lookandlaff:
I dont disagree with you, you can have sound decisions made quickly, I'm just saying don't sacrifice the quality of the decision making for speed. We need long term fixes, our problems won't be solved overnight. Just as some of the poor policies of past administrations are only being to be manifested in the country and hard to reverse, so also long lasting effective polities may take time to think through and put in place.

We should stop thinking short term about long term problems and start thinking longterm about the Nigeria of our children and less about today, that's how countries progress...long term planning.
GOD GAVE YOU BRAIN AND YOU ARE USING IT WELL.

Nigerians need to endure whatever difficulty at the moment. Nothing good comes easy.

At times some departments may not have someone in professorship level.
In that case, the Dean or HOD is the highest officer in the department, most case a PhD holder, in case of university.

This nominee Mohammed Bello is a brain .He has impressed me with his answers in particular his solution to the Herdsmen /Farmers crisis.

There is nothing like One Nigeria...seeing these senators and their relationships makes me know that anyone canvassing for a break-up is "Crazy".

Sure you are right about NNPC but the same Buhari appointed that person.

So what makes you think the minister of finance (to be) would be tele-guided by the PMB?

- What grade level? A doctorate degree holder with significant publications in journals and teaching experience of more than 15 years undecided
Let me educate you small:
Assistant Lecturer-CONUASS 2
Lecturer 1 - CONUASS 3
Lecturer 11 (Research fellow 11) -CONUASS 4
Senior Lecturer- CONUASS 5
Reader (Associate Professor)-CONUASS 6
Professor - CONUASS 7
Now, you must have phd to be associate professor and professor.

I shall explain as follows:
PMB instructs a GMD to improve NNPC on three grounds viz; (1) improve revenue (2) improve transparency (3) restructure
The GMD embarks on this mission independently and creates improvement across all systems in NNPC in a short time.
If you compare this analogy, the context in which I worry for the nominee is that he wont be independent minded and may not be sure of the expectations of his task of reforming the economy or finance or any sector in which he has been put to task.

Actually that's one of the smart things he said (in fairness to him he did say a few smart things, i just don't think he will make a good leader/mamager)

back to your statement, he identified a problem which is fundamental to the rot in our educational system and in fact our entire system. Only those who are not good enough to make Universities and polytechnics are admitted to teacher training colleges. Which means that the teachers who will teach those who will teach the entrants into our Universities and polytechnics for the next generation are themselves mediocre. This is part of the problem we are already seeing now. Ditto civil service and indeed all spheres of life, Only people who are not good enough to get a job in the private sector end up in the civil service, the civil service is the engine room of government and it ends up manned by quacks. Back in the day graduates from Oxford, Cambridge and Ivy league universities at home and around the world could be found in both the civil service and Universities. When I was in school, I had primary and secondary school teachers who were university graduates from the best universities.

If the people who are forming the base of your education are not fit for purpose (like the infamous teacher from Edo state) then your entire education is flawed and you end up with a degree not worth the paper it's printed on. This is why a lot of graduates today can't find jobs despite companies screeming out that they have vacancies and can't find qualified people.
I get your view, I've also been advocating for same, I just wasn't looking at him coming from that perspective, I've heard lots of professors saying Polytechnics can't be given a status of universities irrespective of whatever is put in place, ditto for CofEdu.

In Nigeria of today, you can not be a lecturer without being a Master's degree holder plus enrollment for a PhD undecided

The root cause of the argument is if a professor is the highest ranking officer in the university or not.
Re: Senate Conducts Last Lap Of Ministerial Screening - Live Update by IAMTHEHERO: 2:55pm On Oct 28, 2015
HOD or DEAN you mentioned earlier on are nothing but posts. If you are not a professor and you are occupying those posts, you are doing so on acting capacity.

So what's the solution to this problem? The brilliant students opting out of College of Education courses and education courses in our universities? How do you make them attractive to lure these brains?

True. That's why the nominees were carefully selected. Its a wonder we didn't see all this during the last administration.

mediocrity will kill us in this country.
From GEJ to PMB to the senators and even the ministers being screened.
We are overwhelmed by mediocrity.
I watch this screening and I am convinced that we are not serious for change.
Look at the silly questions Senators ask and listen the watery responses from these ministers.

Converting COEs to University of Education is a starting point.. this will encourage people with dreams of being a teacher to pursue the dream without having to feel inferior to their colleagues in Universities
