Cos it just so common outside but really rare here. Our stomach/body tolerates just about anything.
I remember a relative of mine was trying to find allergy by force and so he said he's allergic to garlic and I looked hime like ' hmm, none of us like it, but it sure don't mean we can't stomach it; e be like say hunger nvr wire u well'

Hmm, seems almost like how a hungry man doesn't make choices at food. He eats whatever he's given.

Once you know what causes allergies in the first place, you will know why nigerians hardly have them.

allergies are caused by an overactive immune system with no job.

In Nigeria, no matter how powerful your system is, it will always have pathogens to fight. Hiwever, overthere, generations of overly clean environments have conditioned their immune system to suddenly decide that they will start attacking a specific item. grin

Hmm, so how do u relate ur theory to one that say allergic to cat hair?
It obviously has nothing to do immune system, its mere irritation.

yes, I dodged your question alright.
That's because I can't prove the answer I have.

I watched a BBC documentary on allergies and they linked the nasal cavity with the immune system. Implying that sneezing, which is a product of irritation, is the immune system trying to get rid of something in particular.

However, I can't quote that or post a link. embarassed
Bummer.

Hmm, u don't nowwit. What ur explaining is a particular kind of allergy. Allergies reactions may have to do within d body or outside the body.

You both are right....allergic reaction is what is known in medicine as hypersensitivity reactions of which there are 4 types. The most common that we can see as "mere irritation" is the type 1 and it is what is seen in asthmatic patients. It is also seen in holdhouse and everyday use items. It is rare but not that rare perse. Pple have it but most times it presents as skin rash and if you don't get exposed to it again and often, one may tend to overlook it. However, if it gets to cause serious complications like asthma does, then one seek medical help. I have seen pple reacting to leather, rings, even papers and all in Nigeria. Another issue is documentation and public awareness. As you knw in Nigeria if it is not ebola like disease or AIDS or typhiod, Nigerians feel it is not any illness worrying about.
Hope this help
