How much is your defence budget?
[if 1 Namibian Dollar equals 0.072 US Dollar]
N$7.2 Billion also equals to ZA 7.2 Billion Rand (N$1= R1) something like US$519 million
GDP equals to US$17.79 Billion(according to wiki)

M not usually good with numbers but i think i'm generally correct with the above numbers grin grin

And that budget includes everything from salaries to equipment purchases sad sad its less than education which is always 1st but more than health which usually comes 3rd which is why laymen complain..."defence being allocated more than health like we are at war shocked shocked"

I don't know who came up with the idea of saying the presidential flight is part of the air force on wiki...we both know the Government Air Transportation Services (GATS) is part of the Transportation Ministry not ministry of Defence...And i haven read anything yet that says the presidential flight has been moved to the Air force

Contrary to what Wikipedia says,we actually operate 12 K-8's...The three that the public always see are part of the acrobatics and display team...the rest are either on Standby or being used for training flights...So it's understandable that you might not have seen that specific aircraft beforeb
I checked up on SIPRI they also say Namibia bought 4 Ivchenko AI-25 turbofan engines from ukraine for 4 K-8 trainers....I mean if we got 4 turbo fans then we proly only got 4 K-8 right...logically that is huh huh...I think the whole 12 K-8 thing doesn't add up...JUST SAYING

Are there no white officers and men in the Namibian military?

When compared to the SANDF, they seem virtually non-existent.

Most of them simply resigned at induction during the independence process They are very few LIKE really few...I only know of a couple of colonels(The police by my opinion has more of than the military)...But u are correct they are virtually non existent...we don't do racial quotas here (Like ZA) we got regional quotas from each political region....Even our former president once came out urging them to enlist...But hey we are a free nation we cant put guns to their heads and force em to enlist...

Then we got government twisting the MoD's arm into lowering enlistment requirements at every opportunity it gets(The latest case was when children yes children of former SWAPO combatants were demonstrating against the ruling party as they wanted jobs as they are 'Struggle kids' i.e. born in Angola, Zambia amongst other countries that hosted SWAPO and a lot of them did not complete high school and some say their parents were killed during the border war so they never had a chance to be sent to school like other kidds and a lot of them were inducted in the military & correctional services this year(Ou ja and their parents the combatants did they same thing too in the '90's after they were not given jobs at independence and they got inducted as well) ).

Things like that have lead to the wide perception that the Military is for the uneducated only . Respect for the uniform(especially the army cammo) is not there generally...Lately its the Navy and Airforce that has brought some pride back because no matter what you simply cant take an uneducated individual and stick them in a cockpit or tell them to navigate a ship those two have kept high standards that am sure government wont sc*rew over grin grin.
And promotion is quicker aswell in the navy and air force as they are expanding....That's why u'll find 50 something year old privates in the army and a 20 something year old leading seaman in the Navy(There are instances of fathers who are private's and sons who are junior officer's huh huh)

Then i could also go on about the low salaries and its super low(it might have been sufficient elsewhere but not here, Namibia is expensive especially in Windhoek i feel for privates and NCO's posted in Windhoek) when it comes to NCO's that will never compete with the private sector plus the MoD is very poor with PR and the majority of people aren't even aware of the different mustering's one can branch into... (In short white people with their high income and better lifestyle wont wanna bother and waste their time ....but who knows perhaps with time they'll get to want to enlist )

Then there are racial divisions here though we can all downplay them

Here's a link to a news story of a CEO that joined the police as a reservist

http://www.namibiansun.com/crime/ceo-joins-police-reservist-ranks.54538

perhaps Gottfried might add

Pic1: Promotion to colonel shes a sports officer
Pic2: Another colonel with a private
Pic3: retired staff officer also a colonel

Some pictures from the new Karibib Air force base...
It's the largest in the country and is expected to house about 7000 Personnel...
The base is yet to be opened so there's no aircraft...But a few military personnel have already taken up residence in the barracks and have made use of the recreational Facilities...While there spotted 4 Agrale Marrua Special forces jeeps and about 6 Wolf Turbo II
