Global Village Extra, a US-based online newspaper, has reported that president Muhammadu Buhari will sack Ibrahim Lamorde, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today.

The newspaper noted that the termination is not unconnected to a trillion naira fraud scam against the anti-graft commission’s chairman, which has tarnished the image of the agency.

Barring last minute changes, Ibrahim Lamorde may be fired by the Nigerian president today

One George Uboh, a petitioner who appeared before the Nigerian Senate committee yesterday, had alleged that Lamorde gave choice properties seized from former Bayelsa State Governor, DSP Alamieyesigha and others, to Usman Lamorde, his younger brother.

The petitioner also provided facts on how Lamorde allegedly diverted a massive N2.5trillion from seized properties and funds of individuals under investigation by EFCC.

It is now almost certain that the Nigerian president has approved the immediate sack and replacement of Lamorde, who will be probed immediately afterwards.

It would be recalled that some representatives of the agency were Wednesday, walked out of the meeting with senators

Do we need a soothsayer to tell us Lamorde would be sacked?

I hope the alleged looted funds would be recovered and necessary punishment meted out.

In replacing him and many like him, I pity PMB as it would be really difficult to find a corrupt-free former public office holder.

Lamorde deserves not just to be sacked, but prosecuted and punished for such audacity, how could the person we pay to fight corruption be diverting the proceeds of the effort for his own corrupt benefit? Jail should be his final destination if found guilty.
