Government need to act to arrest the situation before it becomes worse. At present nobody know the plan of the government neither is there any intervention action. May God Help Us
What exactly do these challenges want. At least the govt had repeatedly blamed PDP for them.

Assuming mtn leaves the Nigerian market as assume, what will happen? The naira has no hope of restoration. Militants are agitating, massob and ipob are pressurising, some yoruba elders are not comfortable and the worst of it all, the president came out telling the entire world that Nigeria is broke. Which policy maker and leader attempt making such statement? what are u telling the outside world and the numerous investors u keep pursuing?
Do u think any good investor will love to come into Nigeria with this kind of statement by the Nigerian leader?

We are in a deep mess!

I think we should reduce the anti-buhari rants on this thread as much as i hate to.
Nigeria earns relatively very little for her enormous population. The best president on earth can do very little given the resource.
We need to tackle something much deeper than corruption and a bad president.
Nigeria is just not earning enough to make a significant difference.
What are you talking about? when a team is falling, who do you blame? the coach or the players? lets call a spade a spade. Is Nigeria more populated than China, US or Indian etc. Population is not our problem. China is using their population to their advantage, so Nigeria should follow suit.

The president and his policy makers must be blame for the dwindling economy in Nigeria. We know its a global challenge but other countries are managing it and driving their economy forward.

Please note that Nigeria is undergoing economic recession.

Do not be deceived by any media cover-up.

APC and Buhary inability to quickly address the issue since May 29 by forming a formidable cabinet has compounded the challenges.

Rough days ahead.
There is still hope to arrest the situation. It's left to the government!

Mallams. They think managing modern economy is just about herding cattle, vandalising people's space and filling up their agbadas with stolen oyel money.

It is no longer a game of chance, rather it is more of strategy, relentless dedication and intelligent execution. It is neither for the faint hearted nor wayward usurpers.

He has spent almost six months doing nothing and didn't even appoint the various Government parastatals that would court investors , telling them of their long time goals and expectations and bringing in diplomatic ties that would see investors turning around.

Even the continuation of Jonathan's policy of placing high tariffs on luxurious foreign goods, materials and products has been discontinued which was targeted at creating a level playing field for local manufacturers and producers thereby creating jobs within the system and keep the liquid flow while threatening to overtake the sub Sahara African markets from the Chinese and the West or at least share in the largesse.
Instead he has embarked on a policy of strangulating the dollar to give the Naira a false sense of appreciation when it is already clear that the plunge of the naira was due to our over dependency on petroleum product as our major gross domestic product.
When you base your economic indexes on a single product while strangulating a stronger currency your market will bite the dust - Sometimes you keep wondering what his economic team is doing in Aso Rock unless Buhari in his usual paranoia have decided to limit their input and be running Nigeria as a sole administrator.
The future is bleak if we continue like this ,though this type of economy will favor traders and bankers who might commit a huge mortgage to the future but again the conditions that might be tied to it could be another bottleneck for a Nigerian family that is already on the edge due to loss of income or business stagnation.
Unfortunately, he has no Economic team at the moment. I pray he inaugurate his ministers on Monday. I am sick and tired

Oil depednendcy

Or rather resource dependency.

Since independence , the economic model for Nigeria has been.....export cash crops, minerals and oil and share the procceds.

But the really seriously prosperous economies are innovative economies.

From now on, PMB must be judged on what he does about these three things.....Education, Power and Mass Transit.

Start fixing these things....and we may yet be prosperous.

Leave those things alone, and play politics of share the money......and we will be forever backward.

And of course....we must face reality. ALL SUBSIDIES HAVE TO GO. We do not have the money for them, even if we get all the money stolen since 1960.

We must go through austerity to become prosperous.
undecided Did I hear u say All Subsidies Have To Go? No way, it must remain because when President Jonathan said it, d educated illiterate we have in dis country went on street to riot, went on strike, insulted d president and insisted dt it must stay, so why d sudden change? Nigeria never see anything yet, I dey laugh like Obj. Until we tell ourselves d truth, we remain in d same position. Subsidy must stay. I rest my case.

We have a new administration. Last time I check, the approach of this administration is different from last. No economic management team btw... Even CBN is struggling with its monetary policy.
Are you suggesting that the current government is not austere but spending big?

Exactly there can be no sustainable development in Nigeria except the country is restructured. I mean more power and responsibilities should go to the federating units.

President Buhari pls take note.
Companies probably are falsifying their statement of account so as to evade tax. They are probably using propaganda and stock manipulation to evade tax.

Which recession? After recovering 1,000,000 barrels of Crude Oil stolen by Jonathan's men on daily basis.

Unless someone convinces me that Katsina Cabals are now stealing the crude and eating fat at our expense.

If I remember, one former minister is begging to return $6,000,000,000 while OBJ and others have returned theirs according to dependable sources in Government.

With $150,000,000,000 waiting to be recovered from foreign banks, Nigeria can't be broke nor can it go into recession.

I trust the people's General
All the figures you mentioned added together is peanut. Cant even handle 10% our infrastructure needs.

Is it not a good thing that cooporate firms are now paying fines?

Why should we be angry that mtn is paying a fine or uba and firstbank are paying fines?

Can any of you critics please tell me what solutions you have

It is just the beginning , Nigerians will beg jonathan to come back , the money they said was stolen under jonathan is a toy to what northerners have stolen and will steal.

change can be from good to bad, so far it is called change.

But with good economic team and good policies,we will bounce back...

But must face the bitter truth: true federalism is the sure way out....
shake my hand...until we come to terms with the truth in this country we would suffer recession is such a bad way that Greece would be paradise compared to our situation...let all of us look beyond tribal sentiments and greed and embrace true federalism...that is the sole way we can bounce back and create numerous jobs for all...no more would many have to flock to lagos to look for jobs...right in your state jobs would be plentiful and in extension nigeria becomes productive...

California has a GDP of $2.3trillion with a small population of 38.8 million. Nigeria has an inflated GDP of $500billion with a population of 170 million.
The distance is just so wide. Even if Nigeria has the best president on earth, given the disparity in resource, there is no way Nigeria would have the same standard of living as california.
We can get there if we industrialise.

But no....Nigerians want to chop oil money. They don't want to work. Every Nigerian...especially Hausas and oil producers, and Yorubas and Igbos....and the other 330 tribes....

I don't want to gloat but all available studies show there would be recession in the spring of next year. It's unavoidable considering the inept govt we currently have.
How is this government inept? My area in Amuwo Odofin has never experience power supply the way we are enjoying it now for the past decade I have been here,so if this government has not being referencing efficiency in power sector I doubt we will be experiencing this positive power supply. However there may be issues with the economy for now which is a carry over of the ineptitudes of the last government but I can assure before this time next year our economy will be out of wood with pace and commitment of the VP Osinbajo and the president Buhari are displaying.

True federalism will force the states to work.
When states like nassarawa see how wealthy Rivers or bayelsa has become by controlling over 70% of her oil revenues, she would be forced to find mining investors for her bauxite, gold e.t.c. so that nassarawa can be as wealthy if not more wealthy.
Unfortunately , the leaders are just lazy. They are afraid of taking that step due to certain illogical uncertainties.
The greatest obstacle to true federalism implementation in Nigeria is backward ethnic politics.
