"She attempted to dispossess the Policeman of his gun. During the struggle, the gun exploded and the woman was hit". What a callous explanation of the woman's death? Another life lost. When will the Nigerian Police stop all this senseless killing of her citizens? How do you expect the people to honour/respect this police again? The only thing they bring around you is fear. Fear of you been shot by one silly and senseless man that wear a black uniform.

I think, it's time that this happy killer police should be giving a public trial. Things can't continue like this now. Who do we know that is next from this MIB (men in black)?

Nigeria has reached the level when O-level wasc (unverified) individuals with high-levels of illiteracy and poverty mentality join the Police force. they get guns and go on the streets and kill citizens. it is either they are begging for money or forcefully extorting it from you. you dare not complain. if they cannot find anything on you, they plant marijuana and arrest you for proper extortion. if all else fails.. they shoot you in frustration. we have all heard the news.. couples killed on their wedding day, bank officials shot after a robbery incident, convoy kills pedestrian, innocent secondary school boy killed for armed robbery (in his school uniform and bags) .. we have reached the lowest we can reach.. or have we?

Nigeria is not a safe place to live, your life can be cut short because government decided to give touts/retired cultists/criminal weapons.

Very sad, I couldn't believe it when I heard the unfortunate news. I have interviewed her and her daughter over the years while covering tennis for the paper I work for. You would never see another dedicated parent supporting her child to be a future star. They are always in one tournament or the other using their personal funds without much support from the govt.

Nigeria has not only lost a tennis player, Nigeria has also lost a budding tennis star. Angel McLeod is an unbelievable talent and you need to see the little girl play, she is the top ranked junior player at her level and the future looked bright for her. I don't see Angel returning to Nigeria after this. Very sad indeed. Who will run around for the poor girl now?

The Police force needs serious rebranding and mass retrenchment. I wonder who hires such stewpid people as PRO's and spokespersons. If that t.wat had an iota of common sense he would know that his statement was soooo wrong and the public will not buy such rubbish. He should be sacked ASAP! Such rubbish!!

This is pretty sad and it reminds of Dele Udo, a promising Nigerian athlete who was killed in cold blood, reportedly by some trigger happy policeman way back.

It is an accident waiting to happen when we leave the police force with touts and nitwits. The brainy ones among the police are very few right now, as a matter of urgency our govt needs to reposition d d force to attract great minds.

Nigerian Police killing our sports hopefuls and quenching our rising stars whilst giving sickening explanations since time immemorial . In 1979, Dele Udoh was a promising 400m athlete whom the world thought will win both the Olympic and World medals for Nigeria. He was based in THe States but made the greatest mistake of his life. He came home to Nigeria with wife and son to honor an athletic event and there, very close to the National Stadium, he was killed by the police at a check point. Not only that, the police displayed his body like that of a common criminal while they planted hemps in his car... The rest they say is history.

Please i beg you in the name of God, wherever and whenever you come across a Nigerian Police, RUN, RUN, RUN

Dead people don't talk. It is quite unfortunate that our policemen are not well trained. Even if they were trained, they forget what they were thought because of bribe they collect on the road.

You do not have to argue with a Nigerian black policeman with a black uniform carrying a black gun under the hot sun. Their brains are fried and they can shoot at will and tell the public it was accidental discharge.

I promise you that this case will be swept under the carpet if the dead girl does not have relations who are rich.

Something needs to be done to get rid of these snakes in our environment and this crowded city as a whole. Or at best contain their excesses by confining them to an out-zone location far removed from the reach of civilization. Snakes that will always fight back with venomous tongues with intent to kill and terrify. Snakes whom everyone will always want to run away from and whose deaths bring joy to the heart of those bereaved by them. Snakes who have mastered the act of slipping away unseen and unharmed after committing their evil deeds slithering and hissing as they go. Snakes who will only abandon their own when public outcry is at its peak, with glaring evidence and the snake in question boxed into a corner. Let us all arise and smite their heads to smitherings before the smite our heels in an attempt to slay us as they have done to this poor woman or in the very least cause us to stumble and fall into the kind of depravity their mindsets have fallen into, thus becoming hateful and venomous as they have ever and always been- SNAKES

You can imagine the kind of officers that the Nigerian police groom. Pure robbers who kill at will.

How can he allege that the woman was struggling to take the gun from her for Christ sake? Or are they trying to cover him up? If she was to be a man, the police will claim that the man wanted to take the gun from him hence he was killed.Now that the person involved is a woman, will they cover the story again to sooth their own?

We have seen cases whereby the a police officer will kill someone and their own will claim that the person was a robber hence he was killed.Several innocent souls has been wasted as a result of lies on them by those paid by the same public.
No Nigerian police officer will make heaven.

Nigeria police is pathetic. What an explanation, "that the woman and the man lived in the same area..., the woman tried to disarm the man and the weapon went off and hit the woman". I feel ashame for the Nigeria police unprofessionlism.

The woman must have said something disgusting to the policeman. It's allabout fairness and respect.
