jln115:See this guy o? Am I doing an academic research here? Or are you saying information on Wikipedia are completely useless? Yes many people contribute to it but very few are Zulus. So to some degree I believe the information it contains. The people that made the update must have some information just like I said I read it from another source too. Secondly, I said Nigerian military customise their equipments base on their needs and you won't get the full details online unlike you Zulus that buy what you don't need and can't even operate. we see pics of them everywhere not knowing you don't have pilots and sailors. Dondi. |

jln115:You don't know what you are posting dude ! That your photo is Super Lynx ASW, the Nigerian version is an older model called Lynx Mk.89 ASW, different models different names. You think those two big round discs outside the helicopter nose is a sonar? No, it's a radar and FLIR For SAAF super lynx, the radar is outside, but for NN Lynx Mk.89 the radar is inside the nose cone hidden, and the sonar is inside the cabin hidden behind closed doors. SIPRI says the Nigerian Lynx is Anti-Submarine Warfare and that settles it, your foolish ignorant and rettaaaarded opinion does not matter, a born fool will always be a born fool, white man with Zulu brain ! See the photo of Lynx anti-submarine helicopter below, does it look like the South African version you posted ? Mumu ! .

agaugust:Proof that nigeria has "dozens" of pilots who can land at sea No proof = trolling |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by patches689: 4:20am On Sep 11, 2015 |
agaugust:You said your navy has 400 vessels Post a citation to prove that |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by patches689: 4:23am On Sep 11, 2015 |
agaugust:1. Landing on a vessel is landing on a vessel 2. Bladea are spinning because it just landed. Consult henrys thread for more pictures 3. Yes, pictures of helicopters landing on and taling off from ships totally proved that - delusional clown 4. You have yet to post any proof relating to the number of qualified pilots nigeria has South African navy does not need a fleet air a because we are able to co-ordinate with SAAF. Your argument is beyond ludicrous |

agaugust:Citations posted by myself show that your platform has no sonar Stop wasting our time |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Nobody: 4:31am On Sep 11, 2015 |
agaugust:Listen retaaard that round disc houses the sonar !! The reason the Lynx in your photo doesn't have that nose housing is because at that time ASW helicopters were only fitted with sonobuoy/dipping sonars. secondly you havent provided any sources yet!! I want a link!! Lastly Modern ASW helicopters: (what do they all have in common?)

jln115:I told you pics and detailed info about our equipment are difficult to get. But the I know our ASW 109 used to destroy boko haram logistics recently and a weaponise super puma of the air force. Some alpha jets and even the some hinds were upgraded, MI 17,gazelle helicopters all tailored to meet their needs in the NE. Secondly everybody knows wiki is not reliable source of information for research work but not for argument like this on NL. Old pics of your jets when you had just nine pilots but now you have just six who can fly them. You don't have combat qualified pilots.

| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by iblawi(m): 8:24am On Sep 11, 2015 |
South Africa has only 6 pilot for Gripen not 9. They are even considering selling them. Four months after admitting that 12 of its 26 Gripen jet fighters had been placed in storage because they were too expensive to operate and there were not enough qualified pilots to fly them, South African officials admitted that the maintenance contracts for all the Gripens had expired in April. That made long term use of the Gripens dangerous. This contract was with a reliable, and expensive, South African firm (Denel). The maintenance contracts pay for ongoing support for the aircraft to include updates and warnings on problems other users have encountered as well as access to manufacturer engineers and maintenance experts. Aircraft become more dangerous to operate (if they operate at all) without regular maintenance and these maintenance contracts are a critical part of that. Some South African politicians are now calling for the Gripens to be sold, as there is not likely to be sufficient money to operate them and retain qualified pilots. Currently only about half of the remaining 14 Gripens are flyable and there are only six qualified Gripen pilots. Corruption, shrinking defense budgets, and political pressure to find more black combat pilots and technical personnel has led to the South African Air Force having fewer operational aircraft. All this has been going on for over a decade. For example, back in 2009, the South African Air Force stopped automatically releasing data on how many hours combat pilots flew for training. When the numbers were finally obtained, it was discovered that in 2008, fighter pilots were in the air for 325 hours (less than two hours a month per pilot). In contrast, pilots on VIP flights (carrying politicians and government officials) were up there 1,932 hours. There are about fifty transports and 80 helicopters in the air force at the time, and that number has continued to shrink. https://www.strategypage.com/dls/articles/South-Africa-Loses-Use-Of-Its-new-Gripens-8-18-2013.asp I hope this source is reliable. Nigerian airforce is far better than your SAAF. |

iblawi:Dude!!! Do think im going to believe you, just because you told me so? Can you prove that your hind were upgraded?...No you cant!! Can you prove that you upgraded your alpha jets?...No you cant. Secondly Wikipedia shouldn't be used in any circumstance when trying to debate an argument. And strapping rocket pods onto your puma and gazelle doesn't make them "customized" we can do that to, with our Oryx. Lastly do you have any logic and common sense? how can we have 9 pilots then all of a sudden 6 according to you? OH and BTW we had 14 Gripen pilots in 2013!! sources have been provided multiple times. |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Nobody: 8:46am On Sep 11, 2015 |
iblawi:Old and outdated source!! http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=31821 Some of the South African Air Force’s fleet of 26 Saab Gripen fighter jets will not be placed in storage but will rather be flown on a rotational basis, according to an Air Force official. Earlier this year it was reported that 12 Gripens had been placed in storage. 18 Gripen aircrew (navigators and pilots) have been trained up to operational status to date and 52 Hawk aircrew have been trained so far. thus 26 Gripens in total - 12 Gripens in storage= 14 operational thus = 14 pilots!! in 2013 |

jln115:Soweto Nation of clueless hopelessness strikes again! Since the start of this month with 24 SA Air Force (SAAF) members now undergoing extended training in various aviation-related disciplines in the island republic. That the airborne arm of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) has its personnel problems, particularly in high-level skills sectors such as pilots, navigators and aircraft technicians, is common knowledge. It was again raised, albeit briefly, by defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula at AFB Waterkloof two weeks ago. She was briefing the media on aspects around the charter of a bizjet owned by a Gupta-owned company that flew Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and a small entourage to and from Japan. She indicated approaches had been made by former SAAF members keen to sign up again and also mentioned collaboration with Cuba on training. Department of Defence head of communications, Siphiwe Dlamini, confirmed this week that 24 SAAF members were now in Cuba. “There are four SAAF members undergoing pilot training over a four year period and five members undergoing air traffic control training over a two year period. Another eight SAAF members are undergoing aviation engineering over a six year period and a further seven are doing three year aviation technical training courses. The courses commenced on September 1. “The aim of the initiative is to increase co-operation and working relations between the Revolutionary Army of Cuba and SANDF in the spirit of improved co-operation as well as the promotion of military to military relations between the two countries,” he said. The SA Army, specifically its vehicle maintenance section, has had about 100 Cuban mechanics and diesel specialists in its ranks since February as part of a technical agreement between the Caribbean island country and South Africa. They are working alongside South African maintenance personnel on Samil vehicles to create an internal pool of technical skills in the SANDF, Dlamini said at the time. “This will enable the defence for to properly service and maintain its vehicles,” he said during a visit to a military vehicle maintenance workshop in Potchefstroom. In April SANDF spokesman Brigadier General Xolani Mabanga said 25 students who planned on making their careers in the SA Military Health Service (SAMHS) were currently studying medicine in Cuba. |
