Calling to remind them of being the best person for the Job? Really!!!! Showing being the best for the Job could have being done in the test and interview, so no need over flogging it before one is seen as being desperate. I believe one could call to know if the selection was over or not so as to get one's mind off it and if God so will it for the unconnected, one will nail the job from the interview stage. All the interviewers will submit their findings&others but the call to convince is to one person, so I personally think the call should be one of inquiry.

Interview is not a runway, dress sharp and don't be to loud,
change your accent ,
speak without any tribal intonation popping out,
if you can borrow a car ,this helps when negotiating salary, be very confident but not over confident,
don't slouch ,
don't fold your arms ,
don't form familiarity ,
be observant ,
don't brag ,
don't be religiously biased

nice one OP. The most important thing is to be confident, smart n articulate while answering interview que. try to be bold n look directly into the interviewers eyes.A friend of mine who is a nursing mum, recently attended an interview, few seconds before she was called in, sb whispered to her ears that one side of her shirt has been soaked with breast milk upon she fixed some breast pads.Hmmm! she cudnt help buh felt embarrassed n of course, there was nothing she cud do at that moment as it was her turn to get interviewed. When she walked in, dey all looked at dat part of her shirt cos it was so obvious buh that didnt move her at all instead she pretended as dou nothing happened to her.She answered her ques. perfectly well, so boldly n with smiles on her face.To cut d story short, immediately she got home that day, she received a success text. She told me she had lost hope even dou deep down in her heart, she knew she performed well. she was soooo happy. The bottom line of everything is dat she had God n luck on her side. So, if is God's will dat u will pass an interview, no matter wat, u will.Success to us all.

Never Forget To Follow Up

Some interviewers hate it when you bug them with call. I tried this once and the response was harsh,Besides, it shows desperation on your own part.

I understand your point. However, calling/emailing an interviewer to thank them & also re-emphasize that you're the best person for the job keeps you at the top of their mind. That way if they still haven't decided on a candidate, you might help them decide.

Good luck!

That is a guess work. You really can't tell what trigger the interviewer to contact or employ you.

I went for an interview where I argued with them that I was under scored. Instead of 18, I was given 15. I knew because we were given our answer sheet back. They said I was wrong I told them I know my mathematics very well that the answer can't be wrong. The interviewers were just looking at me with my level of confidence about it.

My other colleague were asking me to stop that I might loss the job with my behavior. I didn't mind them but continue to fight till I prove myself correct. When I got home, I was regretting my actions. In my heart, " I don fuckup. Why I nor just keep shut".

5days later I got a call to resume without passing the other stages. I can't really tell what action gave me the job.

Most time you can't really say what make the interviewer consider you fit for the job.

I went to one interview recently but i looked like their CEO.

The interviewer was a young South Korean guy in a well known South Korean company.

I didnt drive cos it was in PH and i travelled from Abj. He asked me the mode of transport i got there, i said flight and he said "you mean you flew" demonstrating with his hands. He was surprised why i wanted to join them leaving my present job especially since i can afford to fly locally.

He asked me that me judging by my physique ans the suit i wore (am heavyly built by God) if i am sure i wanted to come join thier stressfull job leaving the Abj one.

I guess the guy was trying to tell me they only need graduate trainee. Of course i never got their call but the other young girl who we got referral from the same person and who just finish NYSC got called.

P.S: its not a suit wearing company, its engineering. Oboy i was uneasy and obviously overdressed.

Still, if they don't have one in mind, no two ways about it except Grace. As they can't remember much of a person if the interviewed are much, one reason they take note of their preferred candidates based on competence during interview. Like my friend that attended an interview of 35 candidates after a test that pruned thousands of people, though he got the job, a Graduate Trainee, he got it by putting a classic performance in the interview as he never called the HR. If every body calls the HR to show why they are the best, then it leaves that the HR battery would run down faster and all of them would be employed, hence no need for interview as some are bolder, composed and well articulate on phones than Physical. Some opportunities once lost can't be regained. Above all, it's God!

My present got was got by connection. I even recognized a CV of someone I know who applied for same job I got, and I never knew the position was advertised!
But I had an edge over most people that applied. I believe that's why I was sought out.

8 Things You Must Avoid At An Interview

Interview sessions are supposed to be occasions for prospective employees to showcase their skills and why they deserve to be employed, however, for most job seekers this opportunity is usually flunked because many candidates inadvertently shoot themselves in the leg by doing what they are not supposed to do or otherwise.

So, what are some things you must avoid at an interview? We will look at 8 of such things to avoid in order for you to ace your next interview session.

1. Dressing wrongly

Experts say that 65% decisions are made about you based on how you dress and appear. Interviews are formal occasions and you must dress formally and look like someone who means business. Though ‘formality’ does not necessarily mean wearing shirt, tie and suit; but it does mean looking smart and fit for the job or position you are applying for. So the next time you attend an interview, make sure you look like you mean business.

2. Not well groomed

True, your dressing is part of grooming, but it is much more than dressing. It encompasses your total outward look. As a male, your hair needs to be well cut and trimmed. As a lady, you shouldn’t wear a multi-colour hair for interviews. Also watch out on your colour combinations, there mustn’t be any riot. As much as possible, keep your colour combinations within 2 colours, but not more than 3 at the maximum. A simple Google search for ideas on colour combinations can help.

3. Arriving late for interview

This will definitely score you low. If you arrive late for interview, it will be assumed that you don’t have regard for time and that is how you will be coming late for work should you be employed. Make sure you take time to know where your interview will take place before the day. Arrange everything you will need at least a day prior to the interview day. If need be, set alarm so you can wake up early and finish on time to leave the house. You don’t want to take chances if you leave in a place like Lagos where traffic hitch is the order of the day.

4. Lying

It is common practice for some people to lie about quite a number of things during interview so they could secure the job. But it is better to remain on the side of honour and integrity and miss the job than to lie and get it, because sooner or later the wind may blow and your lies would be found out. And then you would be sacked for lying and deceiving your employer. If you do not meet the age or qualification requirement, then don’t apply and if you do, just tell them the truth about what you truly possess, that may even be the reason they will employ you.

5. Slanting your current boss or employer

No matter where you work, you will always come across people who step on your toes. People can do things that are even unethical and sometimes, they can really get on your nerves. But mal-aligning those during an interview will be your ‘Achilles hills’. Unwittingly, you are sending a signal to this prospective employer that you will do the same to them should you want to leave their company. Watch it!

6. Not knowing some basic information about the company

How can you claim to want to work for an organisation and you know nothing about them? It is almost certain that one of the questions you would be asked during an interview is, “What do you know about this company?” And if you say you don’t know anything about the company, then you are not qualified to work there. Visit their website if they have one. Read about them, when it was established, what landmark achievements they have, and their current staff strength. Get to know their vision/mission statements and core values. These are things that show you really have interest in the company.

7. Being too nervous or too confident

The two are alike working in opposite directions. Being too nervous shows lack of confidence and being too confident shows a sign of arrogance. You need to create a balance by being cool headed. Answer questions simply without over embellishing. And also being too confident may seem you are not a team player; someone who might be bossing everyone around without listening to others’ opinions.

8. Being rude

It is likely that in some instances there will be people in the interview panel you are older than or more qualified than. However, that is not a reason to be rude to them. At this point, your age and qualification don’t matter. What matters is to be humble and respectfully respond to questions posed to you. If you find yourself being rude, apologise politely and move on. Also do not get too close with members of the panel. Just be polite and friendly.
