[b]…workers, patients locked out It was a gory sight yesterday as workers and patients of government hospitals in Imo State were locked out by officials of Imo Security Network, ISN, following the order of the state governor, Rochas Okorocha . The general hospitals involved were among 305 health institutions in the state which the state governor concession early last month. Since then, government and labour union had been at logger ahead as the union complained of insensitivity of the government to the plight of its members who are owed over eight months salary arrears. When National Mirror visited some of the general hospital at Mberie, Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Umuguma in Owerri West LGA, Ngor Okpala LGA, and General Hospital Okigwe, workers and patients were seen discussing the matter. The officials, who arrived the hospital premises at about 12 midnight on Sunday, ordered all the staff and patients admitted in the wards out of the hospital before locking the gates. At Mberie General Hospital over 20 member of the security network, that were deployed to the hospital chased the workers and patients out of the hospital while those on duty were locked out from entering into the hospital. A pregnant woman, Mrs. Ijiribako Chigozie, who claimed she came to the hospital for delivery, told our correspondent that she registered at the hospital. “I was given a date today (yesterday) because I am about to deliver, I am feeling somehow,” she said. Some doctors described the pregnant woman’s condition as having “Pedaroedema”(swollen legs) as a result of long time standing, adding that she was being exposed to serious danger.” Also, the state chairman, Hospital Workers Welfare Association, Imo State, Mgbemere Friday, expressed fear that the situation may worsen today (Tuesday) “because that is the day HIV patients come to take their routine treatment and many may die if they did to take their drugs as prescribed by their doctors. Speaking also, the doctor in charge of Mberie General Hospital, Dr. Christian Ojima, said that over 20 armed men arrived the hospital at about 12 midnight and ordered nurses and security guards on duty including in-patients out of the hospital that hour. Reacting, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okorocha, Sam Onwuemeodo, said that he has not gotten the details, but insisted that the hospitals are owed by the state government. Good. They should collect their salaries and stop joining politicians to blackmail Government. The impression they gave was that Okorocha refused to pay them whereas they refused to claim their salaries because there was plans to have them concessioned. Okorocha should finish the battle so that the next administration won't come back to face same vicious cycle of unproductive health institutions. After this he should source for funds and complete the 27 standard hospitals. It will be wasteful to invest so much in hospitals for them to run them down. |

DeviIhimself:Anambra has gone through worse and you still did nothing. Do you have alternative solution or you just hate Okorocha for the sake of ousting the drunkard President. https://www.nairaland.com/786227/anambra-recruit-foreign-doctors-local Eight months strike: Anambra to recruit doctors from abroad Following its inability to persuade doctors working in state hospitals who have been on strike for eight months to return to work, the Anambra State Government has decided to recruit doctors from South Africa, Ghana and India to fill the vacuum created by the striking doctors. Sources said that the decision was taken during a joint meeting between the government and senior officials of the Ministry of Health. Only last week, some officials told journalists that the government had exhausted all avenues for negotiations with the striking doctors and had resolved that recruiting doctors from foreign countries was the only option left to government. The officials felt that recruitment of foreign doctors into the health sector would stem the tide of high rate of infant deaths in the state, with over 80 infants losing their ives since the doctors strike began in February, this year. An unconfirmed source disclosed that the state government also plans to pay off all arears of the doctors' emoluments before embarking on the recruitment exercise, as a way of dispensing with the services of the striking doctors. Contacted, an executive member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Anyaso, said the decision of the state government to recruit foreign doctors had been communicated to them some two months ago, saying they were not disturbed with the news. He added: “We remain resolute on our stand. We are waiting to see them act on their resolution. Do you know how much it would cost them to pay the wage bills of those foreign doctors, which we understand, would be in hard currency? We are waiting for them. Our plan B action would soon be announced. “If the state government pays us half of what they will pay the foreign doctors in hard currency there will be no cause to go on strike.” Doctors working in government hospitals in the state are still on strike since February, this year, over the non- implementation of consolidated salary structure, which other state governments. http://www.nigeriancompass.com/index.php? option=com_content&view=article&id=6671%3Aeight- months-strike-anambra-to-recruit-doctors-from- abroad&catid=54%3Anigeria-today&Itemid=594 |

Silly b.astard focus on the rot in your useless and worthless imo state. Imo state is bankrupt and hopeless but it does not bother you and now they are owing 11months salary arrears. And that is the worst so far in Nigeria since 1999. [s] Abagworo:[/s]
