You brilliant lads have created Africa's largest military discussion thread and you just have to keep it going. But please let's try to add more maturity to it. Let's try to avoid writing about possible battle scenarios between African states, let's try to avoid racist remarks and attacks on people's history and culture. But please continue the personality attacks. Keep them Butthurt coming. |

agaugust:A-Darter is proudly SA made product. Denel manufacture it and having Brazil flag does not equate into making conclusions that it is made by Brazil. Gripen jets can be branded with SA flag and equally F7 Jets can be branded with Nigerian flag but will that mean both countries produced those fighters? The answer is a big NO. A gripen bearing SA flag and as such is made from South Africa according to Agaugust.

Grounded: Taiwan’s US-Made Attack Helicopter fleet The aircraft’s manufacturer Boeing has also dispatched a special task force to help identify the cause of the technical difficulties, which could be due to Taiwan’s “wet and high humidity climate, seasonal monsoon rains blowing salt- laden ocean water inland, or improper maintenance and handling by ground service crew,” according to the media report. Major General Huang Kuo-ming, commander of the Army Aviation Special Forces Command, stated that nine helicopters had to be grounded due to serious oxidation on metal components, which was discovered in the helicopters’ tail rotor gearboxes- made of a new aluminum- magnesium alloy. “We noticed rust corrosion developing in the tail rotor gearbox in March, and notified the US side of the problem at that time. They were quite concerned, and have advised our side to apply several remedial measures to counteract the corrosion,” Huang said at a news briefing this week. However, the recommended anti-rust measures were unsuccessful and the Taiwanese military began a comprehensive safety check of every single helicopter in September. “The procedure is still ongoing,” said Huang, adding that the safety checks should be completed by the end of November. Huang also stated that the current technical problems will neither interrupt the training schedule of pilots, nor delay the induction date of the attack helicopters. “We will formally commission the Apaches into service on schedule in early 2017,” he emphasized. In addition, to the nine helicopters grounded due to corrosion, twelve Apaches are also not operational due to missing spare parts, leaving only eight AH-64E Apache gunships operational. (One AH-64E was lost when it crashed into a three-story building during a training flight in bad weather conditions in April 2014.) The AH-64 Apache is one of the world’s most advanced multi-role combat helicopters. According to a The Diplomat analysis from December 2013: The Apache Guardian is armed with an M230 30mm chain gun, which can fire up to 625 high-explosive dual-purpose rounds per minute, and can be configured to carry AGM-114L “Hellfire” air-to- ground missiles (a total of 16 for anti-armor missions), AIM-9 “Sidewinder” air-to-air missiles, and Hydra 70 2.75-inch rockets. Among the many advantages of the AH-64E are its improved composite main rotor blades, which are 15cm longer than those used on older models, as well as a new tip design and General Electric T700- GE-701D engines, all of which give the aircraft improved aerodynamic performance. Boeing delivered a total of 30 attack helicopters to Taiwan between November 2013 and October 2014. Total acquisition costs were $2.53 billion, which, next to the helicopters, included 1,000 AGM-114L Hellfire missiles and 66 M299 Hellfire Longbow missile launchers. http://thediplomat.com/2015/10/grounded-taiwans-us-made-attack-helicopter-fleet-is-rusting-away/ |

Patchesagain:Give us citation to explain the two photos, what the equipment are and which company makes them. BTWN, the NAF stuff are made by air force men and not a manufacturing company, it's a prototype not final product, wanna see photo of what the first Rooivalk helicopter prototype looked like? Nobody makes a workshop prototype of a product under development and makes it look like an industrial commercial end product. Fool, it's not like Gulma drone that has reached final stage and market ready. NAF men are creating and building hi-tech equipment, SAAF men cannot do that, why is South Africa mentally and intellectually inferior to Nigeria? Why? . |

mzilakazi:We own you, we rule you... Nigerian Communications Commission has given a November 16 deadline for MTN Nigeria to pay a N1.04tn ($5.2bn) fine for failing to disconnect unregistered SIM cards. The penalty saw the company’s shares crash on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and raised questions about the renewal of its licence in Nigeria next year if the fine goes unpaid. http://punchng.com/2015/10/2298 |

iblawi:Why MTN didnt do it is irrelevant The fact is that Nigerian repeated nigerian conduct towards large multi-nationals sets a precedent that is scaring away foreign investors and companies. Hence why remain Africa's largest recipent of FDI - people know we can be trusted and that we conduct buisness in a cool and level headed manner. |

agaugust:Yesterday talks were held on the radio with SA commercial sabotage expert in which issues were raised concerning MTN's outrageous fine of $5.2 billion. It was, however noted that Nigeria is in a huge financial crisis owing to constant falling oil prices and hence will look up to any means to amount any cash even by illegitimate means. The following possibilities were raised by experts. 1. The fine was predetermined and outrageous, no where in the world have you seen such madness. 2. The nature of Nigeria's institutions of higher learning characterised by low quality education and consequently producing half-baked professionals as in the case of Nigerian professionals whom were hired by MTN Nigeria has effectively played a role. The action of deactivating even over 100 million subscribers could not have taken SA trained technicians more than five days to complete. This effectively proves that Nigeria's universities are of a low grade for producing half-baked professionals who could not render a simple task of deactivating unregistered sim cards on their mainstream network. 3. The element of bribery could have as well taken effect, since MTN had always been a target of Nigerias government. There is a high possibility that the CEO of MTN Nigeria being a Nigerian by birth could have been compromised in exchange of exorbitant amount of bribes to drag his feet in response to catching up with the deadline set up by the commission. What are avenues for MTN? 1.MTN should institute immediate forensic investigation with experts imported from SA and America to investigate the commission of white collar crimes and sabotage. 2. A total pull out at no cost. MTN has an option of shutting down their business in Nigeria and leave them with a burden of unemployment and shrinking GDP with nothing to pay. 3. South Africa and Indian relations have now been lifted with already some SA shops launching their business in India. MTN has an option of dumping Nigeria for India. THIS HOWEVER SERVES AS PRECEDENT FOR FOREIGN COMPANIES AND INVESTORS TO KEEP AWAY FROM NIGERIA AND LEAVE IT TO SINK IN A POOL OF UNEMPLOYMENT AND LOW FDI. |

mzilakazi:Was your country broke when our money was seized? We broke your law and you seized $15m Now you broke our law and we are to seize $5 billion. We warned you before that you will regret it but you wanted to show the world you were powerful. Now you are the 1 begging. |

Let me breakdown how mtn planned to cheat to you Boi. Over 5 million unregistered subscriber where to be de-activated. MTN's plan was to make their money and pay the usual $200 million fine after making more as they use to do. But NCC shocked them big time. As dull as they are they expect Nigeria to bill them that small. Imagine how many billion dollars you can make from over $5 million subscribers in a year. It's a Fraudulent act my dear. |

iblawi:Don't take it out on MTN using fraudulent schemes which will consequently render you starving for FDI. Take it out on SA government which has already taken the decision to return your money. The SA government wanted to take steps to ensure first that the arms which were bought were not meant for Boko Haram. Your action of imposing such outrageous sanction is dangerous and will amount to exodus of foreign investors in your country which will in turn run to us. You are slowly but surely pushing your status as the continent economic powerhouse back to its rightful owner. Your foreign investors will be in our mercy and we will gladly receive and welcome them with open arms. This way, foreign investors will continue to see SA as their only fair gateway to Africa. |
