missgray: Truckpusher:Very good...beffiting of the leeches and the hangers-on who would never mind their business. This is strictly an issue between peoples of related culture, language and tradition. Non Igbos should leave the Igbos and their Igboid groups to sort out their differences. What is all this keeping vigil on a matter that does not concern you people? |

Truckpusher:You want south south out of Nigeria, but because you are afraid of Igbo dominating you, you don't want Biafra. But it's never gonna be possible for south south to win itself in peace or in battle out of Nigeria. Your dreams are most unrealistic. You are most saucy. No serene person can chain you with superior arguments unless a northerner who comes with weapons and tells your shut up, all you have is collective because of one of Nigeria, he dominates what ever you have, and makes laws and constitution for you to obey so that it shall be offensive for you to protest. Go home you and HopeatHand, Biafra doesn't need the yes from people like you to materialize. Above all, you are not even educated enough to know your history, talk less telling a whole Igbo tribe where Igbo land begins and ends. Your only history you know is the divide-and-rule by Northern and Southwest that Igbo enslaved you, shall enslave you in Biafra. That's the only thing that can pass through your head. |

Truckpusher:Lol! Fought Gini? More like ran with his tails between his legs. He was only good at harassing innocent defenseless neighbouring African groups, the first encounter he had with an organized empire, his village empire fell yakata! Lol! The Roman empire Crumbled under it's own weight, it wasnt conquered and turned into a vassal state by a foreign empire. And further more, the Roman empire increased the frontier of human knowledge base for centuries. Name one single innovation your mushroom Bini empire added to human knowledge? Bini art works were no match for those of Nri and Igbo ukwu. I guess your inferiority plaqued king, Oba Chukwumela Nnam-Obi didn't know all these, if he did, he wouldn't be so smitten with inferiority complex as to be rolling on the floor before Oba Bini, and adding salt to injury by changing the "Eze" title of Ogba kingdom to "Oba" title. |

Truckpusher:No matter how far I run from being labelled an Igbo, the closer I get to becoming one. I am Igbo and that is my choice. I respect your decisions Truck Pusher and must commend you for your maturity on this forum. You're a true Niger-Deltan. You raised some valid points, some of which Pazienza is yet to answer. Many of us wish to share a common country with the SE Igbo, a Biafra of many ethnicities built on mutual understanding. But even at that, we still don't want to be caged inside a future country that won't respect our decisions. Especially the decisions of the minorities amongst us. The South East Igbo rather than be emotional whenever issues that concerns the minorities are raised, should sit down put themselves into our shoes. Let us sit down in a round table and chat the course of what the new country should look like. A guy called Carnegianfan has given me a glimpse of the how a confederated Biafra would look like. But I'm still not satisfied, especially as Nnamdi Kanu is still running the show. The Biafra movement needs revolutionary and charismatic leaders that can understand the fears of the minorities, and plan the future country without it sliding along a superiority and inferiority line - akin to a master servant relationship. |

Truckpusher:While writing all your half knowledge no Igbo group in Rivers State had a centralised Government. Oba of Ogbaland was not in Ogba culture and started recently. If we must write the truth only Delta Igbos and Oguta/Egbeme/Onitsha inside Igboland had Benin styled kingship. Other Kingships existed like Ezearo, Ezenri, Enachioken etc. but none was Benin based. They all developed according to their challenges. |

pazienza:I always find these denigrations of our history amusing because they're borne out of crass ignorance. The archeological evidence indicates the following; a) Earliest evidence of bronze smithing in West Africa. b) One of the earliest evidence of iron smelting of the planet (Opi, Obimo and Lejja) c) Earliest surviving textiles fragments in the West African forest region. What more could our ancestors have achieved! It's interesting to note the that the democratic, humanistic, participatory political system so derided by detractors is exactly where the rest of the planet is going. |

discusant:He accuses Ndiigbo of expansionism agenda, when in realities Ndiigbo were never empire builders and had never taken anything we didn't pay for. But on the same hand, he and his King, Oba Ogba are smitten by Love for Bini empire, an empire that was built on expansionism, subjugation, and exploitation of neighbouring groups, traits all built on desire to have possession of other people's wealth through the force of war and might without paying a dime for them. An empire built on Blood. They are so much inlove with this empire that represents exploitation, expansionism, subjugation. Yet they accuse Ndiigbo, a people never known for this traits, both in antiquity and in modern times, of being guilty of the very crimes of this their beloved Bini empire. If this is not cognitive dissonance, I don't know what else it is. |

Eastlink:Of course we bear the same name and share a lot in culture but my identity shouldn't be swallowed under any circumstances and this is where I stand. If they can't respect that then lemme remain in my original slavery. What is the essence of leaving slavery to enter another round of slavery? - It would be better for the Niger Delta people to secede on their own and pay the heavy price at least we died for something then they can have the Niger Delta all to themselves than leave another form of slavery only to join another one with our eyes open - That is totally unacceptable. Until the Igbos stop classifying other minority group of the Niger Delta as Rivers Igbo and Delta Igbo ,no deal and to the death with one Nigeria after all we have paid with our environment what else can we not pay with? |

Truckpusher:Anyway, there's always a silver-lining even in the worst things - just as a dead clock is right twice a day. Kanu, despite his hateful, distasteful, and comical shenanigans - he has been able to create an international awareness for Biafra again. And the world is watching. So, it's time for educated South South and Igbo folks to form a separate group, to probably run parallel to what he's doing, with peace and diplomacy, as the nucleus of their struggle. While keeping secession as the ultimate prize - but autonomy as a consolation if they can't attain the ultimate prize via negotiation. Once they do that - other folks are going to start demanding the same thing. Outright secession, without bloodshed looks like an impossible task right now, but they can always get autonomy, if they play their cards right. The zoo has to either collapse or be restructured with autonomy - it's 2015 and the zoo will never work the way it's. |

Eastlink:You lots never cease to amaze me. You speak like SE is totally homogeneous. You forget quickly why Ndiigbo never developed an empire in the past, we all cherish our distinctions, no one want to give up a part of his Igbo group to be whole with another Igbo group. Just as Ndoni craves for autonomy, so do Nkanu, Ngwa, Ndoki, Izzi, Ezza, etc. The very idea of the whole SE uniting to Lord it over any other group is but a propaganda, seeing as right within the SE. each Igbo group also crave for autonomy. Biafra will be divided in such a way as to reflect that aspect of who we are, ie our innate need to remain distinct, autonomous, and having niches of our own, within the Igbo or Biafran nation as the case may be. Biafra 1.0 was divided into provinces that reflected this very Biafran characteristic. |

Truckpusher:I know a lot of Ogba dudes who hate to be called Igbos. I also know of many who are proud Igbos. Now, how do you now classify those who want to be attached with the mainstream Igbos. This is a big dilemma you folks are faced with. But, for us in Egbema we know who we are, some want to hide from being called Igbos, yet deep down in their heart they cannot run from it. I also understand the pains of the mainstream Igbos. They hate to see someone with the same name with them, similar language and culture deny his identity. A balkanized Igboland is something they hate to see. |

Shymm3x:God bless your head my friend - Nobody wants to go into any kind of conflict when the big economies are looking for where to open up new proxy war-fronts all over the world, this is the time for wisdom and knowledge and not ranting like a market woman like Nnamdi Kanu is doing BY instigating angry jobless youths against a fragile state like Nigeria. With the pressures that are coming from the different parts of the country ,the North and their interest would have no choice than to make a last minute deal to save whatever that is left of their political glory in a skewed structure of Governance that has favored them and what is needed is for the two uniting fronts to put up secession on the table with real players in place and diplomacy, we will definitely get a better deal and if it becomes that bad then autonomy would become a better choice after all a united Nigeria ,with the right economy and Industrialization would be a power to reckon with in the future and would become the rallying point for every black nation - We've been pushed around for far too long and if we fragment ourselves then that dream is lost forever after all South Africa has been sold the Caucasians economically and they would ensure it remains that way for another century . These guys are beating the drums of war that would send the black race to two more centuries backward and once you kick against it ,you become an enemy of the people. I don't build castles in the air - I'm a realist. |

@Truckpusher I have followed your argument on this thread and I totally agree that people should be left to be who they say they are and not who others say they are irrespective of their History. But my only problem is when in a bid to convince Igbos that they're not one of them, they start coming up with all sorts of fictional stories of how they migrated from Abeokuta and started speaking Igbo because their neighbour, Chinedu from Onitsha put a gun to their head and forced them to. There's no need for all of this. We all have to accept the current realities and see how far we can move from here. Just like you, I also get pissed off at the annoying and courteous nature of some Igbos on this forim. It's just annoying and this behavior is the reason why any sensible group will not align with Igbos for anything whether it's an alliance in Nigeria or outside It. We have to learn to be more diplomatic. That's why the Hausas and Yorubas are winning. |

ezeaku50@yahoo.com Antwerp, Belgium ANNOUNCE THIS ARTICLE TO YOUR FRIENDS TRIBUTE TO, FRANCIS J. ELLAH, AN UNREPENTANT IGBO TRADITIONALIST very man is created for a purpose to which he represents. Man's sense of mission on earth is not only measured by his articulation of the ideals which he believes in, but also by his tenacity to defend those ideals. Men fight for different causes, and whatever may be their nature, these causes eventually define the individual's place in history. In Nigeria as in elsewhere, each of the public figures, living or dead, has one thing or the other that he would be remembered for. advertisement The passing recently of Ogbuehi, Chief, Senator Francis Ellah, Eze Nwadei of Ogbaland in Rivers state, has marked yet another turning point in the geo-politics of the post-war Igboland and Nigeria in general. The Ogba high Chief, besides his active involvement in the Nigerian national politics, where he was once a federal minister, was as well involved quietly in the struggle to resist the corruption of his identity. The drive by some of his Rivers kinsmen to differ from other Igbos on ethnic identity was consistently known to have been repudiated by the high Chief, and to which he and his fellow traditionalists had fought long hard to show the need for assertiveness in their domain.. Down the path of his honourable life, the virtues of doggedness, clear vision and principles were consistent with Senator Ellah, even as he resigned his membership of the Nigerian Senate in 1984 following issues of conflicting interests. He was one of the premier voices on the methodology of oil revenue allocation to the bearing communities. Chief Ellah was a graduate of History at the University of London (University college, Ibadan). Responding against the backdrop of the incendiary nature of the question of who is an Igbo in Rivers state, and the variety of the dialects, the Senator once said, " We have described this before; I told you an Igbo is an Igbo. If you look at the language, culture, etc, these are some of the things that determine an ethnic group. I'm a student of History. I started from the known to the unknown. Being an Igbo, I started with Igbo History, and then studied other ethnic groups" After his years in the public service where he rose to become the Head of the Civil Service in Rivers state, he ventured into private business and eventually got to his pinnacle. Upon founding the Ellah Lakes Plc, he sat on the board of many organizations until his sudden death. Chief Ellah's wisdom and intellect were universally recognised, and which, on many occasions had brought upon him the burden of representation on very serious matters concerning Ndigbo in Nigeria. A rare privilege enjoyed by the likes of Chief Justice Chukwudifu Oputa or His Majesty, Prof. Chike Edozien. With the passing of Chief Ellah and others such as Chiefs MCK Ajuluchukwu, Sam Mbakwe, Akanu Ibiam etc., the number of these rare breed of people is fast on the way out, unless something drastic was done to change the psychology of leadership in Igboland. It would be recalled that Chief Ellah was nominated by the Ohaneze to attend the 2005 National Political Reform Conference in Abuja, and had been consulted severally on the lingering dispute that is currently tearing the organization. He was also responsible for the opening of the Biafran mission in the U.K during the 1967--70 Nigerian/Biafran war. The life and times of this great Igbo son, a true bridge-builder, is worthy of special celebration by all sons and daughters of Igboland. The thoughts and prayers of all should, at this difficult moment, be with his family. Chief Ellah was reported to have died on the 23/4/08 at the age of 80 of what was believed to be natural causes. May his gentle soul rest in peace. http://nigeriaworld.com/articles/2008/apr/282.html That's a true Eze of Ogba. Ogbuehi Francis Ellah, a man of great principles who knew his history. Not the current Ignoramus who went on to change his throne from Eze to Oba, and is busy rolling on the floor before Oba of Bini. I am sure that Oba of Bini must be bemused by Oba Chukwumela Nnam-Obi actions. Lol! |

Afam4eva:Well, you can make a caricature of a people's real history but that doesn't still change the fact that you are fully subscribed to that same ideology like your kin and kith - But the message is simple leave them alone ,they are not igbos and would never be one and if you guys aren't trying too hard to force them to become one they wouldn't have to undergo the emotional torture of cooking up stories for you people to leave them alone. Is it a crime to share common boundary with a bigger neighbor ? Is it a crime to be acculturated into a another culture by constant interaction over time? When has it become a do-or-die affair to label a people with your own identity - leave us alone ,we are not Igbos but we support Biafra but we must be sure of what we are getting at the end of the day.But we are not Igbos we have our name, culture and our way of life and we do not wish for our identity to be changed ,we are just 240,000 people. ![]() The Hausas and Yorubas are winning you guys and not us - We've been down by virtue of our status as minorities ,we simply go for the better deal ,a sure one before dreaming of an eldorado. ![]() |

Eastlink:This has always been the plan from the very beginning. Every Igbo group guards her identity with enormous zeal. Onitsha townshop is now built on Onicha, Obosi, Nkpor, etc lands, but go to any part of Nkpor and Obosi that make up Onitsha township and erect a sign post that addresses the place as Onitsha and watch how Obosi. and Nkpor youths will descend on you and tear your sign post down. NoIgbo group want to be swallowed up by her bigger or more prominent Igbo neighbors, that how it is everywhere in Igboland. The problem with the Igboids is that most of you know next to nothing about SE and hence always end up seeing SE as a homogeneous group hell bound on forcing their identity on you. Whereas the reality is that even in SE, Igbo groups fight to maintain their distinct entities from each other, such that there is simply no unified SE identity to force on Igboids. |
