Sometimes, I wonder If Nigeria can ever be a First world nation.
Characteristics of First world countries are:
1) Stable Electric Power Supply 24/7

2) High Standard Education institutions.

3) High employment rate and Low Corruption

4) Good and quality Infrastructures(roads, school, etc)

5) High Life Expectancy

6) Quality Health and Agricultural sector.

7) Low Crime Rate

cool Strong and Diversified Economy

9) Advanced Science and Technology

10) Strong Defence Forces and Good town planning.

Example of First World Countries- USA, Germany etc
Example of Second World countries- South Africa, India, Brazil etc

In your own view, can Nigeria be a First world country and WHEN?

Yep. We have the resources, we have the capability but we have the the wrong people at the front who call themselves leaders.
Nigeria is currently experiencing a growth miracle, but we are not able to effectively utilize our resources to cause economic development. Sad but true.
If Singapore could do it, why can't we?

Re: Can Nigeria Ever Be A First World Country? by Swaggzkid: 6:41pm On Sep 10, 2015
My answer is YES!

But wait before I continue, OP are you a harbinger?

I usually picture Nigeria in that angle, but we have a problem and our problem lies within us and we are the ones to solve that problem. If our so call politicians can desist from stealing. and go to office with a plain mind to move Nigeria forward, I swear with this bottle of guinness extra smooth on my table. Nigeria would have been robbing shoulders with the US and the likes...

If all the stolen money in Nigeria could ever be gathered and utilize from time immemorial back in 1963 when republic was declared till today as am typing. Nigeria won't have only been a first world country, but the richest country in Africa.

Would take years. We have taken the first step by voting in the Right Govt. At least, thats what APC wants us to believe.

Yes it can.

It starts from a systematic and structured approach to develop a framework to identify what the requisite sustainable amenities will make us a first world country.

It involves a cohesive approach to what the "Nigerian Vision" is. It includes studying other related countries who have broken the third world jinx; what did they do right? It involves answering the question: "What can we do to bring the world to us within a stipulated time frame".

It lies in effective Portfolio Management Strategies. You may read my article my article on the subject: https://www.nairaland.com/2515377/projectnigeria-proposed-mock-timelines-short

My 2 cents...

What is the meaning of First world country?
Nigeria is not a First world Country and can never be a First world country unless you invent a time machine to take us back to the pre-World War II.

BTW South Africa is a First world country.

With the corruption spread throughout the country, NO. Even children now is corrupt, you'll see a mother telling her son to lies to his father that his school fee is 50k instead of 25k. Parents prayers now is let my child get there ~ Imagine?.
With our many resources Nigeria is capable of turning into a developed country in a matter of a century, but a country where oil well is being distributed among themselves, and those block heads too just sit down and enjoy the free ribbons without even thinking what they can even do for the society. in fact I'm very angry with the silly mentality running in peoples head nowadays - money money money. see my thread https://www.nairaland.com/2564190/10-people-needed-partner-news

South Africa is a First world country. I don't understand what you mean when you say "have the potential to be a first world country". It is just like saying France is in Europe but has the potential to be in America. You are either a First world Nation or you are not.
Re: Can Nigeria Ever Be A First World Country? by VickJames(m): 7:20pm On Sep 10, 2015
To be sincere and candid, Nigeria cannot be a first world country because of the high dependency rate of most parts of the country. Many of these things you mentioned needs people who can work from the different parts of the country in cohesion.

The north and south have different ideologies on development, how can develop when two people have different ideologies? We will only continue to grow at this rate because that's what we can offer now.

I am not a tribal person, but when you look at the system present, you'll know that becoming a first world country will be difficult.
