@ pauluche,
"Please note that though this affects 200 level DE students that gained admission in 2013/2014 academic session, it does
not affect the 200 level students they will meet (the ones that were admitted in 2012/2013 academic session and did 100
level)"

The quote above from your own link sums up all I have been saying, for old students, who used the 1.00-5.00 CGPA system, their grade conversion will be made based on that irrespective of the new system. And such will be provided in the trabscript. 3.5 from Unilag, in 1985 is not the same with 3.5 today. So on the transcripts different grading systems were listed for the grading authority to take the appropriate one applicable to the student.
Your conversion will be done based on the one used in your time in school. As far as I know this law is relatively new and shouldn't affect someone who graduated this year. That's surely a wrong evaluation.
For other argument, I don't really get it..I guess we should just watch how things pan out.

Bros we're saying same thing now. I said the notification is for those who got admitted from 2013/2014. I said that like 2times boss.... However we have to wait and see how other countries will take the new development. Note that when submitting soft copy of transcripts we do not include the page which contains the scaling because the transcript may have been addressed to a different school (at least in my case).
Thank you Sire.

thank you in the rum as per the corrections on the scale 5 0r 4, why am so confused is that there is one of my guy here on the niraland who applyied for evaluation of transcript frm uni assist on scale 5, a university student, 5.00 the highest 1 the lowest, uni assist email him is cgpa was 3.08/5 , meaning after conversion it was 2.9, instead of 2.4sumtin, so the guy told them that his minimum grade is 1 wile 5 is the highest, uni assist said that dough 1 is the minimum but from source anabin say for a degree 2 is the minmum pass mark for a degree na dia allam com blow , instead of 1 dey use 2 knowing fully well on the transcript that 1 is lowest 5 d highest, see film o, what happens in this case, gurus i leav this to u ooo
He should write to uniassist that the 2.0 used as minimum on anabin is a new directive that was not in effect during his time. Or he should obtain same from his school on a letterhead and forward to uniassist. These are his options...

@Walesby, thanks for your response. The prospective institute where I will do the PhD is in Pirna,a small town that's 30 minutes away from Dresden. However, the institute is under the Dresden University of Technology. I would probably live in Dresden and commute to Pirna. Sorry to ask,do you feel there are job opportunities there? I am hoping my professor will offer me a research assistant position. All fingers crossed.

Obiwann,twinkle,Nobody,eke4seven etc. You guys are awesome in this forum. I have been reading from this forum for a week now. The advices, insults, jokes are all making sense. Lol.

However, I have been wondering why PhD discussions are not available in this forum. In addition, people seem not to be heading to Dresden. Why is it that way?

Guys I need your sincere response to my case. I applied for a student visa and iv already done my interview, opened the block acc but haven't funded.Due to time factor,I couldn't make it to the enrollment deadline of my school. And the embassy has sent me a mail to fund my account, but I replied and told them that I couldn't make it but will apply for next section in same school winter 2016. Guys please I want to know if I still stand the chance of making it?

Pal, it will do you well to read some pages back while you wait to apply for next academic session. So don't cross those fingers yet but rather start reading and gain more knowledge about the procedures.
You won't regret you did. Goodluck grin

Gettin an accommodation in Bremen seems to be tough....since u will be enrolled at Unibremen..I strongly advise you to contact the studentenwerk....

http://www.uni-bremen.de/en/international/your-stay-in-bremen/housing.html

All other hostels around...Galileo, Okumnische seems full booked with the exception of Fizz ( but its expensive 480 quids for a basic apartment).

Also try wg-gesucht.de

They dont reply mails...itd better u call them...I also think it will be easier when u get to bremen cos most times they want u to come view the apartment immediately or next day.

For a place to spend first few nights...use this link.

http://bremen.jugendherberge.de/en/Portrait

You can also contact Nigerian students in Bremen...they ve a closed facebook page tho..ask Nellyb to link u up.

All the best.

NB: I ve been searchin for an apartment in bremen for abt 6weeks now and no positive result.

Well most pple on this board re mssters student hence phd discussion is almost non existent ...search for takeastep..he is doing his doctorate (probezeit) in Hamburg I think

Phd is viewed as a job in Germany..and phd candidates re employed by the uni or research institutes ( 50% or 75% TV-L 13)...some re awarded scholarships by Graduate schs( new sys) or bodies such as DFG, Marie Curie etc..I doubt if any sch will allow you to start a phd with private funding...cos it takes abt 3-4-yrs. In some schs it is stated that private fundin is not allowed this is done to prevent students from droppin out due to financial constrains.

If you re awarded scholarship you may nt be allowed to work ( clause of scholarship so you can concentrate on your studies) ..if as a research assistant in the uni you wont ve the time to work ( I doubt if its allowed) cos you will spend some time workin in the unu and the rest o n your thesis

So my advise is this, discuss the issue of fundin with your prospective supervisor

Also check out some scholarships using this webpage.

Did you contact your school for enrolment extension before making such decision? If not, I'll suggest you do that asap! Also you should note that living expenses has be increased to 8900 or so, meaning you pay more nxt year... Dont just give up like dat bro!
A couple of pple in here had dia enrolment extended. Yours shouldnt be an exception!!.

The amount has nt been increased...the increment is Bafog payments nt blocked account payments..although bafog payments re normally used to calculate the amount needed for blocked account..it has nt been done this year

https://www.daad.de/deutschland/nach-deutschland/bewerbung/de/9199-visum-beantragen/

The amount is still abt 8090 or so....

Sorry about that but in that case u need to know how long ur visa application stayed before it was denied so as to know if the Lagos consulate are the ones who rejected it or the alien office in ur city. And so as to know how to channel ur appeal.
And know if ur refusal has to do with the letter of sponsorship.

The professor advised me to contact the international office of the Dresden University of Technology and inquire if I can start a PhD with self-funding. The international office responded that I can do my PhD in their university with my own fund. Having said that,it is still my desire to start applying for scholarships once I've started the PhD research. Hopefully, one will come. Also,if I get a research assistant position, then I wouldn't need any other job cos I will be paid for the position. I would rather use the remaining time to concentrate on my research than looking for a second source of income.

If you did not get accommodation before living, Stay in Townside Hostel for 3 days, they charge about 15€ per night, then within three days you will get private accommodation, I am heading to Bremen too, but still waiting for my visa, some guys are already in Bremen.
