rexkexmilan:She tried so much to force Ifemelu down my throat. I should like the character of a book freely. Ifemelu herself didn't even care if I like her or not. Most times I felt she was fighting a war that isn't there, not mentioning her own hypocrisy and self-absorption. She is pitiably unrealistic. And the ending was just paaah! |

Re: The Best Books You Have Ever Read!!! by Nobody: 5:35pm On Oct 09, 2015 |
AmakaDNBStories:Alright. It got to a point, I started thinking that she made Ifemelu seem so much like a modern day whooore. |
Re: The Best Books You Have Ever Read!!! by AmakaDNBStories(f): 5:58pm On Oct 09, 2015 |
rexkexmilan:Ifemelu was just an unpalatable character. My boss called the entire book tiresome and Ifemelu a failed attempt to create an African woman everybody should idolize. |
Re: The Best Books You Have Ever Read!!! by Nobody: 7:03pm On Oct 09, 2015 |
AmakaDNBStories:I don't think the entire book was tiresome, though I must confess that some parts were actually boring. Was it really the intention of Adichie to portray ifemelu as an African woman to be idolized I think not. |

Interesting thread. There are so many books that I've read which qualify as best books I've read. I'm only going to list the ones I can think of off the top of my head so this list is by no means exhaustive. Here they are in no particular order except the first: -The Bible -Created For Love by John and Agnes Sturt -The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis -And The Shofar Blew by Francine Rivers -The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas -The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas -Barsoom Series of books by Edgar Rice Burroughs - The Harry Potter series of books by J. K. Rowling |

I assume you are talking about novels so I won't include the Bible. Some of my favourites... A Song of Ice and Fire (1-5) - George R. R. Martin (I hope to get the hardcopies someday) The Godfather - Mario Puzo The Pelican Brief - John Grisham Silent Treatment - Michael Palmer Are You Afraid of the Dark? - Sidney Sheldon Half of a Yellow Sun - Chimamanda Adichie (her best book so far, imo) The Concubine - Elechi Amadi |
