The Presidency on Monday explained why President Muhammadu Buhari discusses major policy thrust of government and his policies with the international media rather than its local counterpart, stressing that the world is a global village hence where Buhari speaks should not really matter. The President has come under intense criticism for always disclosing to the foreign media issues Nigerians back home are yet to know about regarding his government, including publishing an op-ed article in the Washington Post. This trend repeated itself last week in New York where the President opened up to foreign journalists about his intention to head the Petroleum Ministry. But clarifying what brought about the development, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, told WE 106.3 FM’s Morning Mojo programme monitored by DAILY POST in Abuja that, “when he (Buhari) goes abroad we always schedule the international media to have an engagement with him. That may not always be easy when he is at home because he has so many things to attend to. “But we make it a point of duty that every trip abroad, we schedule the international media to speak with him and that is why in France, in New York, in South Africa, wherever he has gone, he will always speak with the media and of course because the world is a global village,” he stated. Admitting that he is aware of the criticisms that come with the President’s resort to the foreign media, the presidential spokesman said: “it sort of pays us to say the world is a global village when we like and when we don’t like we criticize it. But that the world is a global village, we accept. “Wherever he (the President) says it does not matter; all that matters is that he has said it. The truth is that, whatever he says gets back to us in Nigeria. So does it matter where he says it?” he asked. Speaking further on why it is easier for the President to speak with the international media during his trips offshore, he said: “You know that in the past four months, he had been doing the work; trying to reset the foundation for a lot of things. As ministers come, you know there will be more devolvement and some of those things he had being doing personally, ministers will begin to do. “He will then have freer time with which to take on the media here in Nigeria. He has been very very busy. The Media Chat will resume soon. The most plausible reason being that our media houses are known to misrepresent him (deliberate act) . It is what he has suffered in their hands severally and as such I do not blame him a bit for treating them with disdain. It is a deserved treatment for being unprofessional. Examples of what he has suffered in their hands: 1. Buhari vowed to make Nigeria ungovernable - it turned out to be lie. The presidency had to beg him to withdraw the suit he instituted against Omokri (?) from court. 2. Buhari responsible for 2011 post election violence - turned out to be lie. 3. Buhari promised to end Boko Haram in two months when what he said was "few months". 4. "Buhari promised to make dollar equal to Naira" when the fact is there was no such statement from him other than to lament the poor value of the naira. 5. What about the very partisan role played by NTA and AIT during PDP's campaign of hatred against the man? The local media need to do more to earn his trust again. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

PassingShot:There is no such thing like trust among thieves. What I'm saying is our local media are so busy trying to outdo each other that they've resorted to spreading lies to achieve their aim. The funny thing is, the same NTA that spear headed those hate documentary against PMB, now find itself under his leadership. I wish I could say the same for AIT because Dokpesi had always had this penchant for spreading lies and deceiving Nigerians. I wonder if he has even paid his workers. He might just be making a mockery of himself and the nation internationally This govt and excuses are like 5 and 6! presidency should respect themselves! are they implying that the Nigeria media are not worth the effort of the presidents infnormation team and should the president of the country ADDRESS national issues and decisions to foreign media FIRST! Does the presidency understand that they are labelling the Nigerian media as second hand! Very unfortunate for PMB crew to come up with this excuse! |

dayo23:it is so unfortunate! the same Nigeria media that was used by the PMB/APC campaign team to do all sorts and boasts all sorts of information in order to become the president is now been treated as second hand media outlets. it is so unfortunate that after swearing the oath of allegiance to the country and to protects its citizens.the President WILL REVEAL ITS PLANS AND IDEAS FIRST to foreign media as a result its foreign trips FIRST and leave its primary citizens to be scrambling for information and explanation days after such information comes out. it is rather unfortunate citizens and the local media are scrambling for information where the President is realising to the foreign counterparts with ease.. |
