There are a lot of myths and misconceptions that the society attaches to people living with albinism. In some communities, it is a common belief that a child born with albinism is conceived when a woman has intercourse while she is menstruating, also some communities believe that albinism is a punishment or a curse from the gods or the ancestral spirits due to wrong done in the family. It is a fact that albinos face discrimination and stigmatization, for instance, you cannot be accepted into the military or paramilitary as an albino. The condition predisposes them to skin diseases like cancer and poor vision due to the absence of melanin. Albino children are often made jest of in school. In some parts of Africa like in Tanzania they are highly sort after for the effect parts of their bodies have in preparing black magic portions. Recently, a young albino male in his early twenties committed suicide in Lagos, he left behind a suicide note stating the reason for his action was due to depression caused by his condition.

Well i know a good number of military folks who have poor eye sight.

That's a situation in TANZANIA and parts of Southern African Countries.
NOT Nigeria or West African countries, we treat our Albino children like our other children.
Not a curse, not isolation, Albinism has been normalized in west african communities, we are not stupid like our tanzanian neighbours.

You need to be more empathetic to their plight, if you were an albino or had an albino sibling, relative, friend or child you won't be saying this.

I feel for them, I have a few albino cousins and I treat them the same as anyone else in my family.

At the end of the day it shouldn't matter whether your light/dark skin. I find them to be beautiful people.

First, Albinism in whites can often be concealed by makeup, hair dye etc. Second, certain gene alleles that are associated with Albinism in Black people are considered normal for whites and don't count as Albinism in them. One could even say that all whites are actually suffering from a particular type of Albinism.
