Average life expectancy in Nigeria is 54. They are older than that.

First time Nigeria ever truly won the U-17 WC was in 2013.

That was the first time we did not age-cheat.

How time fiies...Ugbade and co. Who can forget Victor Igbinoba's superb goal. Racism was a real scourge in soccer at that time so their victory was a major achievement for an African nation. Funny enough, this same Mohammadu Buhari was the head of state when they won. They had streets named after them and that was all. I remember Ebenezer Obey waxing a record in their honour - ojo ree bi ana grin grin grin grin

hmmm Nigeria cheating at age grade competition since 1985
Not true. I knew some of them personally . They actually were still playing inter school football shortly before. I watched them play. Sure people started school older back then. Truth is some may not even really have known how old they were. That was still common then. So you assume 5 years when starting primary one. The oldest was probably around 18 or 19. grin cheesy

Who told we did not cheat in 2013, 2013 was the only the year we cheated less, cos personally know one of the youngest players, Musa Yahaya to be precise he played for Kawo united in Kaduna I will authoritatively tell you he was like 19-20 then but that is far better than the folks that played in 2007 where someone like Yakubu Alfa played under 17 at 34

Abeg forget dat one . the fact is Nigeria has only won dis competition in 2013. The year in which our players wear fairly younger, although they are more than age 17 but are less than age 21 which is normal for most European countries too. most of those past under17 winning players never progressed much after the competition, but only few could excel aftermath the competition.

Well, speculation is easy. I'm talking of people I know. I remember submitting my WAEC enrolment form to school VP office. Because I looked big & tall, most school friends thought I was older, when in fact I was about the youngest. That I had passed my GCE a year earlier and help some of them school mates with subjects didn't help.

Why we have been programmed to be cynical and doubtful, it doesn't change the fact.

With the recent introduction of MRI Scanning, only a few failed it. I'm sure if they hadn't undergone that test, people like you would have said they were all over 35 years old.

In terms of progressing post Youth championship, here in UK, less than 10% of talented youth players get a professional contract when they turn 18. Youth talent doesn't always translate into professional success.

I watched Yakubu Aiyegbeni playing kids football. He was the last person I would have tipped to play in EPL. Only a couple more made it abroad. Far more talented players he played with never even made it to Bendel Insurance, NNB or Enugu Rangers. grin cheesy

They were all picked from Secondary school teams and youth clubs, no league players. Lots of went back school on scholarships, some continued to play football. we knew them from our school teams their clubs at that time when secondary football was fire. Lucky Agbonasevbaefe is in London and a licensed coach.
