@ayooluwatoni I totally agree with both your points, especially your second point about LOE/SOP. @omonjoe @berexio1 @ayooluwatoni I however think that we should not hyperfocus and over-emphasize on the personal assets and financial status issue. I believe that it is when the VO is not explicitly convinced about the applicant's intentions in Canada that other imperfect aspects of the app start to look glaring. Fixing Purpose of Visit is the biggest elephant in the room. The other reasons matter of course, but a convincing Purpose of Visit could considerably allay the VO's concerns about all the other issues.

I strongly believe that an SOP dripping with passion and vision for your future in Nigeria shows very strong professional ties. Such an SOP would have to be super specific... I made my sister write in her SOP very precise descriptions of what she would do in Naija with her Canada MSc. She gave very precise and informed examples of these plans. All over the essay, she kept linking her MSc program to the particular skills she would need to implement those specific plans. Btw, she had a similar study gap as omonjoe... also, she didn't include any study leave letter or property documents or car document or anything of that sort. She had also changed fields, and her job was completely unrelated to her BSc. But we helped the VO understand everything, thru the SOP. It was very time-consuming to write it though... it took a month to get what we thought was perfect. Btw, she did include her bank account statement.

Also, I was reading someone else's GCMS notes in the past, and the VO noted that the candidate didn't have strong family/professional/financial ties to Nigeria. This was when I realized/remembered that you could convince the VO through one or any combination of these three ties (not necessarily all three).

I think we shouldn't be too formulaic about the application process, as @khalesi noted. In my opinion, the best way to reduce the probability of being delayed (particularly for complex/PGD applicants with a study gap) is to be clear, convincing, and passionate about what exactly it is in Nigeria you want to use your Canada education to impact. Also needed is to clearly & convincingly justify one's past educational & employment trajectory. You would do this in your SOP, and would spell everything else out very clearly. Don't expect the VO to read your mind, yet be concise unless you are a very engaging writer.

Finally, earlier in the thread (Parts 7 & 8 ), I remember there were several working applicants (in their mid to late 20s) with bank accounts less than N500k yet still got their TRV.

You're very correct @thesoj, even in one of my recent posts I made mention of the fact that I'm personally not a fan of making asset declaration. Never done it personally, I didn't even submit my own soa or any land or vehicle document, yet I got my trv. But I saw a guy's GCMS with similar refusal reasons as that of this bro, and the VO faulted his application for not showing proof that he has indeed been working. But just like you said, the main reason is that "purpose of visit".

Mr berexio, thanks for yor nice observation.

The VO wants me to have some savings and is concentrating on my employment because he thinks I've been home for 7years.

I didn't submit my degree certificate only transcript and a letter from my faculty stating when I completed my degree.(i guess that played a role) I only submitted my ssce certificate of 2008

In summary, I am quite sure these VOS don't read th extra extra letters and SOP we tend to write (atleast not in rush period)

Another thin is that, the most important part of an application is the IMM1294 form....whatever u write there is what the VO makes a decision from.

Gcms are a real pointer to how any application is perceived..Instead of stressing ur head and thinking all around ur application, ur gcms can point u in the right direction.

@Akin, the VO wey handle ur file smoke igbo

@Akin here u are changing courses here and there while the VO thinks u left school 7 yrs ago..These people make mistakes too. Mere looking at ur age and college diploma, anyone can assume. So first is for u to correct that misrepresentation.

Secondly, he wants u to have assets even know he confirmed u worked as a trainee with little pay..He wants ur balance to show good money. Yet he wants u to be honest in ur application.

My take: Just give him what he wants to see and collect ur TRV

How is ur australian parole tho?

Hello akin, its been a while.
let me be the first to screen you (constructively tho!)

according to your info above, you have degree in civil eng.you are 23 years old, that means you gained admission into university at the age of 13 if your program was 4 years duration, think about this.
the guy was not satisfied with your personal finance, therefore add more convincing documents.

your response on this could suggest more directions.
It is not about finance. It is about Purpose of Visit. Some way, some how, the VO thought he completed undergrad in 2008, and of which I started undergrad in 2008 and graduated just last year. That issue of asset and finance always or mostly come with purpose of visit, and then they use Travel History to garnish it (For those with virgin passports). So me think we should find out why the VO felt Akin graduated 7 years ago. And there are two possible reasons, probably Akin made a mistake while filling his visa forms or the VO just finished consuming some wraps of wet weed, and then he/she wasn't seeing clearly!

Passport Request 8th October
Passport sent 12th October
Approval 15th October

12 work days in all. Thanks to you all that have contributed to this thread in one way or the other. Special thanks to Team12, I never contacted you but knowing we have similar circumstances I followed your posts closely. Wishing all TRV hopefuls same success stories. Just put in your best in your application and leave the rest to God. While packaging your application, put yourself in the position of a VO and give detailed explanation and support documents to answer any question/clarification you think they may need.

Time to go search for accommodation and alternate child care center. The waitlist seems to be on snail speed.

What flights are cheap with shorter layovers?

You are very correct with ur points.. That form IMM1294 most times is what they concentrate on, they just seive thru the rest of the documents and assume quite a lot..We see a lot of these mistakes in other gcms.

i didnt submit my degree certificate as it wasnt ready. i included my transcripts which stated when i graduated and also a letter from my faculty stating when i completed my degree.....

the VO just sieved through the application and as a result of the workload he just assumed.

realistically how can a 23year old guy finish bachelors 7years ago......soundns ridiculous to me...

right now i will include my certificate, NYSC as present activity......

i know of a friend that got his TRV going for an advanced diploma(fasttrack) but on his 1294 he wrote certificate as the level of study compared to diploma which i wrote.
Do u guys think that played a role too as the certificate would have attracted the VO to the app while the diploma would have put the VO off from the scratch.

Bro. I wanna know if the driving license in question is for both Auto and Manual transmission or any. For some of us that can drive only Auto, any advise about getting a full driver license in Nigeria here. Pls advise.

it may be allowed to drive or to get a car with a 9ja license+offshore later, they are certain benefits you get in possessing your province drivers licence. benefits like, using it as a means of ID as opposed to carrying your Passport+visa about, getting some jobs, and also getting a cheaper premium on your car insurance. Cheers guys!![/quote]

Nah bro. Certificate or diploma na same thing. college diploma=college certificate, just as PGD=PGC.
I don't see how the term "certificate" vs "diploma" would make a difference to the VO.

toucheli:
Just a quick tip/advice for all who just arrived to Canada or will be coming soon. If you intend getting a car sooner or later, consider starting your drivers licence process asap, depending on your province it could take up to 3 years to get a full licence. However, coming with a 9ja licence can speed up the process to 3 weeks like literally. Furthermore, tho it may be allowed to drive or to get a car with a 9ja license+offshore later, they are certain benefits you get in possessing your province drivers licence. benefits like, using it as a means of ID as opposed to carrying your Passport+visa about, getting some jobs, and also getting a cheaper premium on your car insurance. @hayqinsbFX, did you include a "Document List" page with your application? I suspect that VOs sometimes miss documents that they don't know are included in the application. A "Document List" preempts this problem. I'm suspecting that the VO may have skipped some documents in your application, though it's unclear why.

Yihaaaaaaa...Congrats dearieee....Thank God....Please share all what you did and how you applied for you and your toddler. I contacted a well know agent for this and they told me its not possible to go with my child which will be 2yrs by bext year. Yet i come here and i hear testimonies so i know its possible. Please let me /us know how to go about it. Congratilations again sis.

Thanks Chigoziri. My girl will also be turning 2 next year. When you're ready to apply, while filling the initial questionnaire, you'll need to state that your child will accompany you, that you will pay for her application charges, that you'll fill her forms on her behalf and the application will generate all the forms you both need for the app. Your child's status will be as a visitor.

The first thing to do once you decide which province you'll be schooling at is to register your baby on the central wait list for licensed child care (that's if you'll be needing a day care). The queue is usually very long and sometimes it takes up to a year before it gets to your turn. I didn't do that and now I'll have to make do with alternate means.

I am not sure if I have someone with similar case in the house but I'll still like to ask the family. Ive been to Canada as a visitor and now looking forward to apply for a study permit in the same country. What are my chances of getting an approval? I still have a valid ca visitor visa though.
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by busayo21: 1:40am On Oct 17, 2015
I don't think that is a problem. Check this out...

Working or studying in Canada

Most visitors to Canada cannot work or study in Canada without a permit.

If you are visiting Canada and you want to work or study, you have a few options if you still have legal status in Canada.

For a new work permit, you can apply:
•from your home country or another country where you are lawfully admitted. Follow the instructions on how to apply for a work permit, or
•in person or by mail at the Visa Application centre in New York.

For a new study permit, you can apply:
•from your home country or another country where you are lawfully admitted. Follow the instructions on how to apply for a study permit, or
•in person or by mail at the Visa Application Centre in Los Angeles.

Just submit your study permit application with required documents, and you are back in Canada again...#smiles. All the best.
