Over 100 alleged members of the Movement for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were on Sunday evening arrested by the police in Asaba, Delta state, for what was described as an unlawful assembly.
According to state police command’s spokesperson, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, the suspects were arrested in an undisclosed location within Asaba by a combined team of conventional and mobile policemen.
The arrest was followed by a tip off by concerned Nigerians, who have not being comfortable with the activities of the group and had last July written the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase.
The suspects were, according to sources, deeply enmeshed in the meeting discussion perceived to be unlawful agenda when the police swooped on them at gun point.

It was gathered that policemen stormed the meeting venue, said to be hide out of the group, in several Hilux vans, cordoned off the area and arrested the group members.
The police spokesperson, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, further said investigation has commenced but refused to disclose the area where the suspects were arrested, saying that the police were keeping it secret.
The group members were arrested inside the abandoned Asaba textile mill premises at the peak of their meeting where it was presumed to be sinister and unlawful, sources revealed.
One of the group members who escaped arrest, on condition of anonymity, said “I jumped through the fence on a head breath when I noticed policemen presence and they swooped on my other members, I do not know how they got the information that we were inside the premises where the gates were locked”.
