Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has
described the gains of the immediate past
administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in
the agricultural sector as a big scam that was
used to fool Nigerians.
According to him, the much hyped agricultural
revolution of President Jonathan, was a big scam
as the nation is import dependent on rice and
other foods.
Specifically, the governor accused the past
government of fritting away over N800billion on
waivers for rice millers and others at the detriment
of local rice producers, most of who have since
gone bankrupt.
“The agriculture revolution was one of the
advertised achievements of President Goodluck
Jonathan but we have since realised that it was
purely a scam on us. It is also a policy
contradiction where a government will give
waivers and support importers to import what can
be produced locally putting its own people out of
business while enriching other nations. Local
manufacturers that produce locally are punished.”

Expatiating, he said: “Unfortunately for us, rice
millers imported rice without even paying duties,
as a nation we should not be seen to be importing
what is locally produced. Where then is the
success story in the sector? Agriculture is not
about bow-ties and designer suits but hard facts
that cannot be uncontroverted.”
He urged the immediate prohibition of food
imports noting that if it’s achieved, food prices will
only go up immediately but will stabilise and be
attractive enough for young Nigerians to go into
farming.

but the guy is so on point : advertising the agricultural ministry as making Nigeria rice independent on one hand, while on the hand giving government cronies a free reign of bringing in rice with complete waivers makes absolutely no sense. THE AGRICULTURAL REVOLUTION WAS INDEED A SCAM.

It obvious you don't even get the crux of the matter; the waivers are illegal. it was given to some set of people as gift for them to make a lot money , it was not a general thing .

The import waivers were meant to encourage local production, not encourage importation of food. Under the same import waivers, petrol importers were getting waivers also, all of which cost us $20 billion dollars loss of revenue initiated through the NIPC alone, talk less of others we don't know. In fact we got wind of this one because Okonjo Iweala frowned at the NIPC about the massive fraud and someone got the memo leaked and got sacked by GEJ. It's crazy man, they have ripped your country into pieces while they're using sentiments to divide and rule you. Never again man! Let the "one" Fulani man whom I know has the balls to get back at them do the needful, I don't care!

you're free to support anyone you want, i supported GEJ's government too till it became obvious his government was irredeemable, it has been stated severally that GEJ lost election due to impunity and corruption, he had good programs and innovation, but corruption and impunity killed them all, Nigeria was headed for destruction under him. Meanwhile what i wrote earlier had nothing to do with the ex-minister of agriculture. i'm talking about importation here and agric happened to be among the products fraudulently added to the list
