Lagos has been ranked amongst the worst cities to live globally following the ‘Global Liveability Ranking’, by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) for 2015.
Nigeria’s most populous city Lagos was considered the fourth least (136) liveable city in the world on the list of 140. The survey took account of cities’ healthcare, education, safety, culture, environment and infrastructure.

Unsurprisingly, the Syrian city of Damascus – which has been ravaged by the country’s civil war – was last on the list of 140 major cities.
It was followed by Dhaka in Bangladesh, Port Morseby in Papua New Guinea, Lagos in Nigeria and the Libyan capital of Tripoli, which has also been the victim of an ISIS insurgency.

Melbourne was named the best city in the world to live in for the fifth year in the row while Vienna in Austria came second followed by the Canada cities of Vancouver and Toronto, and Australia’s Adelaide.
Melbourne again achieved a near-perfect score of 97.5 out of a possible 100.
Vienna recorded an impressive 97.4, Vancouver 97.3, Toronto 97.2 and Adelaide – the second Australian city in the top five – got 96.6.
“Those that score best tend to be mid-sized cities in wealthier countries with a relatively low population density,” the EIU report said.
“These can foster a range of recreational activities without leading to high crime levels or overburdened infrastructure.”

But the world has become a more dangerous place to live, according to the EIU report which said the global ‘stability score’ fell by 2.2 per cent over the last five years.
Several cities across the globe have suffered a decline due to recent terror attacks, ongoing conflict and general instability.
France’s capital Paris – the victim of last year’s violent Charlie Hebdo attack – was one of six western European nations whose liveability score decreased.

I'm going to be honest, the infrastructure in Lagos is totally dilapidated, even in victoria island it is very outdated and needs to be revamped.

Only in Nigeria do you have open gutters next to pavements(that's if there is even any pavements).

APC really tried with Lagos especially Fashola, the only state that makes most of its revenue from tax collection. That would have taken some serious financial reforms.

But indeed Lagos is a mess and no-one can deny that.

PDP made more than enough money to carry out major infrastructure development on a national scale; especially under GEJ.

Sorry, who is to blame? Most of Lagos roads are federal government roads. Forget about roads only, is it not the federal government's role to provide infrastructure for all regions of the country?

Was it not GEJ's government that refused to fund the rail project in Lagos?

The problem with Lagos is more of its population. No city can carry such huge population of people without grappling with urbanization issues.

Whatever dude. What you described isn't unique to Lagos and will apply to any city as congested and fast-paced. I've lived in NYC and visited L.A Cali a few times too (L.A is even worse than Lag in my opinion, with its ghettos and gang-violence and all).So all what you ascribed to Lag are ever present there as well -- the good, the bad, and the ugly. This can only be expected in any megacity with its population and size so kini big deal?

So why aren't other cities not so heavily occupied by other Nigerians different from your tribe better? Lagos has been over-hyped solely because it was once the capital and is the centre of commerce in Nigeria. The nature of Lagos far transcends any tribal colouration because both Nigerians and foreigners settle there and ply their trade. It is the same with every other commercial city or national capital including the ones ranked No 1.

Your concern as a civilised Nigerian should be to hold the leaders accountable and demand proper leadership at all spheres. You should worry about where all the billions allocated to and generated in Lagos have gone to. Turning it to a tribal issue only makes u appear myopic. Your sentiments will not drive away serious business men who are doing their thing. It will also not curb the acts of miscreants and criminals that now brazenly rob on highways.
