A Lesson To Anyone Who Wants To Hire Anyone From Nairaland/online by Adenugay(op):
I know people do not read newspaper again and they hate long article like this one. You can just go to Lessons part because of future purposes if you want to hire anyone from nairaland/online

I do not think I need to introduce myself that much. I am just that plain shit internet entrepreneur always on the move, and thinking so hard since I was 18, looking for the next big thing, to put mine few chillings and kobos on. Right now I can say I am highly blessed.

So few weeks back. I got another idea. I wanted a tech blog. I know, right from the beginning, I am a very bad writer. As seen, I cannot make a sentence without making a mistake. LOL. To get a writer, I know nairaland is full of young potentials, and I love dealing with young minds like myself. So I posted the conditions/ and the the amount we are ready to pay >>>> you can check the link at >>> https://www.nairaland.com/2532134/3-part-time-writers-needed-tech

I was not surprise that alots of people indicated, I got alots of emails more than 70 at my last count. The hurdles was to choose the best from them. Well I got some three people after asking them some questions about dedication and the price. I took my time to give them a little training about wordpress because it is obvious the three of them were new to the platform.

The beginning was okay, later some of them skip days without writing any article and no excuses being sent to me, most times I am forced to send them an email to query time.

And there is this one thing in my policy, any new employer must be paid 50% of initial payment of the amount agreed upon for as a salary. especially since it is an online stuffs, this will help in creating trust and make them more dedicated.

I promised to always send them their stipend on every 20th and 23th of the month. So on 22nd I sent the payment. To my surprise, the same day, only one person posted the two articles per day (which was the condition, another one person posted just an article on the same day, and the third person didn't post at all.

The second day after the payment which was on 23rd, only one person was able to post. The two other didn't post at all. On 24th, I forced myself in sending one of them an email, which was not replied to. I called the other person, was complaining there was no network in his area? You mean no network for three days? And you cannot go to a cafe? damn it. I know he wants to quit.

This morning, I sent another email to this same guy that refused to reply my email in the first instance. I will try to post the screenshot though.

Here are our communication.

We have not seen your feed back, since the day we sent you your first payment. . We sent you an email, and we didn't see any reply from you. We are getting to be worried, if there is any problem at all you need to tell us. If you know you are not more interested in our vision, kindly tell us.

Take not we will definitely not sit back for long time waiting for your reply.

His reply.

Good morning,

it's like you did not get the mail I sent to you 4 days ago. Yes I saw the mail asking for my phone number, but I felt communicating through email was sufficient for now.

Here is a copy of the mail I sent four days ago

" Hello,
I got the alert of the 6k you sent. thanks. I think you'll make a good employer because you always keep your promises.

Today is just 2 days short of 5 weeks since I started writing for you, meaning I have given you more than a month's work of writing.

My point is this: I took the decision sometime ago to quit writing once I clocked one month of writing for you because
1. I signed up to be a freelance writer not a blogger.
2.writing for you increasingly felt like a full time job
3. at least 1200 words each day is too much seeing as I also have to blog for you at the same time
4.i can write more than 1200 words a day. but combining that with blogging seems a bit too much
5. I want to go back to the kind of freelance writing am used to.

I am sure this is kind of sudden. I am sorry about that. I had to stop writing once I got the balance of the 'peanuts'. that way no further obligation is imposed on you or me.

in a way I gained from the experience of blogging for you. I have learnt a few things about how to navigate a WordPress dashboard.

Cheers and Goodluck in all your endeavors."

That was the mail I sent four days ago. Check your mail box very very well. you'll see it there

As you can see above, he said he sent an email to me and won't reply to such email?

Sorry we didn't see any email like that. We are kinda disappointed though, seems (not too sure for now) you actually blocked me personally on facebook. if you have actually done that, then you are being childish.
Again you should have informed us not just now, this is a new blog that we do not want to experience off and on. While we cannot hold you, I want to be sure you actually read that we want someone that will work for us for the next one year, and here you are quitting for the first month. This is more or less like a bleach of agreement (though not signed upon) of course is a breach of trust. And in our future endeavor, you are have actually taught us to be more careful of how we take people in our dreams and aspirations.

And here is my own personal advise to you, please do think well before you take up a job in the nearest future. See you at the top

His reply below

Hmmmm.....where to begin......

1.ok lets start with the facebook thing. Sure I removed you from my list. In the first place I saw no point having you there. I am a very private person. Only my friends get to be there. I see nothing childish in that.

2. I get your point it is a new blog. I think you are even trying paying three writers 12k a month. If i have to write for you for the next 12 months, then you need to come up with a monthly plan on how you intend to move forward.

3. You talk about breach of trust, you are wrong my man. you promised to pay 12k a month for at least 2 articles a day. i worked for more than a month. I got the 12k. Where is the breach?

4. As a freelancer, i can quit anytime I decide to. I decided 1 month was enough for me. You need an explanation? My guy, in this online business, there is nothing like trust. We work on faith. What is the guarantee if I told you about my decision you'd have paid me? Put yourself in my shoes. You seem like a trustworthy fellow, but like I said, in freelancing, trust doesn't cut it.

5.Since i started writing for you, I noticed I was the only one to consistently giving you 2 articles a day, everyday. I was the only one that properly edited my articles. I was the only one who consistently inserted inbound links to related articles. How did you address these issues with the other writers?

6. Here is my advice to you, always communicate with your writers. Don't ever give your most dedicated workers a reason to belief they are being unfairly treated.

7. The advice you me gave me had too much assumptions in it. I love writing and research as a hobby that brings EXTRA CASH. I am very independent. That is one reason I could not see myself working for 12 months for you. I can as well start my own blog abi? So, as for taking up a job in the future, my favorite job right now is cutting down on jobs that take up too much of my time.

1. This one blocked me from Facebook after receiving his payment. So that I won't be able to contact him. haaahuh? Yet I intentionally asked everyone I employed their facebook link because of easier communication and to have sense of connection. And blocked the same person who employed you via online from having you as an online friend? How does that sound to you

2. So what was the agreement, was it a daily plan? Still wondering. I am just guessing, this one want a raise. In on a blog I do not intend to make a dime on for the next year. hahaha.

3. Worked for more than a month? okay yes, he started work on 20th, and stop working on the 22nd (same day he received his payment) of the following month. He actually work for more than a month IF HE HAD ALWAYS POSTING 2 ARTICLES PER DAY, but that was not the case. many times of posting one article and a few times of not posting at all. And he didn't read a part where I said I need a person that will work with us for at least in the next one year? To him, that was not an agreement.

4. If you do not trust me, LOL. why do you have to take the job in the first place. Ohhh, if at the end of the month ( I didn't send the payment, he would have said. "I said it, I know he won't, where the heck did he want to see the money to offset the three of us" Of course, he is already talking as one of uncultured one, I am now his guy. And who the heck told him, I needed a freelancer. The conditions was clearly written, a part time writter, not a freelancer. And yet he never wrote up to 6 articles when we sent him #6,000? Can you imagine.

5. Of course the pride has taken over him. I am the best among techproducts.com.ng writers. You give your best? Isn't it, I am sure people do not learn at the same pace, I was given them time to improve upong, and I hate it making complaint all the time. It will turns them off. People cannot be at the same level at the same time. Okay?

6. How were you unfairly treated? oh sorry, you were the most dedicated among them, and you were receiving the same amount huhhh?

7. Oh sorry about this, you never knew it will take your time that much? And we said it, ooo that we need people that has the time and the dedication, probably you never read that part too.

5. You can be anywhere in Nigeria

My Advice To people Who Wants To Hire Anyone From Nairaland.

Always know that physical employment, is still the best. I have my office, but I just think that it is more easier to see potentials online and is more quicker. This is not our first time of seeking employers from online, our graphic designer was source from nairaland, and we are still making progress together till now

2. MOST people you will employ will always be a little below average in whatever capacity you will employ them on. If you are too mindful of quality, source through physical medium first.

3. I wanted to create trust between me and the writers, that is why I sent them the 50% percent even before doing 20% of the job. If the person can sent me this above email and he still thinks he is right, many will take your money and run away. Blocked you from their facebook friend, add your email to spam list, change their number, God help you if you remember to ask their nairaland usernames

4. Nigerians do not take agreement serious, of course many of us do not have that conscience anymore, our politicians have killed our conscience with the amount we read that they are stealing everyday. So merely not keeping to agreement, to them is not corruption LOL. So try to be worded as much as possible, and make sure you use online legal technology like rocket lawyer if it is something serious. but do not forget the no. 2

Now to be frank. Am I pained? No, Am I disappointed YES, he should have informed me since the day he made up his mind, so that I will start looking for his replacement since. I was even thinking something serious had happened to him (God forbid) I am a student too, if this happens while we are not on holiday, this action of his will have affected the blog badly. It is just like given me another job again, of taken a whole lots of time to look for another person.

Do you have anything to add to this? In hireling a Nigerian for job online? Add yours below

Until the lion learns to write the story of the hunt, the hunter takes all the glory.

I will have to hear from the said guy before I conclude. I see this as a single story. You dealt with a human who had a MIND of his own. You can't control such, moreover the young man is looking for his own too as much as you.

There are a lot of people who scam others on this site particularly. But they are not even professional, but a hungry internet cheat. Beware!
I have served a lot of Nairaland Community users in the best way that a Compatriot should be in web development.

I don't understand how this relates to a breach of agreement. Didn't he have the so called mind of his own when he took on a job with clearly laid out terms?
