True talk, We Nigerians don't know the history/secret behind rapid development in developed countries. Quality Education is the major driver the rapid development in any serious Nation.

THESE PICTURES NA SMALL COMPARE TO WHAT'S ON GROUND

Not as beautiful as the hostels built with Clay bricks in legon .Two occupants in a room and some for four.I actually shared a room with a colleague for three months in Ghana hostels.all facilities provided and a kitchen to cook with a balcony to spread your clothes on the line.Naija government has to send officials to University of Ghana legon,Capecoast university and KNUST to see how hostels are maintained and borrow a leaf from them.

I don't have the numbers but i believe there are more than 30 private universities accredited by the National Accreditation Board.

What i know for for a fact, are these public institutions

UG established in 1948
KNUST established in 1952
Gimpa 1961
UCC 1962
UDS 1992
UCEW 1992
UMAT 2001 and 2 new ones established about 3 years ago

U can even mention them, ours can't be mentioned like this but if u insist, u wil have to start with almost 36 states and some state has more than a university. I observed that most institution listed above are new not as old as our old generation universities.
Well I pray for better Naija

I won't dispute the fact that Ghanaian government owned universities are much better than ours here, but OP I think what you may not have realised is that you may have been placed in the dorms for international students and trust me with the fees charged nothing less is expected so it isn't as much a big deal as getting your money's worth in service delivery.

Where she was put at the night was Elizabeth Sey hall which was one of the 4 new halls constructed by the university 4 years ago.But all the old halls constructed in in late 50s and early 1960s are still in top shape as could be seen of pictures of Commonwealth hall and Volta hall.Sarbah hall constructed in 1963 is still in top shape and is comparable to the new halls and private hostels on campus

I guess you are talking about some private universities in Ghana, huh? Because merit is the only basis for admission, not because you have money.

The problem with you nigerians is you don't even check the schools you wish to attend and turn around to talk crap.

Olashore International School and other private secondary schools in Nigeria have better hostels.
If that toilet and bedroom are what OP is calling beautiful, then the OP must be coming from the worst ghetto in Nigeria.

That school is quietly becoming the defacto school for the affluent in this country.

Though I'm sure with Buhari redeeming back our stolen wealth. Some of those schools will have much less patronage.

Covenant is not as bad. Itnis actually good based on Nigeria's standard but those Ghanaian schools are better.

The hostels are beautiful when compared to Nigerian hostels. They are below par and ugly when compared to American dorms or world-class dorms. It depends on your level of exposure. If all you've ever seen were Nigerian hostels, then these U of Ghana hostels would be "beautiful" to you.

Like i said earlier, University of Legon hostels is almost or equivalent to some foreign Universities and that does not mean it is better or most beautiful Universities in the world. I said i visited some of South Korea Universities before and i know what standard of beauty is all about. mind you, South Korea has the best Educational system in the world.

So bro, my point is not all about the beauty but to expose the rot in Nigeria Universities.

We attended the just concluded 2015 IYF(International Youth Fellowship) World Youth Camp in University of Ghana, Legon Ghana from 31st of July - 4th August, and because we arrived late at night we were given temporary accommodations for that night pending registration the next day. However, they took us to Elizabeth Francis Hall(hostel) where we were given a room.

At first, i thought it was the usual Nigerian public Universities but we got the ultimate surprises of our life, behold the rooms we were given was well painted with white paint i repeat sparkling spotless white paint, two bunk beds with school made foams, four tables and chairs obviously for four students, well designed wardrobe for each students, a toilet and bathroom with water running through the taps, a ceiling fan, tiled floors, fire alarm, private balcony to spread your clothes e.t.c almost or equivalent to what i saw in one Busan University in South Korea when i attended 2014 IYF World Youth Camp in Busan.

Chai!! I don die, see Ghana Ghana wey no get oyel pass us, come get pass better university pass us.

In fact, holistically we stand a better chance than Ghana but how they come get better facilities pass us. Ghanians i beg make una understand. no offense.

No wonder foreigner students full the University.

The next day we register and were given rooms in ISHI(International Students Hostel), the setting is different from the previous hostel. It has two beds with the school made foams, two designed wardrobes, two tables and chairs, a ceiling fan, fire alarm, balcony to relax and spread clothes, well tiled floors e.t.c. the bathroom and toilet are not in the rooms this time around but they are very clean with running water. They have kitchens with refrigerators and one other room.

Let me cut the story short. University of Ghana is far far far.....better than all ........... terms of beauty, maintenance culture, facilities e.t.c

I was told that the school is autonomous, and that they always renovates all the structures and facilities at the end of every session.

see the pictures for yourself.

1, Front view of Elizabeth Francis Hostel

2, other hostels arround Elizabeth Hostel

..
No wonder most students i taught in school"private school" whose parents are half Ghanian and Nigerian choose to further their studies in Ghana. Our government to do something on that.

The US also has a GDP of nearly 17 trillion dollars. It is YOU who needs to leave the argument as you have no point. You think excellent facilities drop from the sky? It takes MONEY. And even if all Nigerian politicians were saints, we would still struggle to provide the sort of world class services people like you demand of the country. What we need to do is build more wealth instead of sitting around sharing this meagre oil money and thinking we're a 'rich country'.

(And please try to provide accurate info instead of attempting to deceive people by your false stats about Finland).

So are you saying it is deserving and justifiable of us to have rotting Universities?

I think University of Ghana is more beautiful than both of them.
