Rueful : A Short Story by Nobody: 9:58pm On Aug 14, 2015
I picked up the scapel again with shaky hands, I dropped it, took another look at the patient and I was lost, scared.

"Doctor his pressure his rising" one nurse said
"he is losing a lot of blood" another said almost at the same time
"his groins are swelling up, internal bleeding" another replied

it was as if they were all talking at the same time, they were all looking up to me for answers, even when they could see, clearly that I was confused.
"call me doctor Moses" i shouted unnecessarily
"Tell him its an Emergency, he has a life to save" I added, hoping and praying that my patient's life was still around to be saved, and that minute I knew, that my medical career had gone up in flames.

I sat facing the senior surgeon and the short one, my colleague,
"what were you thinking Alex" the senior doctor said btw grinding teeth
"this is the 3rd time, how on earth did u scale through medical school and residency" he added

I had nothing to say, no way to defend myself but u had to say something
"I checked his MIP, his LD, his white blood counts too, his pressure was stable" I blabbed
"yes you did" the short one interrupted " but that had nothing to do with the mistake u made, you punctured his spinal nerves" he added
I stared at him with hate, no wonder he is short, I thought to myself

"he was losing a lot of blood, his blood was clotted, I tried to......." I kept quiet, I knew I wasn't making any sense
"Is he dead" I asked
" yes! you killed this one" the senior doctor replied

I stared at the senior doctor, my heart banging hard that I could hear my own pulse
"I am dead"

I was only lucky the hospital twisted the story for the public but they Still they made sure my life was ruined, they made sure my certificate to practise was rendered useless.
I packed my things and I submitted my patients files to the senior doctor
"You don't belong here Alex" he said " and you know it" he had added and I smiled

Of course I didn't belong there, I always wanted to be an actor, I love stages, I love talking, practicing talking, expressing myself through body movement, pretending to be a father to nine kids, a driver to a short rich man who has a tall wife and spiritual problems, a rich man who has 6 wives and the likes, I always wanted to be an actor and that was the only profession I loved.

But I was smart and intelligent, while in school, I was good In all my subject and my father felt it would be a waste of intelligence to go into acting, truly he didn't force me to go into the medical line but he made it sound like I would be a disgrace to man and God if I did otherwise, he made it sound and seem like I would be a disappointment to him if I ventured otherwise.

So I did what he wanted, wasted 6years in medical school, a year of service, and 7 years of residency doing something I despise, the more I did it, the less interested I get, but I kept doing it to please my father.

My father passed away four years ago and here I am, being chased after wasting the best years of my life.
As I drove my car out of the hospital, I faced the bar, I have been drinking a lot and I hope, I honestly hope that I won't spend the remaining years of my miserable life drinking.
