APC governor who borrowed $1 billion for aloku scrap metal tokunboh Toronto trains that are yet to be seen, talk less of being used in Lagos huh

* Four years ago, with plenty fanfare, our former gomina (governor) waka go Toronto for inspect and buy aloku scrap metal trains =>

Fashola visited Toronto earlier this year to inspect the TTC trains.

The Lagos deal would be the first of its kind for the TTC. Decommissioned cars are usually sold for scrap metal and can fetch up to $1,500 dollar each. While Ross declined to discuss specific figures, he says the sticker price for Lagos is "significantly more" than scrap prices, putting the potential profits to the TTC in the millions of dollars. shocked

It is not unusual for technology from western nations to end up in poorer countries. Marketplaces in Africa and Asia are flooded with North American clothes, computers, and even cars, but the purchase of larger technology like trains is rarer.

The cars will have to be significantly refurbished to fit existing infrastructure in Lagos, and some Nigerian media reports have lamented that the government appears to have settled on "tokundo," or used, trains instead of brand new vehicles.

Although half the cars are more than 30 years old, Ross is adamant they are perfectly safe and are only being decommissioned for capacity reasons. But he also admitted the TTC is not required to make sure the cars meet any safety standards before selling them.

"Once sold, it's up to the new operator to ensure they are in good working order," he said. "They do need to be maintained much more frequently than the new trains, simply because of their age. At some point they will run out their useful life."

Murtaza Haider, director of the Institute of Housing and Mobility at Ryerson University, said the age of the cars is definitely a cause for concern.

"We should be ensuring that there is some service life left in these vehicles and we're not going to be playing havoc with the lives of those who would ride these vehicles," Haider said. "There's metal fatigue, and that metal fatigue could result in dangerous conditions. I would be paying a close watch on this for the next ten years to see how many accidents do happen in Lagos."

* In January 2013, i.e. some two years after the Toronto visit, our "excellent" former governor said the trains will be ready by June, i.e. five months after the unsolicited statement, based on his inspection & assessment of work done so far at the time =>

Lagos light rail’ll be ready in June – Fashola
JANUARY 9, 2013

The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday said the first phase of the state Blue Light Rail project would be completed by June this year(2013).

He expressed confidence that Lagosians would start enjoying the services of the lrail project immediately.

The first phase would run from Marina and terminated at Okokomaiko area in Ojo Local Government.

Fashola spoke during an inspection of ongoing projects in the state which took him and his cabinet members to Orile-Iganmu, Alimosho and Ejigbo areas among others to assess the level of works being done by contractors.

The governor, who inaugurated the trackwork of the blue light rail at Alaba Suru, Coker-Agunda Local Council Development Area, said the level of work on the road and those of the National Theatre and Alaba-Mile 2 rail stations, would ensure early completion

He said, “In order to finish the project, the contractor did not go on vacation during the festive period. This will ensure that the project is delivered on time for the use of Lagosians.

* Last year, our fine-boy-no-pimples former Misita Gomina confessed he had already spent a whopping sum of N160 billion on the light rail that was supposed to be in use since June 2013. Depending on the exchange rate he used that could be $1 billion to $1.2 billion spent shocked

He, therefore, explained that the state government already “has in place, strategies to repay the loan. The federal government was in the know of the state’s decision to take the bond and it approved it.”

He added that the truth “is that what they do not also say is that no state in Nigeria can borrow money outside, from any multilateral agencies without the approval of the federal government.

“What they did not say is that they approved it. No state can raise money by bond the way we have done without the federal government’s approval. Both SEC and NSE are all federal regulatory agencies through which we must pass. If they said okay, it means there must be something good about the debt.

When is the light rail going to be delivered, the project seems to be going on for years?

I just said it, it’s being funded by Lagos State and the Federal Government support is not there. But I believe strongly that we will create a financial restructuring that will allow us to deliver that light rail within the next 18 months.

But you know say you get problem sha

There is no need for long story. This has nothing to do with trains running in Aba or not. A loan was taken for a specific purpose. We need to know why the money was diverted to other purposes.

Wait for answers to be provided instead of this desperation to muddy the waters

Did you read the entire article. They never said money was missing but it was diversed for other purposes and the President said, he hope that due process was followed in diversing the funds.

Nothing to wail about or defense. The President also ordered the release of funds for national exigences recently, so I don't see the big deal in this.

[size=20pt]Okonjo Iweala should be immediately arrested and tried in a law court and the money allegedly embezzled by her recovered for the nation 's development. She is a mega criminal who took advantage of Jonathan inexperience as a leader and perhaps foolishness and stole the nation crazy.
When Oshiomole brought her criminal records before Nigerians and the international community she is denying it and going personal against Oshiomole.

During Obasanjo government her incapability was discovered and she was thrown from the position of minister of finance to the minister of foreign affairs which she did not accept and decided to tender a resignation. But gullible and clueless Jonathan recycled her back to the ministry of finance as minister of finance. We Nigerians now know why she lost her ambition to become the world bank President. If she had succeeded in her quest she could have stole the world crazy and get Nigeria disgrace. Her carreer is over as she is no longer a trusted person

Do you know what light rails are? I am not going to defend Fashola specifically on this one because i do not know the specifics of his project, just want to highlight your flawed argument. Light rail systems are modern rail systems (modern form of the older tram). They are powered by electricity (or diesel in some places in north america) which has to be specifically generated, they have a fare collection system, and you have to lay the tracks as well as buy the light rail passenger equipment. Since there have never been tracks laid for it before in Lagos, you have lay fresh tracks across the Lagos cities where they operate because they use their own tracks, it is built to have a right of passage which means they're giving priority to cars at traffic points.

How can you compare this project to existing railway tracks built in ancient times which the GEJ government just had to buy old trains and place them on the same existing old rail tracks instead of laying modern tracks? All these coming at an outrageous price afterall. I said the project of building rails is commendable, but not the process of bringing back ancient rail system that should have been completely scrapped and rebuilt. GEJ failed woefully in that regard. You might enjoy it because probably you havent used better ones abroad, afterall ignorance is not a crime. If you dont care about the cost of giving an ancient system at the same cost of a modern system, then apologies, its not my fault, but there are Nigerians who cannot be played that scam, there are wise Nigerians who are concerned about such scam in high places.
