My only sympathy is that the man may not have planned for the extra two children. However, it is something a simple scan of less than N1000 would have shown. Had that happened, its extremely unlike the woman would have had complications which has warranted much of the expenses.

I feel bad for the couple but they cannot say what govt gave them is too small. If they cannot take care of all three babies, they can put one or two up for adoption.

Truth is the UK is already having problems with that. Tax payers are complaining about how they have to pay to take care of the children of lazy bums who prefer not to work but just keep having children so they can collect more money. It has breed a generation of lazy people who are having children they don't care about or take good care of just so they can collect more money. It's wrong to reward people for irresponsibly having more children than they can afford to raise. Not everyone is guilty of that but many are, you see beggars on the road yet after sometime you'll see the woman pregnant again and again because they know children gain sympathy. They neglect those children and they later become a problem to society

Really?

The Government owes a duty of care to this man and his family.

For starters, the medical bills should have been sorted out by the government if we had a responsible Government in place. Without those bills, this man would have been 200 thousand Nairaland richer than he currently is.

Some form of assistance should be given to this man. Not just because he has twins, but because he is a Nigerian.

Guy, I tell you if you encounter some of them and their mentality, all form of sympathy will dry up. To many of them, children is more of a status symbol, or pawns to gain sympathy. They don't see them as priceless, beautiful gifts from GOD that should be nurtured, educated and catered for. Hence you'll a tomato seller having 7 children, NONE in school.

My organisation has been invloved with them so I know. We provide education on the need to have smaller, and even contraceptives FREE of charge through the UNFPA program. Yet, many refuse. Even if the women are willing to use some form of birth control, the man will have none if it. And so, depressingly, you see them churning out children like rabbits. . .

How about government implements a "we make live easier and citizens give back part of their earnings" approach.

Its not a calamity to give birth,neither is it a calamity to give birth to triplet! This circumstances only become a calamity if you do not have plans to cater for what you are getting into and things go wrong in the process!
