Boko Haram And The North by bigtt76(op): 9:57pm On Oct 23, 2015
Over the years, we've seen Northern Nigeria religious and fanatical citizens show their unflinching support against any perceived aggression to their beliefs.

If it's not a case of a Christian butcher selling the forbidden pork to an unsuspecting moslem buyer, it is the near violent demonstration leading to the relocation of the Miss World beauty pageant from Abuja becos of its conflict with the Ramadan period.

Events outside Nigeria seen by the Northern Nigeria moslems as being contrary to the preaching of the Holy prophet, had seen them reacting.

We all saw the first cartoon and lately the case of Je suis Charlie as one of the numerous catalysts needed to make their voices heard.

How can I forget the 2011 post election violence which saw innocent NYSC Members killed for serving their beloved country.

During the wake of the Boko Haram crisis, we've been told their teaching does not portray Islamic teachings which many of us are made to believe.

One thing I and many others are yet to understand is why haven't there been any of the usual uprising against these groups going against their religious teachings? undecided

Who knows, maybe an uprising by the Northern Moslems would be the much needed game changer required to eradicate this menace.

We've seen many northerners migrate to the southern part of the country in search of peace (hitherto, the southerners had been forced to do the same).

Why are you guys still silent? All yeee Northern stand up against Boko Haram the same way you've all united as one to fight against the enemies of your religion.

Except of course you're telling us killings in thousands of your own people is most welcomed by these criminals angry

Can really relate to the 2011 post election massacre of mostly corpers, cos I was in Zaria at the time...

The truth is, the Northern elite and some clerics, especially from the Muslim extraction had over the years nurtured and encouraged violence against other tribes and religion, either by their silence or direct support of such actions, And today, we all know what it has degenerated to.

As a father, if u keep encouraging ur son to rebel against others, a time will come when ur son will feel he has got enough spine to even challenge and rebel against u as well. That is what is seen in the North today as in the case of boko haram.

I believe that boko haram is a northern elites' pet project that went rogue.

The North needs serious orientation, buh alas, no one is willing to stick his neck out.

Ye northerners should Keep burying your heads in the sands like ostriches whilst keeping fires on your rooftops.

Your Hausa/fulani elites should endeavor to educate their people with the Hausa BBC service on the dangers of BH instead of making it a propaganda tool to brainwash the almajiris/downtrodden pawns in the quest for political/religious domination of other regions..

Education is one of the keys to freedom/ prosperity not Islamic studies with its tendencies in breeding religious extremism.

Name calling won't solve BH menace.

Face reality and demand of your leaders for solutions instead of the blame game whilst north burns.

Ur evading my question. I need ur proof

As for the boko haram, we are trying our best. Do you know how many boko haram members were killed by the CJTF?
Re: Boko Haram And The North by bigtt76(op): 1:17am On Oct 24, 2015
Unfortunately that best doesn't seem enough or visible. The menace is on the increase and daring daily.

These guys are not faceless, they live amongst you. The same medium or media deployed in the past that was able to unify the decisions to attack and maim non-muslims should be deployed against these people.

The North should show more commitment towards eradicating hem completely. For once set aside religious sentiments.

More needs to be done. Not just about boko haram, but also about the general disregard for the value of human life and a continual desire for destruction. These are the results of believing people are less human than you simply because they have different religious beliefs. More than that, it is a cycle. It was the Maitatsine in the 80s, now it is boko haram. What will it be tomorrow?

Most of the people who carry out these acts are indoctrinated in Northern Nigeria. They are not imported from somewhere else. It's not just about civilian jtf killing bh, it's about the general state of the North and the core North in particular.

If Nigeria divides today the North of Nigeria will be one of the poorest, most illiterate countries in the world. A lot needs to be done. Literacy rates need to go up, child marriages need to stop, school enrolment rates need to go up and tolerance needs to increase if not the North will remain exactly where it is and this cycle will continue.

I commend cJTF for doing what they are doing, but they wouldn't need to do what they are doing if the right things had been done in the first place.
