Use your head. Ask China if it can not fire a missile.
No need for that your defense chiefs told us already you have low availability of your obsolete aircraft and the fact that it cannot fire any precision weapons.

See children of your colonial fathers.
We see south africans who carry our passports. You lot always jump to tribal or racial antics whenever you can't win an argument. Europe and the USA has the most diverse numbers of immigrants yet they call them self by the country they are born in.

You need to stop grow up

It would be even greater if African countries can get together and put away petty nationalistic ideologies and start a single African Aerospace Company and develop there own systems.
A single Aerospace and Defence company like EADS would be great for this Continent. Problem is, would politicians put away their nationalistic ideologies....... This is were we are going to have multiple bottle-necks.

On a business level, Africans can cooperate, although trade between African countries is still low, excerpt for Nigeria-South Africa trade which has been growing well for the past 5-7 years.

Apart from commonality, it makes sound economic sense. I mean look at the Eurofighter Program, Spain (a small partner) which makes the left wing of the Plane, would build all the left wings for all orders of the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Economically....... This is just perfect for the Spanish economy and the jobs that would be and have been provided.

Nexter and the German tank manufacturer are about to become the world's largest MBT manufacturer. A win-win for France and Germany.

This is the first sensible post you have made so far on this thread, congrats!.
The idea of an AAC is a very brilliant one, however Africa only has a few countries that are emerging centres of technology while others haven't even matured in terms of technical skills: this creates difficulties in technology sharing, coupled with individual nationalistic goals{nationalistic ideologies arent 'petty'}.
I think even if such a development is going to happen,it will be a collaboration between elite african nations; Nigeria,Egypt,South Africa,Algeria, and Ethiopia{and perhaps Morroco}.

Low availability of what?

We currently have more combat aircraft and pilots than South Africa. So what is the low availability about.

He didn't even mention F7. If 3 F7 crashed of of 15 we still have 12. shocked sad grin
have you even asked how many gripen jets do we have and how many hawks jets do we have.

SA has 26 gripen jets with full service plan from our local SAAB and 24 hawks jets while Nigeria has only three F7 jets. Is that what you call more?

Now that the anti-terrorism war is finally winding to a halt{though the military will have to undergo complete transformation and always be on alert from now on},it is time for the military to tackle the dissenting miscreants down south: all these radio biafra,IPOB and pirate/MEND ruffians should be completely neutralized before they cause any major disturbance.
Amnesty is only a temporal money-draining measure, the only language that violence understands is force; a country like Nigeria shouldnt allow fragments of radical movements to sprawl dormant all over the nation,we have too many international rivals, overzealous "friends" and enemies who would use them as tools for destabilization to great effect.
due to our history and demographics, i think we should accept it already that the armed forces will be part of our national life as long as Nigeria exists. It will be part of our lives just as the military is part of the American, Isreali, North Korea and Russian life. It is incumbent in us to try to take the military very seriously.

Look at the Meteor missile project work was shared among European nations. That can't happen on our continent.

Exactly!,it is time to restore the military and advance its capabilities in order for it to be an instrumental institution for the enforcement of our foreign policy and national integrity.President
Obasanjo did what was best at the time by stripping the military of its powers and crippling its capabilities, but it is now time to pick up on the next phase of our national advancement by re-arming and empowering the military.Nigeria has far far advanced beyond the stage of military coups and overzealous juntas,we have nothing to fear anymore, our political institution is now well matured and advanced.

if any aspect of our national life can be down, it shouldn't be these three areas: a social culture that works for its people, a robust economy that benefits majority of its people and a strong military to back it up.

UMKHONTO MISSILE PROVIDING AN ALL ROUND 360 DEFENCE AGAINST AIRCRAFTS, CRUISE MISSILES AND SEA SKIMMING MISSILES. AS PROVEN AND TESTED. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPEED, ONLY HAS MORE TO DO WITH WHERE IT MEETS OR ENGAGE THE TARGET.

Umkhonto missile is a multi purpose SAM. Call it the way you want because it can shoot down missiles as well and it has been proven.

SA is also the only African country that a has the legal rights to upgrade and service all MI helosgrin
All Mi-35 owners have legal right to service it at home if they have engineers, upgrade is allowed if they have experts.

SA just got commercial licence to do the work as profit making venture, that the difference.

Nigeria services her Mi-35 at home with our own NAF technicians, and we fabricate some spare parts locally for it.

In your case you can't comprehend the simple fact that an enemy submarine presence in Nigerian waters would move your armed forces/navy from being proactive to being reactive at sea.

Giving the opposing enemy navy full control of events at sea.

Causing your navy to divert massive resources/equipment to hunting an elusive sub or protecting high value targets/warships/oil installations.

Nigeria has no anti-submarine capability.
Nigeria has reserved anti-submarine capability on Lynx helicopters and NNS Aradu itself having her ship sonar and torpedoes.

South Africa has been proved to have submarines but zero anti-submarine capability.

If you send submarines to threaten a country, you also miss the use of that submarine in you own home, travelling far to attack leaves you exposed at home with less defensive capability.

The size of the navy you attack with submarine, actually matters, for example Nigeria has the biggest navy in Africa with about 400 vessels.

Too many platforms are available to Nigeria to hunt and sink a submarine, it is delusion and ignorance for a South African diesel-electric engine submarine to be called elusive.....only a nuclear power engine submarine can be truly elusive.

Diesel submarine will be forced to snorkel in 2 days or else battery power dies and it will sink to sea bottom.

With powerful coastal radars, coastal TV cameras, ATR-42 surveyors, Beechcraft 350 ER, Diamond ISR aircraft, armed CH-3 drone, armed stealth Catamaran IPV with echo sounder underwater object detectors, armed high speed ocean interceptor with radars and FLIR, Alpha jets and Mi-35 helicopters.....your snorkeling submarine will be found and killed after 2 days underwater, it must part-surface to snorkel and death will came that hour !

It's hard to fight a major African power like Nigeria, it's very hard, Nigeria has too many things to throw back at the enemy.
