agaugust:Your air defence system is old chief. Your missiles are obsolete. You are a cheap fake military analyst indeed. If the public and yourself know nothing about their 16 GDF-002 why do you even utter a word about them? You should have just shut that your stinking mouth for once because you are now contradicting yourself that nobody on the public domain know anything about the equipments used by Nigeria's air defence. So shut the hell up and let us to do the talking because we have the full details of our GDF while you are in the dark. |

Seems our fake military analyst has gone wrong again. Bofors aircraft guns can only shoot up to the range of 4km, not fictitious 12 Km. http://www.armyrecognition.com/sweden_swedish_military_army_light_heavy_weapons/l/70_l70_l-70_bofors_40mm_automatic_anti-aircraft_gun_air_defence_system_technical_data_sheet.htBofors |

Skyshield GDF-007 comes complete with AHEAD anti aircraft guided missiles with the range of 8km. That is exactly what SANDF will be having in 2017.

agaugust:Lets compare shall we? Roland SAM - obsolete 1970's missile system Blowpipe SAM - obsolete 1970's missile system SA-7 MANPAD - obsolete 1960's MANPAD system Starstreak - most advanced MANPAD currently in operation, no known countermeasures. Uhmkonto - latest generation of SAM missile systems So, conclusion: SANDF missile defence - state of the art Nigerian missile defence - obsolete 1960's and 1970's junk .

agaugust:1. We use Skysheild standardized to latest generation GDF-006 AHEAD and GDF-007 AHEAD standard. Yes they are 100% better 2. Nigerian Bofors is an ancient WW2 weapon - developed in 1933 3. Nope, your man beeguggug says its GDF-02... is he wrong? 4. We know the numbers, you have only got 16 GDF-20 5. Yes, and we have more AAA guns than you (148 in total) and they are more advanced. And lets be clear: - Nigerian GDF 02 = OBSOLETE - Bofors = OBSOLETE - Shilka = OBSOLETE - Type 90 = Copy of the GDF-02 Your air defence is a collection of obsolete systems with obsolete fire-systems! Pathetic rag tag army!

FighterPilot:Did you see the link you posted www.fool.com. You just proved how foolish you are. This is your problem. You always read things that mislead you. There is no fighter jet on earth that is $2-3 million and as dull as you are you even believe there is a fighter jet of $25,000. SU34 $18 million and mig 29 $40 million. You are just too dull to be called a fool. |

FighterPilot:What you will get in 2037 rite? Your country is broke and the currently have no dream of buying military equipment. They even plan to dismiss 10,000 SADF personnel. Use your head boy. |

Patchesagain:Stop claiming what you are not. Let me remind you of a old post on this same thread 2584. For example, back in 2009, the South African Air Force stopped automatically releasing data on how many hours combat pilots flew for training. When the numbers were finally obtained, it was discovered that in 2008, fighter pilots were in the air for 325 hours (less than two hours a month per pilot). In contrast, pilots on VIP flights (carrying politicians and government officials) were up there 1,932 hours. There are about fifty transports and 80 helicopters in the air force at the time, and that number has continued to shrink. https://www.strategypage.com/dls/articles/South-Africa-Loses-Use-Of-Its-new-Gripens-8-18-2013.asp |

iblawi:Ok, so you have accounted for 2000 of the 18 000 hours How is 2000 the majority of 18 000? basic arithmatic buddy, basic arithmatic |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by iblawi(m): 4:21pm On Oct 17, 2015 |
Patchesagain:You forgot the part that said " that numbers have continued to shrink " So if the transport aircraft are not up to that amount again it means you now fly less than 1,000 hours a year. |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 4:59pm On Oct 17, 2015 |
iblawi:18 000 hours is how much the SAAF flew last year This is a fact, it is not up for discussion or questioning. |

| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by iblawi(m): 5:46pm On Oct 17, 2015 |
Patchesagain:For your information NAF don't fly politicians around and we have more of combat craft than transport aircraft. I Guess the difference is clear. |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 5:48pm On Oct 17, 2015 |
iblawi:1. Yes you do 2. I am not going to bother responding to your second statement. 18 000 hours, only 2000 spent on VIP duties - confirmed by you Thanks ![]() |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by iblawi(m): 5:57pm On Oct 17, 2015 |
Patchesagain:You are free not to respond but let me remind you that many of our helicopters are now armed. Politicians won't even dream of it in Nigeria. Lastly, I never confirmed any thing about you 18,000 hours. The link showed 1,932 hours for flying VIPs and 325hours for combat pilots in a whole year. That was when South Africa still had money to play with but nowadays you beg Russia and Cuba to train your pilots for free. You can't even pay for there living expenses except you reduce the number to <10. |

@DictatorZar thinks that international politics is like a school yard game of see-saw and skipping rope.I weep for Africa,is this the quality of graduates produced by South African universities?. Do you think SA would have been able to do anything other than make noise if Botswana had really wanted an AFRICOM base on its soil?,SADC is different from ECOWAS,France practically rules at least 9 of the ECOWAS states; even PMB admitted it on international media. Out of the 9 francophone 'neo-colonies' in west africa, only 4 can be said to be "moderately independent".Nigeria maintains control in ECOWAS due to its provision of electricity to all its neighbours, financial aid to ECOWAS countries, domination of trade and investment in the region, strong military presence and diplomatic clout. However,we cannot authoritatively dictate to ECOWAS governments because of the staggering degree of french neo-colonial influence,it could lead to loss of regional support. Even the US cannot fight 9 of its neighbours simultaneously. |

iblawi:Your politicans wouldent dream of it? pic related! In the middle of a war, when your military is desperate for funding and new equipment... your politicians still found time to buy a new toy The Department of Defence’s 2013/14 annual report noted that the SAAF flew a total of 18 454 hours, or 87.65% of the planned flying hours for the year ending March 31. Of the targeted 6 300 force employment hours that were planned, only 4 471 were actually flown as “the requirements of force employment were less than predicted.” http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=36879:feature-operationally-stretched-saaf-flying-fewer-hours&catid=35:Aerospace 18 000 hours, 4 471 for training alone. Deal with it

EVarn:we could have been able to Lord over the francophone west African states if we were stronger economically. Cuba and some Caribbean American states that tried to play to the tune of the Soviet Union saw what it felt like to live in the shadow of a dominant global economic super power. Nigeria cannot be considered a power economically even in west Africa because we cannot as at yet boast of a wide reaching economic interest that cover the whole of west Africa. we are rich from an African point of view because most of the states around us are crumbling in debts but still yet. Those poor states are not completely loyal to us. Yes we can dominate francophone west Africa if we had a wide reaching economic / political dominance in the region. This small states just make their own decision because they believe that no counter action from Nigeria would scratch them economically or politically. I really wish you ve read of how much we fought against AFRICOM and how unsuccessful it was because of our fading dominance. |

EVarn:By your own admission it is not Nigeria who controls ECOWAS... but France |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 6:54pm On Oct 17, 2015 |
overhypedsteve:The problem with Nigerians is that you use terms like "dominance" or "controll" And then you wonder why your neighbors dont play ball? If I had to chose between being "dominated" by Nigeria or US/France I know exactly who I would choose. Meanwhile - SADAC is run as a collective, we dont use words like "dominance" we use words like "partner"... hence why South Africa/Botswana/Namibia are practically indistinguishable and nations like Zambia and Angola are slowly drifting into the fold. This is also why SADAC is growing in power - soon Tanzania will complete their transition into the grouping as well. And then we will be unstoppable. We are a collective, you are a collection of competing egos

| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by overhypedsteve(m): 7:18pm On Oct 17, 2015 |
Patchesagain:calm down. SADAC nations have a common history, they do have worked well as a federation. SADAC nations actually have a reason to bond. We would have had a reason to bond if we had a strong enough leader to bind us together. Do not confuse issues every successful international organisation was successful because of the dominance of a single power, examples are: IMF, BRETTON WOODS and the UN. The European concert system failed due to the absence of British dominance, the gold monetary system failed when Britain pulled out of it, the League of Nations failed because congress would not ractify America's membership. I can go on and on. In every successful international organisation there is always an hegemon a power broker. I am not asking anybody to dominate anybody but I am just saying that is the reality of the international system |
| Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by EVarn(m): 7:30pm On Oct 17, 2015 |
Patchesagain:Not so,take for example the EPA that was bandied around by the EU,Nigeria stood its ground and rejected the terms stipulated in the EPA even when countries like Ghana were already hovering their pen on paper,ECOWAS had no choice but to demand a review of the terms stated in the EPA. Recently,President of Benin,Boni Yayi, referred to Benin as the 37th state of Nigeria, even though Benin is a francophone country. There is practically no distinction between Nigeria,Ghana and Benin both culturally and socially. However, there are limits to hegemony of any regional power(as is evident in the relationship between the US and Venezuela),especially when these countries have foreign powers to fall back on. France maintains too much influence on its former colonies, including currency(CFA Francs) and capital/forex market control: antagonizing with dumb brute force is counter-productive. |

FighterPilot:When did South Africa fight Germany alone or fight Russia at all? Your country would have been wiped out by Germany that defeated France, and Russia that USA is afraid to fight. No wonder you have no citations for your tales by moonlight. Anyway, Nigeria defeats rebels, but Seleka rebels defeated South Africa, so you prefer to get beaten up by people smaller than you . |
