Daily Fuel Subsidy Drops To N1.07 Billion by emamos(op): 11:31am On Sep 13, 2015
The Federal Government’s daily spending on petrol subsidy may have dropped from the N2.4 billion it recorded in June to N1.07 billion as at Monday last week, The Guardianreports.
Specifically, the country’s daily subsidy per litre of fuel has decreased from the N51.61per litre it recorded on June 11 to N22.42 per litre.
The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), which made this disclosure on Monday in its pricing template , put the expected open market price of the product at N109.42.
Based on daily petrol consumption of 48 million litres, the total subsidy cost on the product as of September 7, would amount to N1.07 billion at N22.42 per litre.
The landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, has also dropped from N123.12 per litre to N93.93, while the Expected Open Market Price declined from N138.61 per litre to N109.42 per litre.

Going by this news ,it means all along there is a phenomenon called subsidy . Mr President once said he doesn't know anything called subsidy. Meanwhile in one interview prof Tam David West said subsidy is a scam. Now it is clear that subsidy is real.

More so it is clear that the reduction in subsidy amount payment is not primarily because of corruption but because the landing cost of petrol due to crude oil price fall.
This information is good.

Nigeria's daily consumption of petrol is between 30-40 million litres (not 48 million). I expect the subsidy to be even lower - somewhere around N700m.

If not for Exchange rate dynamics, subsidy should be non existent right now.

Your interest was to be first to comment . Read again and you will see that the article confirm two things :1 that there is subsidy as against APC and Mr President claim that subsidy regime was a scam. 2. That because crude oil price fall globally hence fall in landing cost of petrol. Good morning.

Subsidy was never 100% removed , Even several people said the fact that the refineries in Nigeria are being upgraded does not mean Nigeria won't import petrol for now .

That said , Subsidy payments was abused there was the case of a Senator's son or so who was paid 1 trillion by GEJ , upon verification, the company address , name or profile did not exist

That case was killed, so paying exorbitant fees to non existent companies and inflating prices is the problem with subsidy

Hopefully the refineries will continue working and the subsidy will be reduced until Nigeria has world class refineries of it's own

Government is not subsidising petroleum but the increase in dollar rate.
If the production were to be right here in Nigeria or something got us back to the days of $1:160NGN then there would be no subsidy.

Kudos to Ibe Kachukwu
