for those putting bracket by themselves, you consider the bracket only when it is originally there but in this case there was no bracket anywhere. 12 remains the answer...where is chika Obi?.....oh in the grave. Oya OP receive ten lashes because it seems you didn't know the answer. 1 Like |

Re: First Bank Simple Equation That 87% Could Not Solve. by namdo(m): 2:24pm On Aug 11, 2015 |
naturefellow:B for bracket: first any quantities in bracket should be solved first. O for Of: any expression containing OF ( as in percentage or fraction) should be solved second considering the result from the bracket operation. D for Division considering the result of OF operation, etc. No brackets, no OF therefore only MAS should be considered. M: 3x3 = 9. The problem becomes 3+9-3+3 = 12. Ordinarily use your calculator if confused and be convinced. |

dearpreye: My brother, even if people hate mathematics, at least they should learn the basics. I've always been a math lover. We competed fiercely in my high school then. We took it to the level of Further Mathematics. Ordinary maths (as we used to call it was like pure water, Further mathematics was like big stout. Black, dense and bitter. Lol. If you have the guts, come to the table. It was fun then and I tell you, it laid a solid foundation of solving computational problems in me. While in service, I spent so much of my time teaching kids the basics; they had a terrible foundation. Sometimes, when I make corrections, I relate with people in a way I think they already or should know it. I'll blame the parents and teachers. My dad used to put us through with maths and English language courses. Lol. Teachers who are half-baked come to teach students. Administrator wants cheap labour and so employs very low quality staff. Personally, I do not support Corps members being posted to secondary schools. These guys arguing here may be serving and only God knows what they are impacting on these kids. Someone was even arguing with me that addition MUST come before subtraction. Lol. That thread, na something else. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Guys, You are allowed to put brackets ANYWHERE so long as you establish order of precedence. So I can say: 3+3x3-3+3 = 3 + (3x3) - 3 + 3 = (3 + (3X3)) - (3 - 3) Establishing the order of precedence is what matters. |

dearpreye: Yes, that's really true. I read somewhere where it was said by Bill Gate: if you were born poor, then it is not your fault. But if you die poor, then you're responsible. I hate it with passion when people refuse to take corrections and resist any attempt to be corrected. And worse is when they pick offence for being corrected. They say: if you think education is expensive, try ignorance. 2 Likes 1 Share |

kaboninc: Most of us are yet to separate between academics and education. An educated man will immediately accept superior argument and run back to his books and make amends, thereby learning something new. He won't also hesitate to unlearn whatever he's learned, even for centuries. That's the educated man. We're responsible for our lives. Our parents have done their best. We can continue to deceive ourselves OR be responsible and carve silver spoons for our own kids. It's a choice. And the consequences of not taking it are dire. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Re: First Bank Simple Equation That 87% Could Not Solve. by Nobody: 4:48pm On Aug 11, 2015 |
xenten: Are you for real? How did you arrive at 6? Did you recently discovered any new rules of BODMAS? And then you called someone an OLODO? We can now officially tell where Nigeria is headed. To make mistakes is normal. To accept being wrong is also normal. But to be arrogantly, relentlessly refusing to acknowledge one's wrong, in the face of the obvious, is grossly abnormal. 1 Like |

xenten: Bro, it does not call for insult please. simply use BODMAS.... since there is no bracket (for B) and division. ( for D)...... then O and M= multiplication while A and S is as it is...addition and subtraction. work it out according to the alphabet or in alternative, as the bank tru their twitter or Facebook handle the answer to that equation. As someone who has passed through the university, I am 99.98% sure that the answer is what I quoted unless otherwise stated by the bank PEACE |

dearpreye: Boss, He is entitled to his opinion just that he refuse to point out his own opinion in a civilized manner. His type are those that will strike first in public only to be floored with a superior opinion.. Then imagine the humiliation and embarrassment it will cause him. Like I said, he is entitled to his opinion but should have done it in a mild way without resulting to insult. I hope that he will still be humble enough to tender his appology when he finally realized that he is the one that got the answer wrong. 1 Like 1 Share |
