Good decision to ban all sorts of prayers in public and private schools. They are highly unnecessary and at best are mere distractions. Anybody that feels prayer is important should pray at home before coming to school.

On the other hand, am not in support of the decision that all teachers must be in suit during office hours. We should be promoting our cultural attire and not foreign ones. Cross river is the headquarters of culture and tourism in Nigeria and teachers and public servants there should be encouraged to put on attires that reflect the culture of the people.

Teachers need increase in salary not suits, the classrooms arent air conditioned like the govs office, the man should be realistic this is not uk or alaska.

To what end?

And why force the private schools?

Madness!

Actually CRS and IRS shouldn't be taught in schools, unless it is a religious school.

The statement said: “Sequel to the letter from the Ministry of Education with reference No MOE/S132/VOL 1, by the Permanent Sectary of the Ministry of Education dated October 21, directing public and private primary/secondary schools across the state to suspend all assemblies (morning and afternoon) till further notice, the Christian Association of Nigeria , Cross River State chapter, hereby, says that such directive is totally unacceptable. This directive will negatively affect the moral upbringing of our children who are future leaders of this country.”

Mrs Anne Odey, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education in the state, had last week, written a letter to all schools across the state, both primary and secondary, ordering the suspension of morning and afternoon devotions.

When contacted, Mrs Odey said the directive came from the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Henry Fadairo, in view of prevailing security concerns in the country, adding that it was not the state government that was trying to stop the age long practice established by missionaries who established most of the schools in the state.

The morning assembly is not just all about prayers? There are Moral lessons that student learn from the teachers, prefects and sometimes the principal. Seems Umana is high on calabar weed

There's more religion in Nigeria than most countries, it has not solved a single problem.

Umana is not the governor of CRS, he's never contested elections in CRS because he's from AKS where he lost the election.

Prayer should not be forced upon children, teach them how to think rationally - that is more important than forcing them to accept superstition.
