Welcome to the thread, stolid.

My advice is that you should properly read the websites of the schools that you are shortlisting.
Be sure of the nature of the programs they are offering. Some departments are not research
oriented, some are large, others are small. If you are aiming for a PhD, you should make sure that the departments you are looking at are research oriented programs.

Be careful with online reviews. Everyone writes a review based on their own experiences. Read the website of the school yourself, search for their alumni on linkedin and see what positions
they are in. Also, contact the department and ask questions about the research, internship and funding opportunities. Masters degree are rarely funded because it is not much of great investment to the department to fund MS students. Funding goes to top students that are applying to the Masters program. A department I mailed said they fund only the top 10% while another said they have 25 GA positions and 45 students. Most PhD are funded since the student would spend a considerable amount of time with them, doing good and comprehensive research and improving the research reputation of the institution.

For your GRE, you should give it your best. There is a GRE facebook group where you will meet smart minds that can help improve your readiness for the test. Make sure your quant score is as high as 160.
For funding, it comes through graduate assistantships (GAs) which are tough to get but not impossible. A lot here have got them as entrants in different schools while others get a percentage of the tuition funded. The best information you can get is by mailing the graduate coordinator of the program you are applying to.

There are other parts of your application you should give a lot of thought to like your Personal Statement. Also, get good letters of recommendation too. Lastly, you should get a very good resume.
Wish you luck.

Hello everyone, I really must commend you all for your very informative and insightful posts here. This is the Nigeria Nigerians crave, but the media won't capture.

Anyway, I'll like to know what the Job prospect is like for Environmental Engineers in the U.S. I've read online reviews, and most seem to be dissuading. I have a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, but would like to major in Environmental Engineering; it's where my strength lies. However, I'm ready to give it some thought if it turns out seemingly an unpropitious choice.

Also, I'll be writing the GRE in three weeks, and saying I'm still very much unprepared would be an understatement. I've got the following schools in mind:

University of Cincinnati
New Mexico Institute of Mining and Tech.
University of Wyoming
Texas A & M, Kingsville

Given I'm not as rich as most of you lol, I'll be needing some sort of funding. I do not have stellar grades, but I hope to do pretty okay in the GRE. I have a CGPA of 3.83/5. Do you think these schools are relatively safe, and should fund? I've made my enquiries but would still need firsthand information, pardon me.

Special shout out to Slimmy05, Imperiouxx, Sirriddy, Bigfrancis21, Walspring, Ebdib, MsNas, Profojah, Dicapino, and in fact, everyone lol! You lots don't know how much I know about you. cheesy

Welcome on board and you need proper preparation to prevent poor performance since you are new here.

Also you can't go directly for medicine, you have to do pre medicine first before you start medicine..

Also you will need to write SAT 2 which is just about subject test..

Greetings,I was at d embassy in abuja this morning for my interview. after d long conversation which I Will post later the lady issued me d Yellow paper that d embassy will get back to me.my school resumes 5th October. please can anyone advise on my chances of getting d visa.

Actually the VO told you he/she haven't see that type of visa before and if I am not wrong that is the reason why you are given the yellow paper.

Trust me if the visa is real and issued by Denmark you will be granted visa without any delay but if it's not the reverse is the case

They are standardize test being writing by international student seeking admission into a university or college abroad, it is advisable to write any one of them especially when u are undergraduate u can write TOEFL or SAT and combination of both aint bad at all if u get the cash.
Check the your school requirement for undegraduate international student so as to start gathering your docs
