Where are all the great akokites, great oau and the rest of the not so great greats. The day government stops giving students of public universities scholarship to subsidize the miserly school fees been paid , is the day universities will rise. Government should fund research and each university should be a center of excellence in at least one field while being self sufficient in raising revenue. The only university in Nigeria that is getting it right is pan Atlantic university. They are trying hard to become a management center of excellence with their Lagos business school. They have strong affiliations with reputable schools and they also teach using the case study method used by Harvard. Covenant is also doing a lot of work in this regard. Endowment funds from alumni and Executive education courses such as advanced management programs can raise serious money for public unis which they can use to fund research, seek international affiliation and improve teaching methods. It is plain irrational that an average primary school fees in Lagos is more expensive than the chicken change public uni students have to pay. Education may be cheap but quality education is expensive cos of continuous research and publications required . Unis have to be self sufficient enventually. Harvard and MIT are private unis

This is a big disgrace on us. Where do we even start from? we need serious restructuring of our education system. the earlier the better

For most online courses.....especially postgrad....you have to show some evidence of previous qualifications, including JAMB..and your undergraduate degree.

And if you think JAMB is hellish.....try their Chinese and Japanese equivalents.....especially the chinese one...where you have to start prepping from their equivalent of primary 5 (slight exaggeration). At least my JAMB prep started 10 months to the thing.

The money the govt give to these universities for development, have you ever asked yourself how the money is being used considering the deplorable condition of our universities?. Where are those stupid professors who knows nothing but to bully students and intimidate them? Their researches aint internationally recognised and they pride in their achievements of previous years. They contribute nothing new! Finishing on time in Nigerian schools is difficult coz lecturers will witch-hunt you or delay you unnecessarily. Abroad, things are easy, yet their meticulousness and academic standard cannot be compared with ours.

Sound universities around the world adopt a uniform platform for checkmating copy & paste syndrome in research work. Here, you can even submit your brother's 'already graded thesis' and still get your A.

Here, you can download a research work in Liverpool, submit to a Federal University and get your MSc degree.

Not surprising. Our universities will always be shite because the powers that be are not directly concerned, nor affected. It is more logical to a thieving politician to steal money (meant for the education of the people that elected them in the first place) and send their kids to schools in Ghana, Egypt, Turkey or the UK, than to develop their own universities in Naija.

The really bad thing is that it is a vicious circle: poor universities churning out poor graduates who are then taken back as lecturers and the circle repeats ad nauseam. Obviously not to mention those that go into the greater population as "graduates" and who continue to plant the seeds of the mediocrity that is so well-known in the typical Nigerian psyche.

The country with the largest POPULATION and ECONOMY in Africa does not have ONE university good enough to feature amongst 700 in the WORLD.
