![]() I've had similar experiences in Oshodi, Iyaniba, Maryland and Satellite town. It is more with middle-aged Yoruba women. Most of them are barely educated and hardly speak pidgin English. They will first stare at you in a hostile manner, even after greeting them (maybe they expected me to prostrate). Despite my experience, I did not generalize, but I concluded that Lagosians are hostile to strangers. I noticed that I get better direction from nicely dressed men. |

kingreen:my brother you are a conquered tribe. you don't realize that you are under siege. This should worry you. The Hausas from the north "Illorin", the Igbos from the East "Lagos" axis. Lagos is an occupied territory. Remember the sun rises from the East and only sets in the West. You are under occupation. you are like the Palestanians under Jewish occupation. Your homes and your fathers graves have been bought by the Igbos. The agenda is working. |

vicadex07:The agenda is working. Do you know how many Igbos that come to Lagos to live and do business? in thousands everyday and they dont go back. Igbos have the same right with Ekiti person in Lagos state. we are all visitors to lagos. the Nigerian constitution does not recognize tribe but state. The agenda is working |
| Re: Why Do Yorubas Show Strangers Wrong Way When They Ask For Direction by vicadex07(m): 2:51pm On Sep 16, 2015 |
Balkan:Of course na, but what happens after u get biafra...remember Lagos is in the heart of the South West and not like all those small Niger delta communities that you wanna snatch for the Niger delta people. Before back up reaches Lagos, all Ibos in Lagos would have been long drowned in the lagoon. ![]() |

vicadex07:This here is a concrete proof that you people reason totally different from us. What has greetings got to do with speaking the truth Isn't a greeting supposed to be voluntary again? The woman could have simply told him that he was disrespectful and should greet her first, if not she would not direct him. Simple. At least the guy would know that she is not helping him (for whatever reason, for which she is entitled). Giving him the wrong direction is PURE EVIL. Take it or leave it. |

carnegiefan:There is something we call "common sense" Am sure Ibo people lack it if you claim to reason the way you just did. That's why you're the only unfortunate tribe to proclaim Lagos as no mans land despite that you're not the only visitors there. Now read this all over again and apply common sense this time. Am not exonerating the old woman, am just trying to explain what her perspective might have been since we were both not there at the time of occurrence...heck she might have innocently misunderstood the guy also. All this thread is based on assumptions...right from the OP But this here is certain You don't feel like greeting...and you need favour? |

vicadex07:that is probably a grt misconception from u. condemn evil, don't excuse it. no reasonable fellow comes 2 a strange land, where he depends on people's direction & start approaching them rudely. what kind of greeting does yorubas expect from a stranger? for him 2 prostrate b4 he's qualified 4 a help? yorubas especially those in Lagos r very rude 2 strangers & this is what u gt from people that don't travel out. Ibo man will even hospitalize u knowing well that he has relations outside. |

Balkan:maybe your friend didn't greet the elderly woman well,at least bend down his head a bit if he can't prostrate and she answered him with sarcasm. Yorubas do it a lot,if you don't greet them well, assuming you ask a woman: Stupid guy : Mama, ejo o,nibo ni mo le gbe eru yi si . meaning; mama pls, where do I put this load Old Woman : oo gbe si mi lorii . Meaning: oh,you can put it on my head Stupid guy : Mama, Ore mi loni ki n gbe wa si Ile ohun. Meaning ; Mama, my friend told me to bring it to his house (meanwhile, the guy is already in front of his friend's house) Old woman: O, omoo mi daadaa, oti koja ibe e,waa gbe okada pada si ona ibi to tin bo nii . Meaning ; Oh,my good son, you've passed through that area, take okada and go along the place you're coming from |
