though Funny,but I would never forget the day I vex wrestle with one @yaba.
I was returning from campus(unilag) on getting to yaba they would just litter themselves among pedestrians and be harassing them to drop or get flogged.
though was just in an OK mood when this masquerade came pestering me,I know do like say I see am,next na if you move I beat you (though in Yoruba language) na there I vex say 4 here God punish you.so his cane touched me either intentionally or not I don't know.na so I drag him eku(masquerade clothe)push am for gutter filled with water.he rose again I repeated it and bragged to hit him with a wood I saw lying on the floor which I've picked.next RRS and passers by intervened that they are thieves.so I was appealed to to let things die off

This is so wrong. Arresting a masquerade and parading 'it' before newsmen, women and the uninitiated is an affront on our culture and destroying the sanctity of the institution. What happened to the famed fable of masquerades being spirrits and coming out of ant-holes?

I am not saying that some criminal elements have not hijacked this system for their criminal ends. What I am saying is; let masquerades be instructed to stop carrying canes, flogging people or begging for alms. Let a masquerade committee be set-up by the elders of every community and would-be 'masquerade-carriers' registered with them. Let no masquerade go beyond his community and every masquerade should be identified by a pice of item belonging to a particular community. These masquerades should not come out during working days and hours, so as not to intimidate women and children going about their businesses.

I hate masquerades eh .. One gave me the flogging of my life in 2013 during the Nwafor festival held every year in my village, dislocated my ankle while trying to escape. Wouldn't have travelled home if I had known it was Nwafor festival Period.. It was an experience I won't quick to forget
