Ijebus are not Yorubas, the Yorubas offered Awo leadership of Yorubaland to attract Ijebu into the Yoruba fold. It seem to have worked, because of Awo,Ijebus who hitherto had no affinity for Yorubas, but instead saw themselves as a distinct entity, now identify with Yorubas to an extent.

[b] The Awujale of Ijebuland, Ogun State, Nigeria, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, ogbagba II who will tomorrow round-off the celebration of his 50 years on the throne.

Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona

In an interview with P.M.NEWS in his palace at Ijebu Ode, the monarch, when reminded of his claim in 1983 that the Ijebus are from Waddai in Sudan, said every tribe in the country migrated from somewhere.

Says Oba Adetona: “Let me tell you, there are ways of settlements, even before Oduduwa came to Ile-Ife, Ife was already in existence. All you just have to do is go to history books, you’ll see all these things there.”

Reminded that the statement is often used against the Ijebus with people regarding them as aliens, Awujale described such act as rubbish, saying “how can they use it against the Ijebus? Who is using it against them? What about others? Are they not from other areas before they settled here?”

Oba Adetona who marked his 76 birthday on 10 May, 2010 said no Nigerian has any right to use the source of migration against another as it is evident all over the world that everybody has his or her roots.

In his royal message, the Awujale advised traditional rulers to steer clear of partisan politics as it is obvious that their subjects can never belong to the same political party and a royal father must not seen to be taking sides.

He told P.M.NEWS that his memorable encounter with the first civilian governor of Ogun State, the late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, in 1983 occupies a chapter in his book that will be launched tomorrow at the grand finale of his coronation anniversary at the Gateway International stadium, Ijebu-Ode.

On the clash between him and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunabde Sijuade, Oba Adetona said: “Don’t forget, people try to say we have differences, no, not at all. I am the Awujale of Ijebuland, my instrument of office says so. Ooni is Ooni of Ile-Ife, the instrument of office given to him states so.

“All the claims he is making now are not correct, they are not tenable. The first time the Obas ever met in Yorubaland was in 1937. Before then, they never met, so I think the man is playing politics, trying to over price himself,” Awujale explained.

Asked if they’ve both met of recent, the paramount ruler exclaimed: “Where and for what!?”

He stressed that they were not competing for anything and he has no cause to go to Ile-Ife just as Ooni has no mission in Ijebuland.

I look at the fracture lines in Yoruba unity currently masked by Niger delta crude oil allocation, and I laugh when I see Yorubas running mad whenever they see Biafran related thread.

Yoruba unity is tied to Nigeria unity, at least at this moment, whether they want to admit this fact or not is inconsequential.

Look at the scenario that played out in Osun state when the allocation from crude oil was at all time low, the government nearly collapsed and the whole place became chaotic with economic hardship everywhere.

That's what will happen in Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, once Nigeria disintegrates and the proceeds from crude oil stop flowing.

Resources will become scarce and the fractures in Yoruba unity will be exposed as Lagos become the main source of revenue, the Ijebus in Lagos, the Aworis and the non Yoruba Eguns will start exerting their distinctiveness, from the rest of the Yorubas, just to keep Lagos to themselves.

The Ilaje will hold tight unto their little crude oil.

The Yorubas( Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo) will be left in a lurch.

And the worst is that it will all happen suddenly, they wouldn't have time to cushion the effect.

Yorubas should stop worrying about Biafra and work more on themselves.

I can see that the insanity that eating up the brains of nigeria "leaders" is affecting you also.

A sensible country does not need to have crude oil to be a first class country. They need only to have sensible and committed leaders.

That's the situation on ground. A sensible country does not need to have crude oil to be a first class country, I agree with you 100%, but does Nigeria leaders( political and traditional) think so?

NO.
So, until you export Nigerian leaders and import foreign ones, the dynamics I painted there remains the likely trajectory the Yoruba union will follow Post Nigerian disintegration.

1. Ijebus aren't larger than Ekiti or Oyo
2. What do you mean by gears of war?
3. Everyone knows that Owu were the first to settle at Ibadan
4. I don't think you are ijebu, calling ijebu a biblical tribe is completely out of what an ijebu man will ever say
5. The Awujale didn't cure Oduduwa's sight, he assisted his brother, Owa Obokun Ajibogun to get the sea water

and remember to add that Yoruba are not Ijebu.

Awo single handedly revive the historical name Oduduwa, when the Adelabu bloc choose Olofin, to rally the Yoruba nation for Zik.

It may have been different, but Zik blew it as Yoruba leader when he said God has destined the Igbo's to lead the black race from slavery.

Even if that is his vision, he should have shared his thought in Igbo. At least he was a national leader and that supercede sectarianism.

When Awo heard that, he establish Egbe Omo oduduwa. If the Owelle has continued on the Herbert Macaulay vision, things would have been different.

Awo invoked Oduduwa to rally the Yoruba together cause he can't trust Zik to take Yoruba to the promised land.

Brotherly, this is not completely correct. Zik's statement about God choosing the Igbo had nothing to do with Awolowo founding Egbe Omo Oduduwa. Egbe Omo Oduduwa was founded in London in 1945, and relaunched in Lagos in 1948. Zik made that 'the God of Africa has chosen the Igbo...' statement in 1949, while addressing the Ibo State Union. Notice the dates.

Ase. cheesy

In time, all the ethnicities in this country will work out a plan satisfactory to all its constituent groups. And if sovereignty for some parts of Nigeria be part of that plan, well, so be it.

Thats true, the very best way to deal with change is to embrace it or be part of the people who made a change.

Nigeria is bottled-up, no thanks to her crop of leaders from time.

If self-determination becomes more and more stronger than the union, 'kaboom!' is just a matter of time.

We can only hope things get better or change will suddenly dawn on us. I don't toy with the ferrocious force of freedom.

Ammagedon is a thing of the future.

Peace.
