PROVACATEUR:Uncle Sam and there different magic, the more you look the less you see. Afghanistan don't have oil but the need to control the opium market so big in that country is one of uncle Sam goals and strategic control of the middle east region. Sorry mate Somalia ain't gat any resources of intrest to big brother. |

uniklinkum: I think it's a case of "for want of a better head". Americans are still sexist (they'd deny it vehemently) which further slims her chances. American Presidents have always had pre-election controversies anyway. That Bush Jnr got re-elected attests to that.♦ |

PROVACATEUR:International news media is bullshiit, opinions are modelled according to the news agency 'virusing' you. I switch all of them anyways but I feel all of them get specfic intrest to protect. So no need taking in their toxics. |

uniklinkum:Terrorism is financed by the Opium sales but I think that US wants to establish a base in Afghanistan to be more closer to Russia its perennial enemy. What fuels terrorism in the Arab world? |

nigerianium:But the chances of the dems in the coming election is so slim, I don't see any outstanding contender on both side of the divide. But at last the world can't manage another cretin like bush jnr as the potus. |

PROVACATEUR:America already have lot of bases on the balkans so they might want to consolidate with an outreach in Afghanistan but they wanna real get into the opium trade too. Terrorism is fueled by multiple factors from religion extremism to western nations covert operations e.g Isis and many other factors like the peeps seeking revenge on the ordeals of the Palestinian. |

nigerianium:BBC is the worst. Trust me. When you read BBC features and their stories about Africa you will see that they still see Africa as a barren land whose people are still celebrating the sight of a four wheeled vehicle. When they want to talk about Africa and manufacturing, they tell you about Africans still manufacturing Clay pots. |

PROVACATEUR: BBC attacks even British organizations. You remember the phone hacking scandal of 2010 which implicated Guardian newspaper? It implicated BBC employees too. BBC was the first to report it and they followed it to the end. ♦ |

uniklinkum:The Palestinian issue is greater than Israel and US at this point. Some Arab states do not want an independent Palestine as well. |

God bless you PROVACATEUR. I'm taken by this thread I, for example, have been trying to lay a handle on the Greece crisis et all, vis-a-vis the current situation of illegal immigrants still trouping there despite the crisis. One or twice, I've visited the foreign news section to find help, and there was really not much going on there. Perhaps, lovers of foreign news should be indulged a bit by pushing such topics to the front page, where they'll receive more attention. I second PROVACATEUR's motion. |

Gaborone:The influx of asylum seekers into Greece are majorly Syrians and other middle eastern guys fleeing wars in there country. They are only using the country as a transit point because of its proximity to other European nations. |

PROVACATEUR:Palestine was under Jordanian control for a while (west bank) but they did not declare a Palestinian state because it fears that another democratic state in the region will be dangerous from the Hashemite monarchy who had already lost out in Iraq. They had to fight the PLO and drove them out to Lebanon (Black September). Most Arab monarchies are not interested in Palestine especially during the cold war and are indifferent to the Palestinian issue today. The reason is because must royal houses are minority tribes installed by the western powers after the ottoman empire was carved up in the Sykes–Picot deal between the European powers after the first world war. They fear that the more democratic the middle east gets, Their dynasties will be toppled. When Nasser was the leader of Egypt, That was his main goal (Arab revolution). Most of them see Israel as their de facto protector but on the other hand cant support Israel openly and will always sit on the fence. US itself does not want a democratic middle east since it is bad for business. Israel is only leveraging on all these complexities to grab more land. |
