At last a Governor with a brain!

Nigeria is a secular state, not a christian/ muslim country. Its high time we start emphasizing this

If they must pray, let them recite the 2nd stanza of the national anthem

But he's right. You christians and Muslims think you're the only ones in this country. There are those of us who resent your overbearing attitude. The Nigerian state is secular and must remain so for it to survive
I said it again he's a devil
Are you among them?

Re: Ayade Orders Suspension Of Prayers In Schools by Ijaya123: 7:26am On Oct 30, 2015
This is so disappointing. What exactly was he thinking? This directive is condemnable and should be rejected. How does that improve governance in the state?

Nigeria has the highest number of churches and mosques in Africa if not the whole world but yet we commit the highest atrocities.
Re: Ayade Orders Suspension Of Prayers In Schools by blackpanda: 7:28am On Oct 30, 2015
Acidosis:
Mr Ayade is a stu.pid man, he has no reason or power whatsoever to stop prayers in PRIVATE schools.

This kind of guts motivates me to break rules. If I have the cash, I would go to Calabar, establish a Private school, hold morning and afternoon prayers and NOTHING will happen.

Trying to mimic the WEST out of stupi.dity. Who misinformed AYADE the local wannabe governor that students don't pray in Canada, UK, India, South Africa, Germany, Italy, China, just to mention a few?

Why are we so stupi.d in this part of the world?

The man should be wise enough to know the NATIONAL ANTHEM is a prayer, a typical form of prayer

"...Oh God of creation : Direct our noble cause: Guide our leaders right: Help our youth the truth to know: In love and honesty..."
For someone advocating prayers to the almighty, your outbursts of hate and insult just goes to show the hypocrisy in the nigerian system.

SUPER bushdoc, here to save the world again from all sorts of diseases, fight the evil, etc, etc, etc...

Right.....the news report from the reputable Daily Trust says....

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has given a directive that henceforth no public or private primary and secondary school in the state should hold morning or afternoon prayers.

Cue horror and shock.....wow...how can he do that.....hasn't he forgotten Nigeria is a Christian country...oops smiley

But if you go down the article.....

The directive which was sent to all zonal heads in the state said, “the ministry hereby directs all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state to suspend all assemblies (morning and afternoon) till further notice.

Er....it says nothing about prayer, or prayers. It says assemblies.

ASSEMBLIES.

If anyone of you went to primary or secondary school in Nigeria (unlike some here who schooled in France).....assemblies in the Nigerian schooling context means.....

a gathering of pupils , where announcements, directives etc are given out to the pupils. Usually held in the morning and afternoon of every school day, and may involve all or part of the school. A prayer may be said at the begining or end of the assembly, but it is a non-religious activity.

Get it, sports fans.

So,once again, the Nigerian Newspaper is caught encouraging clickbait...(Not again!...anyways the bills have to be paid, and all that.).

FOR THE BENEFIT OF DOUBTERS.....YOU CAN STILL PRAY IN CROSS RIVER STATE SCHOOLS....to Jesus, Allah, the Gods, the Flying sphagetti monster, the great Pumpkin, the great Spider, Atlantis, Justin Bieber, Cossy, D'banj, the great Poundo, etc etc......(Or you can still say religion is bunk, to quote the great Ford.....).

Assemblies....have been suspended (Looks like many principals would have to invest in a good notice board for announcements and things like that).

So can we all relax, relax relax....nothing to see here.....move along.

I support the governor fully, even tough I am a Christian. If Nigeria is a secular state, such secularity should be respect. Besides, with different sects masquerading as churches, it is important too protect the children from diabolic doctrine.

But can the Police give directive to the State Ministry of Education?

They can ask the USA for their experience...
If we can't help lead the pupils to God, shall they be led to the devil?

Separation of state and church.

Nigeria always forget that not everyone is.Christian/Muslim and forcing people to pray alongside other faiths is a violation of their rights and also a form of intolerance
I agree with you, general or group prayer organised outside a worship place or outside a gathering of people of the same faith is wrong and the school is not a worship place. That is how some hypocrites will come to Nairaland politics section and start evangelizing when the religious section is there.

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has given a directive that henceforth no public or private primary and secondary school in the state should hold morning or afternoon prayers.

The governor also directed that all teachers with effect from next year must be in suits during official hours. A letter signed by the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Education, Mrs Anne O. Odey, dated October 21, said the suspension of prayers will subsist till further notice.

The directive which was sent to all zonal heads in the state said, “the ministry hereby directs all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state to suspend all assemblies (morning and afternoon) till further notice.”

All school heads were directed to comply strictly or risk sanctions.

In a reaction, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) signed by Archbishop J. E. Ukpo and Apostle Iwara Oleh Obeten, state chairman and secretary respectively, said such directive was completely unacceptable. CAN said the directive will negatively affect the upbringing of children and urged the state government to immediately withdraw same.
Is this report trying to be mischievous or something?
Having Assembly is different from praying. Back then, we had prayers during Assembly. We also said the pledge and the anthem. We got information for PTA, school fees, school calendar and a whole lot of information during Assembly. Is he state government stopping Assemblies or an Item in Assemblies?

I would love to know the reason why such an extreme measure is being used before I make another comment for or against.

BUT THE SAME MORALLY BANKRUPT AND CORRUPT CALABAR STATE GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF STATE FUNDS ON USELESS ANNUAL CALABAR CARNIVAL OF NU-DITY AND PORNOGRAPHY THAT HAS NOT ADDED ANYTHING TO THE GDP OF THE STATE.
CALABAR CARNIVAL IS AN ANNUAL ASSEMBLY OF PROSTITUTES AND THEIR PIMPS WHO END UP LATER FOR NIGHT OR-GIES AT THE GOVERNMENT GUEST HOUSES AND HOTELS IN CALABAR.

What is the reason given by the GOV to stop prayers in schools? Hw does He plan to stop the occultism, gangsterism and witchcraft manipulations going on in the state even under his nose? Let him not invoke the wrath of God on his state by allowing satanism to flourish unhindered in his state. Let him not think he can do without the daily prayers of this children in the state, it will be his waterloo. Such a directive is satanic.
