@OP, private schools are in grades. "Mushroom schools" like you call it cannot be compared to standard schools who do it right. A school that is government approved and has a good reputation to uphold won't have all of those issues you stated above. I teach at a private school and I don't have to worry about salary, being frustrated or taking 8 subjects (rolls eyes) plus I enjoy it. If you go into teaching because you just wanna earn something by pay day, chances are you would be frustrated.

've had series of GREAT experiences in d hands of mr 'Private school' o.DESPITE THE many challenges i faced with pivate schools. I have been able to visit foreign countries out of this teaching job,Been to Ghana, Tunisia, EGypt,and Azerbaijan.i got my 1st,2nd and3rd car out of this same teaching job,i got my first land in FCT out this same job.so do i call dat a total waste of time??,NO SIR, RARA, NMBANUNU!!, God has lifted me tru this Pivate sch and i sure know lots of university lecturers havent attained that feat yet,but its just been God.I have been really blessed via ds job.Lots of the kids i taught are in most nations of the wold today doing great and blessing me with all sorts of nice gift,Though i do not teach at a private sch again, but i can tell every one that its been a great experience woking with a private sch,they groomed me, moulded me and panel beated me into what i am today.If you aren't called into teaching,you might be pretty fustrated trying to practice it outside your field.God bless U all

I do get it that you are talking about the low paying private schools. After giving it so much thought you have the same basic problem of so many graduates.... the idea that you must be paid what you believe you are worth.....you must start from the top...or near to the top. Taking a teaching job in a low paying private school is not a career decision. It doesn't prevent you from applying for better jobs. It is not a job for you to be raising and saving money. The little money you make is just for you to barely maintain yourself. But at the same time you are gaining work experience that you cannot get sitting at home...you are gaining work experience that you can have on your resume when applying for a better job....you are having a record to show that after graduating you have been working and can easily adapt to another work environment... have the experience of working along with others....have patience since teaching requires patience....all of these would give you the advantage in getting a job over a graduate with a bit better grade than you....a graduate who has been sitting at home for 5 years waiting for a job that can pay him his worth...and now he has lost out to you with a lower grade. Any job is better than no job.... at the end of the month...even if you are left with N100...you earned it...better than begging for it.

I teach in a public school in lagos state how come am not wrectched(or my colleague that rented a flat for 400k.Abeg park far.say things and back it up with realistic points.Teaching in private school a times is a phase in ones life(It sometimes prepare some people for greater opportunities).The day I heard of a woman who had PhD(I received inspiration straight).

What do you mean by Cutoff mark for Education courses? B.sc(ed) is as difficult as any science course. For example a student studying B.Sc(ed) Chemistry,is offering courses in both pure chemistry and education(double honors). Never ever look down on Bsc(ed). And let me remind you no course is easy to study. Your determination is what counts.....Thanks

You are correct. One of my friends mum owns a big private school in PH. I remember a particular year she came to the UK for an educational seminar with 13 of her teachers . She paid for their visa applications, tickets and hotel

But then again, there are many schools with fees less than 5k per term and the school would have to even use every means possible like sending the kids home during exams to collect their fees as the economy is that bad, you wouldn't expect those schools to pay above 20k as salary.

But someone who is not lazy should take the job till something better comes his way, instead of sitting at home doing nothing.

Career killer except you are an educationist but from my observation, most graduates who ventured into this profession are not necessarily the needed educationists but due to they had no option other than to give it a trial besides getting your dream job in this country is mission impossible except u knw hw 2 play ur card very well. Its a dream killer profession with no motivation. My brother you wanna build house, marry, acquire landed properties, buy cars, and of course take care of your family and flex your wealth, not with this kind of profession. If anybody tells you, you have to start from somewhere, yes thats good but not when you remain in a particular position for 10years, no promotion. My brother run for your life..its not a career job.

It's not True, everything the Op said is correct, I'm talking from experience, I couldn't have time for myself and for my personal runs (which was my idea before i got the Job), I spent the money I made on Transport and clothes(trying to look good), I resigned within just a year. There are some exceptions thou, some schools have better standards, reward their teachers well and don't load them with too much works, but they are few.

On the contrary, it is actually public schools that gives you much time for other things, the demand is less and less pressure.Considering the situation in the country, I would advise you take this job if you had no better alternative, but if you're a man(bread winner) and you have a future ambition, DON'T STAY THERE FOR LONG.

l'm glad I made up my mind long ago that private schools teaching wasn't for. The pressure from family to apply to some of these "budding" private almost crushed me but I stood my ground. thank God today I ve landed my dream job. if u engage in this private teaching job, it takes the grace of God and serious connection to get some thing else. 'cos u will never have time to do a serious job search.
